Hello everyone! I have been lurking on the boards since my first solo trip April'08, but only registered recently. This will be a)the first post I've ever started on the Dis b)my first food report and c)when you all realize that I'm a big dork.

The Who, What, When, Where, Whyfore's:

I live in CA and go to Disneyland regularly, though not during the middle of the summer because it's just crazy. When my DH thinks of Disney he thinks: , where as I think: :hyper:. My Spouse goes to DL maybe 1 time for 5 of my day trips. And I mostly have to bribe him with a Monty Cristo, churros, Space Mountain, and Toy Story Mania.

The Trip: I was in Disney World Jan 22-29 and stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. Due to my Spouse's indifference to Disney and his fear of flying, this was to be my second solo trip to WDW. I planned this one because the one I had the previous May was tacked onto a business meeting in Orlando, so it was only 4 days. I had moved to CA in '99 and hadn't been back to WDW in all of that time so I felt like I needed to go back and do it right for a whole week and eat at some nice places.

My thoughts on food can be summed up thusly:
homerfood05.jpg

Here is the list of where I stuffed my face:

Raglan Road
Columbia Harbor House
Biergarten
Booze
Brown Derby
Chefs de France
Coffee Break
Flying Fish
Tusker House

A Tale of Two Snackies
Raglan Road
Brown Derby
World Showcase
Tutto Italia
Riverside Mill *new*
World Showcase pt 2
Tangerine Cafe w/ a side of angst
Final Thoughts

Completed on 7/30:goodvibes

I hope you enjoy!

Oh, and incase you are wondering, the title for my food report was inspired by one of our National Treasures; Spongebob. It all occured when I was at Tutto Italia and thought to myself, "It's as if all my waiter knows is fine dining and breathing".

reviews to follow!

My plane arrived in Orlando at 4:25PM and I took DME to Port Orleans Riverside. It was absolutely freezing out. I'm not kidding. I grew up in South Jersey, but I've lived in Southern California for 9 years so I am not used to seeing my breath anymore.

your frozen chariot awaits
dis006.jpg

I took a very chilly boat ride to DTD and made my way to Raglan Road for dinner. It was really cold, so there weren't alot of people about.

not pictured: me freezing my butt off

I scurried indoors and was greated with a warm blast from the heater. I didn't have an ADR but I was seated right away in the main room.

cozy?
DSCI0010.jpg

If you haven't dined here before; there are bars on both sides of the main room, a stage/alcove area for the band, and a raised platform in the center of the room where a traditional irish dancer comes out and performs every few songs.

good, but she's no Handsome Pete
DSCI0014.jpg

There is also a room off to the side. This place is huge! When I first got in there were no musicians out, but shortly after my drink arrived they started performing.

Speaking of my drink, I ordered the Celtic Martini:

DSCI0007.jpg

So pretty, so delicious, so... hmm empty? When did that happen? :confused3 Waiter!

I was also brought delicious soda bread with a guinness dipping sauce.

DSCI0008.jpg

I decided to get the Jus Chicken as my entree. It was cooked perfectly and came with mash, wee little carrots, and a mushroom sauce. It was wonderful.

DSCI0012.jpg

When it came time to browse the dessert menu one thing jumped right out at me: Triple Your Pleasure- white chocolate mousse, dark chocolate mousse, and a chocolate shake.

don't mind if I do
DSCI0023.jpg

It was good, but not as great as it could have been. The shake was the main disappointment. Not really chocolatey enough.

I thought this meal was top notch. Maybe it's because I'm 60% Irish and knew all the songs, I dunno, but I went back again later in the week!

Here's more pictures from my meal:

The band. Sorry it's so dark, but I didn't want to blind anyone. I still hadn't figured out my new camera...

... also I was 3 martinis in at this point.
DSCI0019.jpg

Getting jiggy with it:

So yes, the meal was awesome and I will be back on my next trip! It's a great evening meal, or you can even just grab a drink at the bar for a while if you have ADRs elsewhere.

Next post will be: lunch at Columbia Harbor House, hope to see you there!

A trip report after my own heart ... so many Simpsons' references. :thumbsup2

And you get bonus points for mentioning Handsome Pete, who is so obscure that we named our cat after him.

Very amusing ... not many food reports actually make me laugh. Thank you! :lmao:

EDITED TO ASK: Do you mind if I pimp your report on my community thread? I think my foodie pals would really enjoy this.

Please, pimp away! The more the merrier! Is your community thread in your link? I'll have to check it out. And thank you for the kind words. I'm kind of a dork, so I didn't know what the line would be here...

And you named your cat Handsome Pete? That is so awesome! Handsome Pete was almost my avatar, but at work I have the pic of Lisa drooling at her computer, so I thought I'd use it here too. Especially since she's drooling while writing a food review.

