Giving Thanksgiving a Whirl (and a Hurl) in WDW *COMPLETE! 5/20*

Of all the signatures we've been to so far, Narcoossee's is sitting at the top of the list. And we did end up with a good plan for the morning; update coming soon!

Narcoossee's is the only restaurant we do every visit. I'm currently trying to decide if we go when we come down in August for Universal or not. I have never had a bad or even mediocre meal there.

Oh, do it! Last August we did a Universal-only trip but booked lunch at Kona just to get a "taste" of Disney.

We ended up doing a day at MK because we couldn't stay away lol, but if nothing else a nice signature meal, especially if you can time it to be there during Wishes, would give you a bit of Disney on your Universal trip.

To be fair we are probably going to do a day at Disney to get our Disney fix too. We really only want to see Harry Potter stuff at Universal and DH won't ride any of the coasters anyways, so we think it will be a 1 day ticket for that, which means we can do 1 day at Disney and also have one day for relaxing which will be nice.

I finally finished reading up to now, and OMG I cannot get over how they treated your room situation! I would have been just a livid as you were!!

As I was reading I realized that we were at Tattoria al Forno at the same time as well. Our ADR was for 6:00pm, so were were really there at the same time! Small world...

It's so much fun reading about a report that is taking place at the same time you are there!

We woke up somewhat early on Wednesday and Steve went down to the Boardwalk Bakery to grab breakfast for all of us. The boys and I requested crumb cake and Steve got a bagel. Normally we love crumb cake; this wasn't the best. They were huge though so we each only ate about half of ours. We let the boys decide what they wanted to do - park, swim, something else? It was looking like another really nice day and was supposed to be in the low '80's. Their mutual decision was

Fantasia Gardens mini-golf! We'd played over at WinterSummerland twice before but never here. Being at BW it was very convenient; all you have to do is walk to the front of the Beach Club and cross a small road. Since Our MK FP's didn't start till late afternoon, mini-golf it was!

On our way over we decided to hit up the one Epcot resort we hadn't visited yet for Christmas decorations, the Swan. The boys also found this outside the Community Hall

We managed to drag them away before too long and we finally made it to the Swan. I shouldn't have been surprised to see yet another display made of something sweet! This whole thing is made of chocolate (minus the snow and fence :thumbsup2)

If anyone is interested:

And they also had this cute gingerbread house

When we got to Fantasia Gardens it was fairly crowded. First we had to decide if we were doing the easy course which is called Fantasia Gardens, or the hard, Fantasia Fairways. and the boys picked Gardens. We paid and they told us we could start right after the folks who had paid before us got started. There were 2 or 3 families before them, so we had a little wait! We just chilled and looked around; it was getting warm and there wasn't really shade anywhere on the course.

After about 20 minutes the group in front of us moved on from the 1st hole and we were able to start. Each hole had a "book" like this to start off

A few holes were Tocatta and Fugue and then they changed to different classical arrangements from the Fantasia movie, like The Nutcracker Suite and Pastoral Symphony. A couple holes were on the plain side but most had a Fantasia theme to them also. This course is harder than WinterSummerland but from what I've read and could see, not nearly as difficult as Fantasia Fairways.

Here are a couple with designs you might recognize from the movie:

It was a little slow going since it was crowded and the party in front of us was large. There were benches here and there to sit but as I mentioned above, not really any shade and today was pretty hot! It did sprinkle on and off but never lasted more than 5 minutes and the sun stayed out. At one point while we were backed up waiting I looked over a concrete ledge and saw these cuties

This guy played a little tune whenever you hit the ball in

We found Ricky's favorite character on top of the 17th hole

After almost 2.5 hours we were finished. Someone was NOT happy that his brother beat him lol.

This course took a lot longer than WinterSummerland since it was a bit more difficult for Chris (and me......I'm not such a good mini-golfer :() but the boys both said they'd like to come back. Both times we were at WinterSummerland we did the winter side since the summer side was closed the 2nd time we went, so I'd like to go back there sometimes, too. I get a little >:( when we do things that take time away from the parks but sometimes the boys need a break, in which case I'm happy to give them the downtime.
The boys were hungry so they grabbed chips at the snack bar and we headed over to Epcot. It was prime lunchtime and we knew the QS places would be busy but didn't feel like going to ESPN again, so we figured we'd take our chances.

