Food & Wine (2016) and Dining Throughout Disney World with Figment

Kringla Bakeri og Kafe, Epcot (Breakfast)
The Kringla is another great place for "breakfast"!
DSC_0112_zpsezyjkfup.jpg

Iced Coffee Mocha – Very sweet.
DSC_0121_zpsitwp1dg8.jpg

Troll Horn - Cloudberry Jam with Whipped Cream in a Crispy Pastry Sugar-Coated Shell. This is one of Figment’s long-time favorite items at the Kringla. The sugar-coated shell is yummy and the filling is light and airy.
DSC_0118_zpsp5rfwiqb.jpg

School Bread - Sweet Cardamom Bun filled with Vanilla Crème Custard and topped with Glazed and Toasted Coconut. This is another one of Figment's long-time favorite items. It seemed like it was bigger than it was two years ago!
DSC_0114_zps9a75eewm.jpg

Berry Cream Puff – Puff Pastry filled with Whipped Cream and Fresh Berries. A nice light dessert, with a good amount of fruit.
DSC_0116_zpsjdstk4ah.jpg

Viking Chocolate Mousse - Chocolate Mousse with Ganache. Chocolate!
DSC_0120_zpshvbwoj75.jpg

Ohana, Polynesian Resort (Dinner)
It's become one of Figment's family's traditions to have dinner at 'Ohana before MNSSHP. With the new, earlier opening time for dinner, it makes it even easier to have dinner and still get back to the MK before the party starts.
DSC_0274_zpsdntxjqp7.jpg

’Ohana Welcome Bread – Each meal at 'Ohana starts with the welcome bread. The soft loaf of bread is tasty, but with so much other good stuff coming, we didn't each all of the break.
DSC_0242_zpssczam0dr.jpg

Mixed Greens with a Lilikoi Dressing - The salad is good and goes nicely with the heavier options on the menu.
DSC_0246_zps384wzjvw.jpg

Honey Coriander Chicken Wings and Pork Dumplings Tossed in a Garlic-Ginger Dressing - The wings are sticky (messy to eat), but tasty. The pork dumplings had a nice balance between the amount of filling and the wrapper (not too doughy). Both are very yummy.
DSC_0251_zpswt3ayewg.jpg

DSC_0252_zpsqdetnfui.jpg

Noodles - Tossed in a teriyaki sauce with fresh and stir fried vegetables – The noodles were okay, but nothing really outstanding and kind of bland.
DSC_0247_zpspa1j7tne.jpg

Starters - The noodles, chicken wings, and dumplings are served together in one big dish!
DSC_0253_zpsimluwbgh.jpg

Sweet-n-Sour Chicken, Szechuan Sirloin Steak, and Spicy Grilled Peel-n-Eat Shrimp - Prepared over an Oak fire, and served with Peanut and Sweet-n-Sour Sauces. All of the meats were good, but the Shrimp was our favorite (they aren't spicy at all).

DSC_0266_zpsh0pjg5fd.jpg

DSC_0267_zpsgbwtdf9z.jpg

DSC_0269_zpsu4j9sef3.jpg

Ice Cream – Figment isn't a fan of bread puddings, so he asked if he could just have the ice cream. Our "cousin" (i.e., the server) said that was fine and brought out a huge bowl of vanilla ice cream!
DSC_0272_zps1gnyhlcd.jpg

Raglan Road, Disney Springs (Dinner)
Figment's last visit to Disney Springs on this trip was a chance to return to an old favorite: Raglan Road. It was still really busy (Friday night!) and there was a pretty good wait for a table (luckily we had a reservation). We were seated in the main room, off to the side. We had an okay view of the main stage, but had some difficulty seeing the stage in the center of the room.
DSC_0234_zpsiiwdxyzu.jpg

DSC_0235_zpshaw658qn.jpg

The Irish Show and Dancing - The Irish Dancing and bands are a fun part of the atmosphere at Raglan Road.
DSC_0240_zpsi6qau3le.jpg

DSC_0253_zpsysyumzvt.jpg

Irish Soda Bread – The meal starts with some Irish soda bread and oil for dipping. The bread is slightly sweet and god.
DSC_0248_zps5adw8kt8.jpg

Dalkey Duo - Battered cocktail sausages with Dalkey mustard dipping sauce. Yum! The sausages were very good and there were a lot of them.
DSC_0266_zpsdkrfzwyw.jpg

An Irish Egg - Guinness and Onion Sausage Crusted Egg, Pickled Cabbage, Saffron Aioli. The Irish Egg was very good.
DSC_0267_zpsqb30n7ey.jpg

DSC_0278_zpsicebiwro.jpg

Scallop Forest - Georges Bank scallops in a golden batter served with citrus lime dipping sauce and sweet chili jam. The scallops were tender inside and crispy on the outside. This is Figment's favorite appetizer at Raglan Road.
DSC_0272_zpsoj3vpuvd.jpg

Fish & Chips - Our famous beer battered fish & chips with fresh tartar sauce. It's brought to the table in a inverted cone and then poured on the plate. The fish & chips was very good. Of the three he tried on this trip, Raglan Road's was the best.
DSC_0279_zpsfsijiaws.jpg

