What did you do today to save money?

well, just the standard no eating out.

DS is in a basketball tournament this weekend and I brought the family home between games to eat chili dogs instead of running to Applebee's or something like we usually would do.

We are approaching the end of the month though and our food budget looks awesome! I think we're going to be about $200 under budget for the month! With two teen boys to feed, that is no small task!!!!!!!!!

Heated up a cup of coffee leftover from this morning rather than making a new pot. Blech!!! But saved $$!!

There's only so far I will go to save a buck! My coffee is sacred! I buy the Costco Kirkland Starbucks. About $9 for 2 pounds, and I do NOT reuse the grounds or mix old grounds with new. My coffee's my coffee and that's all there is to that!

ohiominnie-We are frozen pepperoni pickers here, too. I thought I was the only one who did something like that. I will only eat one piece, so I slide the pepperoni slices around until the pizza sorta resembles a PacMan, and it works just fine. The guys get the extra meat, and I get the slice of cheese. They think I'm goofy.

Day 14 of the IPCEO!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE I'VE GONE TWO WEEKS WITHOUT EATING OUT!!!!

I let DS borrow $60 last Sunday, and it's still in my wallet in the same three $20 bills he gave me back on Monday.I got kerfuffled yesterday and forgot to make the dough for pizza last night, so we had taco's instead. In fact I forgot to eat yesterday until dinner time. (It's deadline weekend for some articles I've got due, and as usual I've procrastinated until the end...) SO my food expenditures for the day were next to nothing!

Today I'm going to fill out some paperwork I need to send in to get almost $1500 of reimbursable medical expenses back from my health insurance. That will go towards the pay off the car fund.

And I'm going to buy the Sunday paper for the first time in years and cut the coupons. Then I'm going to subscribe to it to get it for half price every week.

This afternoon I'm going to send some e-mails to publicists to request advance copies of a bunch of CD's that are coming out in the next few months as well as get on the guest list for a bunch of upcoming shows--all FREE!

I've still got an extra free ticket to the sold-out Red Hot Chili Peppers show Tuesday night, I'm thinking about selling it, it's worth $57 face value. Not sure how easy it will be to sell a single ticket though. Maybe one of the scalpers outside will give me $30 for it. :confused3 Or maybe I"ll bestow a random act of kindness. That's what I usually do with extra free tickets, I give them to someone outside the venue who looks normal and needs a ticket. I ask them to make a donation to the local food bank in return.

Tomorrow night DS works the afternoon/evening shift, so I'll make my once a month trip over to the magazines office after my day gig and get my mail, that should bring in 30 or so free CD's, and of those historically three will be good/keepers. :thumbsup2 I only like to make the trip after my day job because it's so out of the way from my house, and at least if I go from work I'm about 30% there.

My company provides free Starbucks at work M-F, so I usually splurge on coffee at home on the weekends. But last night I was really just lazy -- and it was so awful I won't be doing that again. Thanks for the tip about Costco Starbucks... I think Sams Club has it, too, or I sometimes get it at Target cheaper than the grocery store. Aldi has a brand of "gourmet" coffee that I've been buying that is actually pretty tasty and might be worth a try.

I went to Target yesterday for underwear for DD.... and walked out spending under $20 for JUST underwear...nothing extra! That is a huge feat for me!

We also tried out a FREE My Gym class for my DD (she needs help in the socialization area and gross motor skills) and I did not sign her up on the spot, as we have another class to try in a week. I was considering signing her up for both, but then I regained impulse control and decided to wait to see which class was a better "fit" for her.

My DH went out and bought pipe insulation last night, using a GC from Home Depot. Over the last 2 years, he has been working on insulating our drafty old house, and it has made a dent in our ridiculous heating bills. (And our heat is on 67 all the time, and 62 at night with dual zone programmable thermostats). So, he says his hobby is insulation. But it does save $$!!