After grabbing a couple Grey Goose Slushes in France and the boys taking their time figuring out what they wanted to eat, I went into Les Halles to grab something for myself while Steve took the boys down to the American Pavilion to eat at Liberty Inn. I'd finished my slushie by now (they go down fast-n-easy people) and was really wishing I'd gotten another when I saw the line. It was almost out the door of the bakery, which gave me a good chance to browse some of the gift shop merchandise while I waited. By the time I got up to the counters I should have known what I wanted, but didn't. I'd had breakfast here a few times and some pastries but never lunch, and was so hungry I just wasn't sure what I was in the mood for. I rather haphazardly blurted out that I'd take the Roule Lard and Fromage, or Bacon and Cheese Roll. I also ordered the Frambiose dessert, which is like a raspberry mousse.

This was good; crunchy on the outside, nice and soft inside. The bacon taste was strong but not too much so; the cheese was there but kind of in the background. I think I would have preferred this for breakfast and I wish I'd chose something else for this meal, but I did enjoy it and I'd get it again.

This I was not a fan of, the Frambiose. It's basically a raspberry mousse. I love raspberry and I love mousse but this had a very strong, tart raspberry zing to it. It wasn't bad but not my thing and not what I was in the mood for. Again I ordered in haste and felt like trying something different for me, i.e. something without chocolate.

I carried my tray from France over to America which was difficult since it was windy, crowded, and I also had a soda. I made it without losing anything and found my men waiting for me at a table. I don't remember exactly what they all got and didn't take pictures because it was your basic stuff like burgers, although Steve may have gotten a salad. We'd eaten at Liberty Inn a couple years ago, their food is good if you're looking for that kind of fare.

I ate just about all of my roll but only 2 bites of my dessert and was still hungry when I was done, so I decided to try a snack that's been on my "must try" list for awhile. Once everyone finished we went to Canada so Steve and I could try this

CRONUT! I'd read much about this but always forget to try one. Loved it! Steve deemed it too greasy so I got it all to myself after his one bite :thumbsup2 Not sure where the kids were at this point but they didn't have any of it; I think they were off getting a snack somewhere else. Wherever they were they made it back to us, because they're both at school as I write this!

By now it was after 2 and we wanted to stop back at our room before heading to MK to pick up jackets as it was supposed to get chilly later at night and we planned on staying at the park for PM EMH. We walked back to our room and then out to the bus stop to head over to MK. I can't remember the last time all 4 of us had an unplanned part of a day. It was very nice and turned out well!

UP NEXT: MK AND BOG DINNER

Hi there! Yes, this was NOT our best stay at the BW or at any Disney resort, by far :sad2: and unfortunately put a big damper on the trip. It made me very nervous for our Jan. visit but luckily both resorts we stayed in restored our faith in Disney!

So funny we were at Trattoria the same time! I look forward to reading your review :) Too bad we didn't "know" each other then lol. I've managed to meet one Dis'er on another trip and one woman from my Jan. FB group but hope in the future to meet many more. Yes, it is fun reading about trips going on at the same time you're there. Minus our room issues we definitely enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to going back this Thanksgiving!

Oh fantastic! My DH and I are thinking about hitting up a couple of the mini golf courses while we are down in May! So excited to get a sneak peak. That cronut looks amazing. I can honestly say I have never heard of those being common up here in Canada but I'm also tucked away on an island haha!

The mini-golf is definitely fun! It's a nice change from the parks and it'll go faster being just the 2 of you ::yes::

The Cronut was GOOD, and they serve it warm. I'd never had one before although I know a few places around here do sell something similar. But it wouldn't taste as good as Disney :thumbsup2 It'd be good for a late breakfast also if you don't have an early lunch planned, I believe they begin serving them at 11!

My son is obsessed with mini golf...definitely something we're going to have to check out! I am now craving something sweet. That cronut and the Narcoosee's dessert are

Both courses are fun, WinterSummerland and Fantasia Gardens. WinterSummerland has more of the characters all over the courses though and is definitely easier - we were just talking last night about our Thanksgiving trip and even Ricky said he'd like to go back there over Fantasia Gardens :) But it's making me want to add a day just so we don't lose park time :rolleyes1

Every time I write about a dessert in this TR I start craving whatever it is! Have to get my ticker going so I know how long it is until I can enjoy them all again!

I can't believe that display at the Swan was made of chocolate!!!! Someone has some serious talent.

2.5 hours to play mini-golf???? The course looks fun, but think I"m too impatient for that kind of pace ; )

Your french bread looks delicious. Hoping to finally make it there on our next trip. And glad you loved the cronut. It's fried, buttery perfection

Believe me, the first time we played mini-golf down there I was NOT happy :sad2: But as the boys get older I have to give a little in order to get what I want.......