Salmon of Knowledge - Baked Atlantic Salmon Filet Topped with Smoked Salmon, Leek and Mushroom Fondue Served with a Maple Glaze. It’ll Give You Brains to Burn. The salmon had excellent flavor.
DSC_0289_zpsgshfdkdt.jpg

It's Not Bleedin' Chowder! - That's What Master Chef said! It's the Freshest Cuts of Seafood and Potatoes in a White Wine Infused Cream Broth. But It's Not Chowder. Ok? The "not chowder" was very good, with lots of seafood and potatoes. The broth wasn't very heavy, but did have a slightly creaminess to it.
DSC_0298_zpsdrphsj3n.jpg

Cappuccino
DSC_0313_zpsaxrunqz6.jpg

Dunbrody Kiss – Chef Dundon’s Gift to America. Chocolate, add More Chocolate, Then Add Some More. This is Figment's favorite dessert in WDW! Chocolate! And more chocolate!

Via Napoli, Epcot (Lunch)
Figment's family tried to get a walk-up for dinner on out arrival night, but they weren't taking walk-ups (this was a Wednesday). Luckily, we had a reservation for lunch later in the trip.
DSC_0429_zpst2ew5jxo.jpg

Bread Service – Bread and olive oil are available upon request.
DSC_0405_zpsbguepxeh.jpg

Aqua Frescas - Blood Orange - Figment has always been curious about the aqua frescas, so this time he decided to try the blood orange one. It was...okay, but it really reminded him a watered down orange juice. So he's glad he tried it, but he wouldn't order it a second time.
DSC_0392_zpsipk5ypks.jpg

Calamari Fritti - Corn-crusted rings served with spicy tomato sauce. The calamari at VN is really good.
DSC_0400_zpsxnxqgrnl.jpg

Arancini - Fried risotto balls filled with mozzarella and meat ragu. This is Figment's favorite appetizer! The risotto balls are crisy on the outside, gooey on the inside. So good!
DSC_0396_zpskza42ixx.jpg

Linguini alla Scoglio -
Shrimp, clams, mussels, and squid tossed in marinara piccante. The linguini was okay, but there really wasn't anything unique or memorable about it.
DSC_0407_zps7y0m5705.jpg

Prosciutto e Melone Signature Pie - Fontina, mozzarella, prosciutto, and cantaloupe. This is Figment's favorite pizza at VN. The pizza is cooked and then the prosciutto and melon are added. The individual pizza is about 11" in diameter and big enough to share.
DSC_0412_zpslrgoneog.jpg

Cappuccino
DSC_0419_zpsu9ovqa1a.jpg

Coppa di Brutti Ma Buoni - Amarena cherry and vanilla gelato sundae. This is Figment's other favorite dessert; the ice cream is very rich and the amarena cherries are so good!
DSC_0422_zpskezpztvt.jpg

DSC_0424_zps3h2ghbmt.jpg

DSC_0427_zps0glr3owe.jpg

California Grill, Contemporary Resort (Dinner)
Figment likes to have a late dinner California Grill so he can watch the fireworks from the observation deck. The server asked we wanted to watch fireworks and when we said yes, he helped pace our meal.
DSC_0129_zpsxw1b2x4k.jpg

Bread Service – The meal starts with some rolls and butter.
DSC_0135_zpsbmqkmvcf.jpg

DSC_0137_zpsb2szea69.jpg

DSC_0136_zps9f9yb39c.jpg

Bloody Mary - Another Bloody Mary to try! This one was pretty good!
DSC_0137_zpsb2szea69.jpg

Handcrafted Charcuterie Selection - Figment likes to try charcuterie boards and this one was pretty good. The salame and rillettes were the most popular with Figment's family; the pate was the least popular. The charcuterie came with a very detailed information card, describing everything that was included.
  • Calabrese Style Salame (Spicy Dry Salame made with pork, sanglovese wine, and spices, paired with apple mostarda)
  • Pork Belly Rillettes (slow-braised pork belly shredded and whipped with duck fat. Served with spicy mayonnaise and tempura crunch. A great spread on toasted bread)
  • Venison Terrine (free-range New Zealand venson with veal sweetbreads and black summer truffles. Creamy truffled-mascarpone cheese to accompany)
  • Guanclale (pork jowl seasoned with Turbinado sugar and sea salt. Paired with pickled mustard seeds)
  • Duck Liver Pate (classic liver and onion pate whipped light and airy. Paired with Black Cyprus sea salt).
DSC_0141_zps4cgrqtjh.jpg

Spicy Kazan Roll - Crab, Shrimp, Scallops, Tuna, Fireball Sauce. We asked for the Spicy Kazan sauce to be put on the side. It does have quite a punch, but there were scallops mixed into the sauce. The roll itself was very good.
DSC_0149_zpsntxku0qu.jpg