I lined up more books to list on ebay, as I was just hit with a $450 bill for a specialist for my DD, and the Dr was not in my network. I pay $500/month for the worst insurance, sigh. Paid cash though, no cc. So, hopefully the books will pay the tab.

Wanted to go out to eat yesterday after Target (there was an Applebee's across the street) but went home and ate lunch there instead. Today I am cooking up a big beef stew and will freeze half, and I will be making a pot of Italian Wedding Soup too. I start Grad school next week (my last semester, YEAH!) so the more I can do in advance the better.

Oh, and thanks to all those who explained about the CVS ECBs. I am now going to start using them!

In the mail (well not today) was a flyer from our newspaper that if you switch to the monthly withdrawal from bank (rather than yearly) they promise the lowest price (and it did work out that way) and they would send you a 10.00 gift card -- there were about 6 choices.

I took the Menards because I need a new faucet and a new outdoor lampost so I kow it will get used for something I would be buying anyway.

Now I am off to CVS for the Stayfree and GoTabs. I would walk BUT it is 4 out --- BRRRRRRRRR.

I'm not sure if any of you shop at Price Chopper but they've been offering a program over the past couple months where everytime you spend $50, they give you 10 cents off PER GALLON at a Sunoco station. It's accumulative so today we are going to fill up our Explorer tank for 80 cents off PER GALLON using our Price Chopper Advantage card. (I believe the max is 80 cents off per gallon, up to 20 gallons which is why we are bringing the SUV vs. the Impala.)

We normally shop at Stop and Shop but I can't pass up the gas deal at Price Chopper. They've had some great sales lately, too!

It's addicting, huh? I've been having a lot of fun cooking more and trying new recipes.

However, I don't think I will EVER see the day where I forget to eat! :rotfl2:

I have been saving money on meals by not buying breakfast and lunch at work. Instead i've been preparing them at home the night before. i'm saving money, eating healthier' and I lost some weight. Also i 've slowed down about 5 MPH on my driving. I've saved some gas. In my home when a light bulb burns out I replace it with an energy efficent one. I work next to a thrift shop in an affleuient town. I've found some great deals there on clothes' furniture, and appliances. Its amazing how these things add up. Good luck.:yay:

Happy Sunday!!

There is a pork tenderloin sitting in the fridge for dinner. I have to admit I started thinking about ordering pizza instead (just being lazy).

Resisted temptation - got off my duff and fixed up the tenderloin to put in the oven. Garlic and Black pepper yummmmmmmm. with potatoes and onions.

Pizza will just have to wait for another time........SAVED THE MONEY!!!

Have a Magical Disney Day!!

I went to the mall yesterday to do mall walking...and only did mall walking!

Today I spent some time emailing companies asking them to stop sending me their catalogues. Not only with help me avoid the temptation to spend money, there will be less paper that I need to recycle and lessen the load for my postal carrier!

We need to take our annual trip to Houston to see dd's ear specialist. Its an overnight trip, which involves a hotel stay and eating.

I cashed in some Hilton Honors points and got a free night at a Homewood Inn. They have a complete kitchen, and give a free breakfast and happy hour munchies, which can make a light dinner. I'll pack snacks and water for munchies on the road and something to cook for dinner that night and something for lunch coming back home. The hotel itself has free parking and free local phone calls. So the trip total should be just the price of gas, about $50. Better than the $200-$300 I usually spend on hotel, valet parking, room service breakfast, dinner in restaurant, etc.

My husband spent most of the weekend earning extra money doing consulting work. I took the kids to two different parks for nature hikes and only spent a quarter on turtle food. It was a good weekend for us.

all the local gas stations raised their prices overnight from $2.09 to $2.19 and I was mad at myself for not wanting to stand out in the cold yesterday to fill the tank.

On the way home from preschool dropoffs I drove by the lone gas station that hadn't raised prices yet, there's was actually at $2.07. I pulled in for a quick fill-up. 90 minutes later when I drove back by, their price was up to $2.21.