Your french bread looks delicious. Hoping to finally make it there on our next trip
I cannot believe you of all people haven't been there!
GET THERE!
And glad you loved the cronut. It's fried, buttery perfection
And I WILL be eating more :thumbsup2

Whew! Finally all caught up!

I am super sorry about the room(s) nightmare, but am glad to see it didn't slow you down too much. Personally, as someone who worked in customer service a long time, if I were Stacey I would have walked someone from housekeeping to your room myself to make sure it was done. No one should have to come back to the desk that many times.

However, your whole report has cemented that come my (and Magic Kingdom's!) 50th birthday, I am definitely going during Christmas decor season! But in the interim, my May trip is going to include some Grey Goose slushes and an inordinate amount of time in France to try all the goodies!

Hey! I finally updated my PTR from a real computer, so I found your TRs through your signature ;)

I know everyone else has said it, but I can't believe all the crap you had to deal with! I would've been just as mad as you, and I'm a cryer, so I would've cried!

Looking forward to the rest! I'm gonna pop over to your other TR now!

Ugh, thank you! In hindsight there are a couple things I wished I'd done/said differently, but she was such a.......not good CM I honestly don't know what would have gotten to her. But you're right, she should have taken more initiative. As hard as we tried to NOT let it ruin our days it really did have a negative impact on a couple of them. Just so happy mine and Steve's January trip had no resort issues!!

First, I want to say that MY 50th birthday is also the same year as MK's 50th birthday  I plan on going down at least once that year if not twice; I'd like to go down for my bday in Feb. and then in Oct. for the actual 50th. Maybe we'll be there at the same time! As far as being there when the Christmas décor is up, it's such a nice time to go down! A good portion of the décor is up before Thanksgiving; it's really the Epcot holiday storytellers (which I'll have later in my TR :)) and the Candlelight Processional that only start the day after. The week afterwards and the first week of Dec. are generally though of as good times to go also, as long as you don't get too close to Xmas!

Pencil in LOTS of Grey Goose slushes :drinking1

Hi there, and thanks for coming over! I can be a crier too lol, when I'm not so angry that I'm being nasty! I kind of went between the 2. I was really trying to keep it together for the kids so they didn't get upset or see how upset I was. I wouldn't wish that experience on anybody! The leaking/flooding can happen anywhere, that isn't what got us, it was just the treatment  But as I said earlier in the TR, out of all our trips this was the only one where we had something like this happen, and it didn't make mine and Steve's January trip and less enjoyable, and I'll wipe it from my mind when we go down again this Nov. :thumbsup2

I noticed that you had a couple of trippies in progress so I thought I would check them out :thumbsup2

I figured I would go in order and read this one first ::yes::

Loved the Dumbo bed! We had something similar at Poly but with Lilo and Stitch. Disney did a fantastic job designing them, so adorable! :goodvibes

Loved your Alice dress, so beautiful

Garden Grill...potato barrels??? Really? :rotfl2: That is quite the explanation for tater tots :lmao:

Yay for the Golden FP but BOOOOOOO on all of your room issues!!! I would have been LIVID!!!!! I don't like to complain, I try to suck it up as much as I can but THAT was not acceptable!!! :headache: I had to laugh when you told her that you were going to stick right by her side until your hubby texted you that they were there LOL! Great call :p I don't know what I would have done but it probably would have been worse than what you did :rolleyes1

Goofy looks about 4-months preggers  :rotfl:

That was kind of you to help that boy on ToT, Disney peeps are so awesome like that :thumbsup2

Looking forward to checking out your other trippie :hyper:

OK! So, we got back from Epcot and grabbed our sweatshirts, then went to catch the bus to MK. We had FP's for Peter Pan at 4:00 and then Jungle (Jingle) Cruise and 7DMT later on. Since we'd done the Jingle Cruise the other night, I changed that one to Splash Mtn. with no problem, the only time on the trip I was able to successfully change a FP or get an extra one we wanted. We got there just as the FoF parade was coming down Main St., and we were able to find a fairly decent spot and watch most of it. By then it was close enough to our PP FP time so we headed right there. I love the new queue which we walked through back in August, but with a FP you don't get to see all the cool interactive features the put in. Still, if it's miss those features or stand in a 70 minute line to experience them - I'll skip them!

Our next FP wasn't until 6:05 so we did a couple more rides, including Under the Sea

I'm posting this picture because the first time we rode it, when it opened in 2012, Ricky LOVED this part because........he liked that he could kind of see through the swirls and that Ariel was *ahem* naked "on her bottom". And he told Christopher who was 7 at the time and every time we've been on it since, which is like 25 times, they both point out that she's half naked here. Gotta love boys!
After our pornographic spin with Ariel we went on a ride none of us had been on in a couple years:

Actually it'd had been more than a couple years, because we hadn't been on it since they re-did the indoor queue.

