Our second day had us awaken pretty early to get down to the Wilderness Lodge docks to head to Fort Wilderness Campground to take in a place that I never been to in all my visits down to the "World" that being Trail's End Restaurant.
As you can see it was an absolutely jaw dropping beautiful day out. I find there's nothing more relaxing at Disney than to hop on one of the boats around Bay Lake, and just let the wind go through your hair as you take in the sights. I don't know why, but I find it very calming.
I first heard about Trail's End from Josh of EasyWDW who dubbed it one of the best unknown lesser traveled spots in Disney to get a tasty meal at very affordable Disney prices. He wasn't kidding the breakfast buffet was only 18$ per person. It may not be the mammoth buffet the size of Boma, but what Trail's End has it does very very well. It has all the buffet classics, with a few comfort food twists on the menu as well.
One thing I really enjoyed on the buffet was that the sausages weren't those tiny skinny ones, but actually fully plump ones. I guess let's get the things that were kind of lackluster out of the way. The shredded hashbrowns were really bland compared to the other potato dish (More on that in a bit). Also the sausage gravy wasn't very peppery. I like to have that kick of pepper inside my sausage gravy, I guess Disney just plays itself and doesn't over-season their dishes to reach more people.
The really good? The pecan praline sauce they have on the buffet. It was meant to be used on their French toast bread pudding, but I decided to put it on top of the world famous Mickey waffle instead. They also had pulled pork Eggs Benedict. I remember having something similar to it a few years ago at The Whispering Canyon Cafe, and this was just as good. I did though go back at one time just to get some of the pulled pork since it was that good.
The showstopper? The Smoked Beef Brisket Potato Hash. Josh on EasyWDW said this was the best thing on the entire buffet lineup, and I have to agree. Those cubes of beefy smoky goodness were amazing. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned cooked with onions and peppers as well. I could have filled up nearly an entire plate with this stuff. Plus I get extra beef brisket since my GF isn't fond of red meat so she kept sliding those delicious brisket cubes onto my plate.
Would we be back? Absolutely, and we ended up here again on our departure day for a little twist on what we experienced today. If you don't mind a buffet that doesn't have characters, and is a little bit out of the way, but not really, Trail's End is a place that you really should stop in and give a shot.
