Photo board Assignment: Scavenger Hunt, July – October 2013

Love the pics so far. I was going to get Circle of Life yesterday but opted against it. I came home to bird feathers all over my house from the cats proving what great hunters they are.

Seriously we have had so much rain here that even swim meets have been rained out. Not taking the cameras out in that. Hopefully I'll get out soon.

I'm doing a combination of pictures for Where I Live and the Disney Songbook Collections in this series of posts.

The city where I live prides itself on being a Major Events and Festival Town. And what I really love doing is getting out and about, enjoying the various events and taking pictures of the events.

February brought an addition to the calendar of events in Melbourne. The White Nights are a kind of all-night arts festival held in many cities in the summer. The original festival is the White Nights Festival held in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Paris was the first city outside of Russia to host a White Night in 2001 and there have been quite a few cities take it up as an event. It brings colour, movement and street performances to the city; running from twilight through to past dawn.

Melbourne took the opportunity to light up some of our heritage buildings around the place. With an estimated 1 million people attending the festival during the course of the night, I suspect this event is going to become a regular fixture to our events calendar.

This one is our main train station, Flinders Street Station. She's a well-loved and rather famous iconic building in my town.

There was a show along the Melbourne River. I'm gonna claim Colours of the Wind for this one.

Okay, it might be more appropriate to be Colours of Water Mist! But I'm claiming it anyway. ;)

If it's March in Melbourne, it must be the Moomba Festival. This festival is a 3.5 day event and this year, I only got out to see the night time fireworks.

The fireworks are held along the Yarra River.

Take a look at what is Just Around the Riverbend.

The Light In Winter Festival is an event that celebrates Winter Solstice. Held over the month of June, it culminates on Winter Solstice weekend with celebrations in Federation Square.

There is always a central display of something strange. This year's nexus was the Tree of Life. Look at the Glow it gave and how it illuminated the buildings around Fed Square. I almost called this one Circle of Life. Standing at over 13 meters tall, it nearly Touch The Sky (nearly, but not quite).

I took the opportunity to play with my boys and the light during this event. I think it could almost be Shadow Man.

July means fireworks at the Docklands. Don't ask my why; but for some reason the Melbourne City Council decided that it needed something to attract people to the Docklands precinct on cold winter nights.

The Docklands is located on the Western edge of the city.

Aside from the apartment blocks, there are restaurants and shops in the area. The Docklands is one of those urban renewal programs that hasn't quite clicked yet with the people of Melbourne. We've only been at it for 10 years.....

But it is very kind of the City Council to provide me with opportunities to practise firework shooting. And I will be back over the next few Fridays to try out a few different things. Last night's effort included shots like this.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

And when I was looking up songs to include in the list, I decided against Pink Elephants on Parade and also passed up on songs from Brother Bear. Afterall, running into those things seemed even more unlikely than seeing an Elephant Fly!

Yeah. On Reflection.....I should have gone with something from Brother Bear. Now, I can only think on what might have been and how I now have a (mocking) Laughing Place (at myself!).

Strange Things, folks. And guess what? That bear....it was walking and interacting with the crowd.....I Got No Strings.

Oh, how I wish!!!!!! A few weeks ago we rented a house on the ocean at Folly Beach, South Carolina with friends of ours, it was a wonderful place for a vacation! I loved the area, a 15 min. drive and you are in Charleston with all of the great restaurants that they have. I am still sorting through my pictures to see if anything else fits any categories.