And in honor of your superiorly named cat, my almost avatar:

Nice job so far. I must admit the dancers at RR give me the heebie geebies. No facial expressions are weird!!! :rolleyes1

/funny funny funny references to the simpsons. I also think being a dork is a good thing. If everyone was cool, who would I talk to?? :rotfl2:

Keep 'em coming!

The link in my signature for Bendy & her friendies is where you will find me and my foodie friends hanging out talking about non-disney food porn and anything else that comes along. Pay us a visit if you're so inclined ... all are welcome. :goodvibes

And when it comes to dork ... my dear, you may be speaking with the Queen Dork of the Dining Boards. My prior food reviews are all Simpsons references and are heavy on Plankton and any other goofy thing I can think of to use. I don't have the links up right now because I had to make space for the awesome Homer eating Epcot's golf ball logo for the F&W Festival ... gotta have priorities after all ... but your style reminds me a lot of mine.

If we had adopted two kitties we were going to name them Worker and Parasite in honor of the West German Itchy & Scratchy, but only one handsome cat was looking for a home when we were adopting and Handsome Pete is the most awesome little one-shot character!

I love the picture of the real Pete! :rotfl2:

And the Lisa avatar is great, too! We wrote a food review from 2007 titled The Food was Not Undelicious! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh, are you the Plankton person? I think I remember reading an old trip review w/ Plankton before I joined. Very cool!

Maybe dork is the new international language, like Esperanto but for weirdos?

Hi! Thanks for the nice comments.:cloud9: And yeah, being a dork is a good thing. At least my Mom thinks I'm cool!

Brenda didn't have to pimp you on her thread in order for me to find you. ;)

But I must say, you seem like her little sister, for sure. I mean, next thing you know, you'll have a plush Plankton to take pictures of while you're on your trips, too... :scratchin: When I saw the Simpsons and Spongebob stuff, I knew Brenda would love your report. I saw your Spongebob food and wine signature pic on another thread and hoped you had a review up your sleeve!

Did you know you can eat at the bar? You're not too far away from the booze, and they will allow you to stuff your face there without a reservation. :thumbsup2 It's a good choice for a solo diner.

I really hope you tried Ger's Bread and Butter Pudding at the Raglan Revisted Review.

I didn't get the Ger's Bread and Butter Pudding, I was so full that night that I got a lighter dessert. I'm totally getting it this upcoming trip though. I didn't sit at the bar because they were able to seat me in the main room. If they hadn't then I would have sat there. I did sit at the bar at Flying Fish though, right next to a 2 foot wall of flames.:scared1:

I saw all the signature pics in your link and that's why I made my Spongebob one! It was only natural that plankton would hold Spaceship Earth! I :lovestruc love:lovestruc your Skumps! one. I have been known to toast as such before. Sleeping Beauty is my favorite princess movie.

I'm not planning on using Plankton as a trip mascot, I don't think he'd be fun to travel with. I will possibly be taking either Wall-e or Chewbacca on my next one, as a stand in for my Spouse, as I've seen some others do. Wall-e will be easier to carry, but noone is likely to mess with a someone who's piglet sized if she's traveling with a wookie.

Yes, get the bread and butter pudding next time. :cloud9:
Ooh, I sat at the show kitchen counter the first time I ate there, but I didn't get a wall o' flames! Sounds awesome.

Catherine aka TDC Nala, made all of mine and the ones that Brenda and some other foodies have adopted. You won me over even more by mentioning that you love "Sleeping Beauty". So you can be my next official "Sister From Another Mister". :cool1: What can I say? We're all dorks, here.

"Noone is likely to mess with someone who is Piglet-sized if she's traveling with a Wookie" should be your tag! :rotfl2:

Hey, I found your link hanging out on a pretty raunchy street corner....;) (pitiful pimp reference)

Great review so far! Were you totally solo for the trip or just sans husband?

Can't wait to read more of your reviews...I gotta say tho that pic of the irish dancer looked like she was a woman possessed LOL!! I found her scary! The food tho...yummy!

Hey... The Friendies are here!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

Oh yeah Bendy... looks JUST like your cat... :rotfl2:

There's 2 (or 3 or so :rolleyes1) of the Plankton's so far... I am the proud (what can I call myself...) guardian??? no... Custodian...no... I KNOW!!!! Bail Bondsperson for the second little green furry butt... Planky... who has moved from Bendy's house to mine.... He is set to travel with me yet again in Bendy's ever present evil plan to have lots of little green maniacal beings take over the world. Until then, he's just taking over my credit card and ordering off of QVC... :sad2::sad2:
