Why so much hate for the value resorts?

I agree with most...I see it as preference, not really hate.

For us it is a matter of the room size. We are a family of five, so we are limited. If I am going to pay the rate for ASM Suites, I might as well go for the deluxe. Plus, I just simply prefer deluxe.

My son stayed at ASM last year with his Beta group and LOVED it! My kids really do not care where we stay as long as we get to go.:flower3:

Restaurant choices...there is so much more to choose from at deluxe...we are NOT park commandos. We really enjoy relaxing at the resort...just my two cents!

I love the theming at the values and think the kids really enjoy it. My problem with them now is that they are always SO crowded and are the favorites for all of the school groups (i.e. football, cheerleading, bands, etc.) that that has ruined them.
Aside from that, if they got a better handle on the bus situation, I'd definitely stay at them again! :thumbsup2

I have stayed at CBR and POP. I enjoyed POP just as much as CBR. The food court was much better. The transportation was about the same. It didnt take long for a bus to come and took us straight to our destination. I dont think I would stay at a moderate again. I have to add that we were upgraded for free from a value to CBR on our first trip two years ago. We paid nothing only the price we were quoted for a value. I dont think I would pay out of my own pocket to upgrade to a moderate. POP was just as nice and the food court was much better. There was many kids in the morning running around but it was because it was a busy time of they year (early Dec). All in all, our trip next year we are planning on staying in a family suite at AOA.

I'm a terrible sleeper. I have issues sharing a king size bed with DH. There is no way we could share a double. Plus we spend a lot of time at the resort and we prefer the moderate or deluxe theming more than the values. They values always seem so busy when we visit and after a long day at the parks, I like a quieter spot.

Disney Value resorts are not like a Motel 6. These are clean, well kept resorts, not motels. I like Movies and Pop. We will eventually stay at Art of Animation, but probably in a family suite since our kids are older.

I fell in love with POFQ in September 2010, and can't imagine staying anywhere else at WDW. If finances weren't good, I could stay at a value because of the cost.

I think the values are a fun place to stay.

We've stayed at the ASsports, Poly, CR, BLT and AKV.

I like the level of service and much smaller crowds at the Deluxes. We drove to the CR, pulled up out front and a valet opened my door so quickly that all the junk on my lap fell onto the ground, LOL. When we drove up to ASsports, the valet area was so full the overwhelmed valets had trouble keeping track of folks. We waited a while for a valet and even when it looked like we were going to be next, we weren't. I found the valet parking crowds and traffic pattern confusing.

I entered the CR lobby and was immediately greeted by ....a greeter? She walked me to another....greeter? :lmao: That second "greeter" escorted me to the online check-in counter, which was not staffed at that second. My greeter immediately brought someone over from another area to help me. I felt like a celebrity.

When I entered ASsports lobby, there were people everywhere. I stood in the serpentined line, waiting for my turn to check in. There were no greeters, no one called me by name but they were very friendly and helpful at the check-in counter.

The food court at ASsports was nuts. There were just too many people and we gave up. We went back to our room and called for a pizza. It took about 20 minutes to get through to anyone to even order a pizza.

The room size is also a big negative against the values. At ASsports, once we got our pizza, we put it on the small table. I'm not lying when I say, just opening that pizza box made the room feel smaller. It was also odd to be able to open the door to the room while lying on the bed.

I found the beds at ASsports extremely uncomfortable compared with the Deluxes. My bed at sports was also very noisey.

However, I found the vibe at ASsports very exciting. Kids and young people were psyched and all over the place. The bus lines were long with young folks eager to get to the parks. There was a life and vibe at the sports that we don't feel at the Deluxes.

In the end, I pick the Deluxes but can easily see where people more patient than me would opt for the values.

I am one of those that said I would skip a trip before I would stay at a value again. I won't say I hate them. They are cute with the icons, etc. They just don't fit "our" vacation style. We like coming back to the resort midday or spending a full day at the resort and just relaxing and enjoying some down time (quiet time, if you will). We did not find that at the value the one and only time we stayed at it--way too crowded, noisy and busy. I would never put the values in a class of being beneath me; they just don't fit the style of vacation we choose to have.

Me too. I think they are loud and gaudy, have rooms that are way too small - and the icons are over the top - for me personally. We stayed at ASMo once and couldn't wait to get out of there after one night.
My feelings are toward the value resorts - not the people who stay there. Sometimes it seems as though folks take it personally, as if it's their own home being insulted. I love the Polynesian, some folks don't - I'd never take it personally. To each their own :thumbsup2

I would not say that I "hate" values or that I would never stay again.

However, I would NEVER pay rack rate to stay there unless I was getting fd.