Pretty cute, and even though we waited about 20 minutes the boys chose to watch the smaller kids playing in there rather than joining them. Before too long we were back in the outside area

So pretty lit up at night! I enjoy most of the older, "classic" rides in MK but always forget about this one, especially since neither of the boys ask to ride it. Chris did actually request it this time which I thought was cute, and I have to say it was fun to ride it again after all this time and I enjoyed the view you get when you're all the way up :)

My big boys

Dumbo selfie!

When we were done we happened to walk by the castle and realized Elsa was about to light it up. The last time we were down this time of year in 2012, the Fairy Godmother was still doing the show and, not being a Frozen fan at all, I knew I'd prefer her version (and I was right), so I had no interest in watching. But since we had nowhere to rush to and the castle looks beautiful lit up regardless of who does it, we decided to stop and watch. We stood in the new grassy area sort of in front of the Plaza. Not that close but the view was good enough for us

Oh boy, the picture didn't look that bad when it wasn't so big :scared1: Sorry about that. Most of you have seen the castle before so you know it looks better than this. If this happens to be the first time you're seeing a picture of it lit up - don't cancel your holiday trip! This is a result of bad photography!!!!

We used our Splash FP, only got a little wet but still came out pretty chilly as it was cooling off outside, rode a couple more rides with low waits and eventually it was time for our 8:05 dinner. We'd been looking forward to this one since our trip started as it's one of our favorites

I know Be Our Guest gets mixed reviews but to date we've had dinner there 6x and all have been wonderful meals with great service. We did lunch once and weren't impressed; Steve and I did breakfast there in January (before the latest price hike) and while it was good and got us on 7DMT a couple times before the RD crowd came along it wasn't an OMG experience. But dinner is quite delicious-just ask the dishes! Again sorry, had to say that ;)

If you're never been, after you check in at the front of the bridge you're given a pager and are able to wait anywhere on the bridge until they call your name. Then a CM will come and call your name, and you are allowed past the entrance where you'll wait for a host/hostess to greet you with Lumiere and walk you inside to your table. If you have a child/children the host/hostess will hand Lumiere to one of them to carry inside; not sure if they'll sometimes do this for a party of adults only but when Steve and I ate there by ourselves last March, they didn't offer either of us Lumiere to carry. I was a little disappointed but I managed to get over it and eat anyway!

We had to wait almost 25 minutes past our reservation time which seems to be more the norm with BOG than the exception unfortunately. But finally about 8:30 they called our name. Looking back I think Chris has carried Lumiere each time we've been here as a family. Might have to ask poor Ricky on our next trip if he wants a turn!

We were seated in the Ballroom this time which is my least favorite room of the three; the West Wing being my favorite. But, this was the first time we'd sat in the Ballroom with Christmas decorations up, and we were seated pretty close to the windows and the Christmas tree. With the "snow" falling outside the windows and the Christmas tree underneath, it actually was pretty cool

Our server came right over-as usual we had great service-and I'm sure the boys got soda. Steve got his Mich Ultra and I said hello to a dear friend

Yes, I DO know you can get this other places besides Disney, but I did NOT know that when I first started drinking it! I tried this on one of our trips in 2014 and loved it, but assumed I wouldn't be able to find it anywhere by me. I'm not a huge beer connoisseur, so imagine my surprise when one day in early 2015 when I mentioned it to a friend of mine from NJ she was like, "oh yeah, I love that! You can get it in WALMART!!" So I've gotten it there and supermarkets, but it still tastes better at BOG.

Ricky and I were both looking forward to ordering our favorite appetizers: the potato leek soup for me and the mussels for Ricky. If you happen to be keeping score, this was his 5th, and final, order of the trip!

Our first couple of times eating dinner here I ordered the French Onion soup, which is really good. But I'm a sucker for any kind of potato soup and eventually tried this - and I haven't gone back. It's very filling though.

Now for the mussels. BOG is where my former VERY picky eater first tried mussels back in 2012 and fell in love  He's gotten them on every visit here and eats them at home, has ordered them in restaurants at home and on other vacations but always says none hold a candle to these:

Mussels Provencal with Pernod, Tomatoes, Garlic, Onions and Herbs

Now as I said, prior to this trip these were the BEST mussels my then 12 year old had ever had. BUT, now that he'd tried them at no less than 4 other WDW eateries in the 4 days prior to this, would they still stay on top?

