I'm doing a combination of pictures for
Where I Live and the
Disney Songbook Collections in this series of posts.
The city where I live prides itself on being a Major Events and Festival Town. And what I really love doing is getting out and about, enjoying the various events and taking pictures of the events.
February brought an addition to the calendar of events in Melbourne. The White Nights are a kind of all-night arts festival held in many cities in the summer. The original festival is the White Nights Festival held in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Paris was the first city outside of Russia to host a White Night in 2001 and there have been quite a few cities take it up as an event. It brings colour, movement and street performances to the city; running from twilight through to past dawn.
Melbourne took the opportunity to light up some of our heritage buildings around the place. With an estimated 1 million people attending the festival during the course of the night, I suspect this event is going to become a regular fixture to our events calendar.
This one is our main train station, Flinders Street Station. She's a well-loved and rather famous iconic building in my town.
There was a show along the Melbourne River. I'm gonna claim
Colours of the Wind for this one.
Okay, it might be more appropriate to be Colours of Water Mist! But I'm claiming it anyway.
If it's March in Melbourne, it must be the Moomba Festival. This festival is a 3.5 day event and this year, I only got out to see the night time fireworks.
The fireworks are held along the Yarra River.
Take a look at what is
Just Around the Riverbend.