Our experience were

1. Way too loud all night long.
2. Beds very uncomfortable.
3. Really miss having a pool slide.
4. Rooms really spread out and confusing to get to bus or food court.
5. Bad bus service.
6. Rooms small
7. High price for limited perks (during summer nights are over $125)
8. No fridge
9. No wifi

Basically I find staying off site with a car to be more enjoyable unless you really want the ddp if we can not stay at mod, deluxe or dvc.

We loved our stay at CBR and Old Key West

My family like many in America are living on one income and have for the past 2 years. We have saved to make a trip this year and feel blessed to be going at all. We have been able to go Deluxe in the past, but that is a luxury that we can no longer aford. We are fine with that. With the current direction that th economy has taken, I am feeling so blessed to be able to take my kids to Disney for Christmas! I would gladly stay at a value, just to be able to go! There are good and bad experiences to be had at all the resorts, and we had some issues when we stayed at the more costly resorts. At the end of the day......AT LEAST WE ARE IN DISNEY!:banana:I hope everyone enjoys their stays no matter if the y are value, moderat or deluxe.

I prefer to stay at ASMU when it's just my son and I, but we like a little more space when my husband and/or my other son come along.

I hope you have a fantastic trip.

:)

That pretty much somes it up.

Hate double beds. Crazy food courts, seem more loud than the other resorts.

If it's just me, I'll stay value sometimes but I'd prefer a moderate or deluxe.

We stayed at value for many years before buying DVC. We often still stay there on our arrival night to save points. The only thing I dislike about the values are the teenage groups. It seems that there is alway some type of loud obnoxious cheer, dance or other sports groups there. They tend to be very loud in the lobby, foodcourt and pool areas. I think now after DVC and staying deluxe for years it would be hard to spend a whole vacation at a value.

We stay at Deluxe Resorts and when reading about them online before we try a new one quite often there are threads speaking poorly of the deluxe resort. Recently there was a thread about how "horrible" the Beach Club was and how the family left and went to the Boardwalk after only a few hours at the Beach Club. The point is, there are always negative threads and comments about all the resorts, not just the Values.

I don't understand the beliefs that value resorts are "the projects" either.
Has someone actually said that? I'd love to see them in the real projects :rotfl:

That is a really interesting point.

I have done value and mod and really enjoyed them both :thumbsup2 I know the op said hate, and maybe that was a strong word but I think it is because people say things like "It is ugly, and kids play with dirty bricks and the food tastes like vomit, but to each their own" Like perhaps we are lowly heathens that enjoy this "squalor" and "filth" kwim? I think that people get defensive because it feels like an attack on the middle class. I don't take offense, I even *gasp* went off site, but I can see how people could take take offense.

I went to WDW for the first time 8 years ago. We've been many times since then. We've stayed DTD Hilton, CSR, Bay Lake Tower, the castle hilton brand hotel near Universal (can't remember which one!), and then Pop in January this year. The Pop trip was supposed to be DH and I only. When he had a work commitment come up, I took my then 3 year old with me to Pop. The rest of the family joined us for a weekend. The kids liked the look of Pop. We all needed more room. Even just me and a 3 year old felt it was a small space.

Next April/May, we are staying at the doubletree near universal for two nights and then AKV for over a week. We rented the points for AKV 1bedroom.

We chose Kidani 1 BR because we will have two bathrooms. I have a 4 year old boy and 13 year old girl. The extra bathroom was a nice benefit of our Atlantis (unexpected) suite upgrade this summer. Plus, I like having a quiet space for me to relax at the end of the day. The kids can unwind in their space. DH and I get our space.

I think the values are fine for people who don't mind the space limitations. I don't hate them. The space doesn't fit our vacation requirements. I can either rent a value suite, value connecting rooms, or rent DVC points for a little more and get LOTS more value for my money.

To each their own. Just glad Disney offers options :thumbsup2

We are a childless married couple who just celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary at Pop. This was our 5th stay there and we love, love, love, it. We have stayed at SSR, POR and POFQ and find POP to be our choice. Yes, the room size is smaller, but the rooms have always been clean and in wonderful repair. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is GREAT. We love the food court and we love the "loud" music played throughout the resort with appropriate music for each decade. We like to try new resorts but always return to our "home resort". Nothing beats sitting by the pool on a sunny Sunday morning having coffee and listening to Ricky Nelson, Herman's Hermits, Elvis, etc. while reading the Sunday Paper. Give it a try!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Okay so maybe "hate" was the wrong work. I guess my original statement should have been "why the lack of love for" the values?

Thanks for all the replies, I love reading everyone's opinion.:goodvibes