NOPE!

Restaurant Marrakesh STILL beat Be Our Guest! I was shocked given how much he loves these mussels. Chris thinks mussels are OK but does love soaking up the sauce from this particular dish with bread when Ricky's done. So at this point, having had all the mussels he was going to consume on this trip, the order of best to least best for Ricky goes like this:

1. Restaurant Marrakesh
2. Be Our Guest
3. Narcoossee's
4. Fulton's Crab House
5. Trattoria Al Forno
Do with that info. what you will.

Steve ordered a garden salad for an app which comes with a Champagne Vinaigrette, he liked it but I won't bore you with a picture. For our entrees Chris and I again went with our staple, the Grilled Strip Steak, served with Garlic-Herb butter and Pommes Frites

Ricky got the Pan-seared Chicken Breast, normally served with a white bean Cassoulet and Arugula Salad but he asked for fries instead of the Cassoulet

And finally, Steve ordered the Spice-rubbed Pork Chop with Wild Mushroom Bread Pudding, Seasonal Veggies and Pork Jus

So, as usual Chris and I loved our steak. Way back when they first opened Chris ordered the kids steak and it was BAD; very fatty and grisly. Since he's an eater we let him move up to the adult steak and that's what he's continued to order. Ours are always cooked perfectly and the garlic herb butter is awesome. The fries (pommes-frites, Excusez-moi!) are delicious, too. I saw in a dining report from Dec. that they apparently changed them to steak fries which greatly saddened me. Hoping they go back to the old fries by our Nov. trip!

Ricky enjoyed his chicken which normally has some kind of seasoning but he asked for it plain. And then used ketchup......hey, it's better than when he would only eat chicken nuggets, mac n cheese and pizza!

This was Steve's first time ordering the pork chop and he LOVED it and LOVED the mushroom bread pudding, which Chris let Steve have about 2 bites of. All in all another great dinner at BOG. Steve and I skipped this on our Jan. trip in favor of trying quite a few new TS places and while we had some wonderful meals we'll definitely be back this Nov.

We opted to skip dessert, planning to go to Sleepy Hollow for some huge ice cream sandwiches (Steve and the boys) and fried dough (me). Our 3rd FP was for 7DMT at 10:00. It was 10:15 but Steve wasn't into moving fast right then :confused3 YES, I said moving fast on 7DMT, so I rode twice with Ricky since Chris isn't a big fan. Next was HM and then we caught some of the 11:00 MSEP right by Hall of Presidents. I watch this any time I can catch a glimpse! It was now about 11:40 and I thought crowds would be smaller; they weren't terrible but not quite as low as I thought they'd be by that time. Regular park close was midnight with EMH until 2. I was hoping to make it at least until 1, but my stomach was feeling right. Yup, the night before Thanksgiving, in Disney, and my stomach wasn't feeling right. That's all I'm saying for now. Everyone else was pretty much done except for wanting a snack so we got their ice cream sandwiches, sat while they ate them, and headed back to the Boardwalk about 12:30.

We'd had a great day, especially for one that started out with the first half unplanned. Actually after an annoying Sunday and messed up Monday all due to the room/sewage/flooding issues, we'd had 2 really fun-dare I say almost perfect-days in a row!

Would we manage THREE??

UP NEXT: THANKSGIVING DAY IN WDW: YAY?? OR EEEWW??

I noticed that you had a couple of trippies in progress so I thought I would check them out :thumbsup2
:welcome: and Thank you for stopping over!!
Loved your Alice dress, so beautiful
And thank you again :) I got that at Hot Topic, I love all their Disney clothes and accessories! Sometimes I feel weird shopping in there because I'm usually the youngest customer by like 20-25 years lol, but then I think.......who cares?!

I know, I try to REALLY think before I complain - how bad is this? Does it WARRANT a complaint? And OMG this did! Reliving it while writing this TR got me all fired up again lol. Then the other day while talking with Steve about our trip this Nov. I had a terrible thought: what if Stacey's been transferred to whatever resort we end up staying at for THAT trip :scared1:

That was kind of you to help that boy on ToT, Disney peeps are so awesome like that :thumbsup2
It's true, isn't it? One place pretty much everyone has something in common: love of Disney. With an exception here and there it really does lead to friendly interactions and lots of helpfulness all around :goodvibes

We've only ever done Peter with a FP so I've never seen the queue and with those waits likely never will either.

Wow that is a long wait, but at least the food was worth it.

I can't tell from the label, what is this? And no matter what it is everything taste better in Disney.
