APRIL 11, 2021
THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM


We woke up to much better weather this morning,

little did I know it wouldn't last

I should preface this by telling y'all that I don't obsessively check the weather
while in WDW. I figure there's almost always a chance of rain
and we always carry our ponchos with us because of this.
Most of this time, the rain doesn't stop us,
except for one time when we got caught in a monsoon at EMM at MK
and we had plans after to ride FOP for the first time at AK
but my mom ended up not coming with us.
I guess if we had known what was in store for us this day,
she may have stayed at the resort again!

No matter. We were up early and took the walkway to DHS and were in line by 8:07 am,




and literally walking into MMRR by 8:17 am.




We were lucky enough to get the front seat and not have to sit behind plexiglass,
and we all loved it! Well, all except Allie who thought it was just okay.
She's more of a thrill ride kind of girl and on our second DHS rope drop,
she headed to RnRC instead.

Afterwards, we went straight to TSL and got in line for SDD.

That pic was at 8:39 and we were riding by 8:56.


Ava wasn't too sure about this one.
She said she liked it, but when we ask her if she wants to go on again, she'll say no!
I think we'll get her back on in August,
especially since we'll all be going on (well, except for Mike ).

Next was TSM, and honestly, these pictures with the glasses and the masks




Allie beat me by a long shot, but then, I'm not very good on this
even when I'm feeling great, so I never stood a chance!


By the time we got off TSM, it was just about time for our ROTR BG,
but Ava really wanted to go on Alien SS so they ended up staying in TSL
and Allie and I headed to SWGE. That's next!

STILL CALM, BUT NOT FOR LONG


Before heading out of TSL, I snuck my mask off for a quick pic...


We were boarding Rise by 9:39...




This was Allie's second time on it…the first was on opening day December 5, 2019,
and she loved it just as much as she remembered!

When we got off, she was dying to go on her favorite coaster,
so we texted my mom and Ava, who were still over in TSL and we headed to RnRC.
Notice how those bright, sunny skies from this morning were gone…dun, dun, dun…
things were starting to look ominous, but how long would the rain hold out??


The line crossed the street and went into the Fantasmic theater, but it moved quickly.


I waited with Allie upto the actual entrance and then I sat
and apparently downloaded our PP pics from the day before.

When she got off, it was time for some snacks and lunch
and to meet back up with my mom and Ava.

And of course, by then Mother Nature had decided we had had enough fun,
so it was time for her to make an appearance!

I have a sneaking suspicion, I'm going to have a similar reaction to this ride.
Still... I remain hopeful.

RAINY AND FROZEN



Allie had set her mind on getting a Jack Jack Num Num cookie
so we went off in search of it.
On the way, I spotted the pretzel truck on the corner
and spontaneously decided to try one, sans cheese sauce, of course.

I've never been a huge pretzel fan,
but this tasted glorious and I ate almost half.

Allie was very happy with her num num


But then Ava was hungry so we mobile ordered from Rosie's
and headed over there just as it was starting to sprinkle.
We were lucky enough to find a table with an umbrella to sit under while she ate.
I'm not sure why, but she was a little cranky…maybe hangry?
Maybe her nuggies will cheer her up


We decided to wait out the rain under our umbrella,
but since the rain was coming sideways we were still getting soaked!

A very nice family saw our dilemma and invited us to sit under the awning
at their table with them.
We happily took them up on the offer as every table was occupied by then!
Ava's mood was matching the day...


We sat there for almost an hour and then seeing that the rain wasn't going to end anytime soon, we decided to make a run for it to the Frozen show.

Of course, by the time we got there, we were like drowned rats,
and the show was having technical difficulties and was delayed.
We were under the awning and figured that at least we were dry
so we would stick it out.


The delay only lasted about 20 minutes and they started letting us into the theater.
Ahhhh…it felt so good to be inside!


Even Ava was in better spirits!

I got very emotional at the end of this and started crying.
Just watching Ava watching Elsa got me all mushy,
and I was kind of sad for her that she couldn't meet her up close
because I know she would LOVE that.
So while I am not a huge character meet & greet person,
I really hope they come back soon for the kids

We all felt much better having dried off a bit.
We were hoping the rain had lightened up by the time we made our way out.

No such luck

Honestly, at this point, we were ALL getting a little cranky
and weren't sure what we wanted to do.
Not only was the rain just nonstop,
it was NOT a nice, warm summery kind of rain and we were all freezing.
We probably would have left but we had an ADR later for Mama Melrose
that Allie was REALLY looking forward to.
We did our best to pass the time while also trying to get indoors
and stay somewhat dry which was next to impossible.

More rainy day "fun" up next!

Congratulations to her! And that's a bummer, sorry. Pardon my ignorance, but why isn't Canada where we are yet?

Our vaccine rollout was slower as we don't have the capacity to manufacture vaccines here. However we are well on track to surpass the US vaccine rates. As of today the US at 63% of 12+ with one dose and 53% of 12 + with two doses. Canada is now at 76 % of 12 + with one dose and 27% of 12+ with two doses. Second doses are being accelerated at a rapid pace now. I just moved the boys up from mid September to next week this morning. We are on track to having 75-80% of the country fully vaccinated by the end of July which is amazing.

Our vaccine rollout wasn't as fast as yours, plus we experienced another wave at the same time. Things are looking much better now with numbers down across the country. I suspect that we'll be opening up, but at a much more controlled/slower pace than you did, however.

Slow and steady wins the race, right???

You guys were moving along nicely in HS! Well, until the rain On our trip earlier this month we had a really good morning there too with decent wait times other than Starbucks and got to ride what we wanted.

especially since we'll all be going on (well, except for Mike ).

I know he doesn't like thrill rides but not riding SDD cracks me up lol

We did our best to pass the time while also trying to get indoors
and stay somewhat dry which was next to impossible.

Ha! I think just before our trip they announced that we could take off our masks for a pic My mom is a hot mess in PP pics…it's like she's never had her picture taken and doesn't know where to look, how to stand, or what to do with her hands! This was actually the best one of a bunch they took!

I probably should pay a little more attention to it. Maybe I would have brought warmer clothes and shoes on our December 2019 trip if I had! I literally brought sandals and my feet were freezing the whole time!

Ummmm….IASW, HM, POTC, Soarin', LWTL…stuff like that. Up until recently, Soarin' was the most "thrilling" ride he'd go on, but he now LOVES ROTR! I made sure to NOT tell him about the small drop or he never would have gone on!