Artisan Romaine - Roasted Garlic Dressing, Boquerones, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Brioche Croutons. The salad had some anchovies, which were surprising, but really added to the salad.
DSC_0158_zpsaynydlkd.jpg

Seafood Ramen - Lobster, Gulf Shrimp, Scallops, House-made Ramen, Crisp Vegetables, Fragrant Broth. The ramen had good flavor and lots seafood.
DSC_0172_zpskjescujd.jpg

Seared Hokkaido Scallops - Brentwood Corn, Romano Beans, Duck Confit, Artichokes, Verjus-Piquillo Emulsion. This dish was shared between two people and they split it back in the kitchen. The scallops were really good (four of them total) and the accompaniments were quite tasty (especially the duck).
DSC_0182_zpsr51ftxif.jpg

Cappuccino
DSC_0237_zps0kck3si6.jpg

Chocolate Pudding Cake - Luscious Chocolate Cake with Nutella Filling, Meringue Kisses, and Chantilly Cream. Very rich, but it was chocolate!
DSC_0239_zpskuco0fb6.jpg

Narcoossee’s, Grand Floridian (Dinner)
Narcoossee’s is Figment’s favorite restaurant in Walt Disney World. He opted to end the trip with dinner at Narcoossee's. He likes to time the meal so that he can watch the fireworks from the veranda (which is now reserved exclusively for guests of Narcoossee's).
DSC_0493_zps0hh95i3n.jpg

Bread Service - The meal starts with some bread and butter.
DSC_0495_zpsysqhwkgf.jpg

Crispy Rhode Island Calamari - Peppadew-Banana Pepper-Olive Relish and Tomato Coulis. Each time we've ordered this, the presentation seems to be a little different. Still the calamari is really good!
DSC_0521_zpsxpe2bdjg.jpg

Maine Lobster Bisque - Butter-poached Lobster, Bouchee, Coral, and Chives. This is one of Figment's favorite soups at WDW. It's very rich, with a good amount of lobster. Yum!
DSC_0502_zpsmte8jrgw.jpg

Artisan Romaine Salad - Crisp Romaine Heart, Herb Mascarpone, Shaved Manchego Cheese, Walnut Granola, Warm Cherrywood Bacon Vinaigrette. The salad was good, but the one at California Grill was better.
DSC_0510_zpsin5eloaq.jpg

Two-Pound Steamed Maine Lobster – Fallen corn soufflé with malted popcorn sauce and broccolini. This is Figment's favorite entree at Narcoossee's! The lobster is slightly chewy (steamed) and has really good flavor. The shell is cracked enough that it's easy to get the meat in the claws and legs.
DSC_0595_zpsfsckzj8e.jpg

Grass Fed Filet Mignon - Boniato-Potato Mash, Broccolini, Red Wine-Oxtail Reduction. The filet was very tender and flavorful.
DSC_0583_zpspiqaz8yu.jpg

Steamed Maine Lobster Tail Enhancement - Figment opted to add the lobster tail enhancement to the filet mignon and it was very good. Its smaller than the tail that comes with the whole steamed lobster, but it's still really tasty.
DSC_0585_zpsc5swjspi.jpg

Heritage Farms Cheshire Pork Rib Chop - Fregola Sarda Pasta Sofrito, Chicken-Pistachio Sausage, Baby Beets, Roasted Carrots, Cipollini Onion, Gala Apple Butter. It was a very generous cut of pork, but it was a little over-done and not as juicy as it could have been.
DSC_0593_zpswrszvvbe.jpg

Coconut and Chocolate Crème Brûlée - Layered Coconut and Chocolate with Whipped Chantilly Cream and Toasted Coconut. Figment normally has the almond-crusted cheesecake, but they had run out. The server was very apologetic and offered us the creme brulee instead. Figment is used to creme brulees that are really eggy, but this one was more like pudding. It was very smooth and very yummy!

DSC_0606_zps4kcsa44e.jpg

Boardwalk Bakery, Boardwalk Inn (Snack)
There were lots of really good looking treats at the Boardwalk Bakery.

Napoleon - The Napoleon was pretty good; a little messy to eat, but still yummy.
DSC_0037_zpsokpalq9y.jpg

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar Cake – The bar cake was very rich, but it's chocolate!
DSC_0036_zps6vvz72jh.jpg

Key Lime Bar – This was like a key lime pie, only smaller. It was slightly sweet and pretty tart.
DSC_0034_zpsiqroo6mw.jpg

Lemon Meringue Tart – The lemon meringue tart was like a mini-lemon meringue pie. It was fairly light and good.
DSC_0027_zpsrhb7esy6.jpg

Karamel Kuche, Epcot (Snack)
Stoppwaffel - After trying one on the airplane, Figment wanted to know what a "good" one tasted like. The waffle was slightly soft (from the caramel), but the caramel was really good.
DSC_0465_zpsfat8xtvs.jpg

L'Artisan des Glaces, Epcot (Snack)
Mixed Berry Sorbet
DSC_0108_zpsdyk7v0zq.jpg

Croque Glace - A warm brioche ice cream sandwich. Figment opted for coffee ice cream with chocolate sauce. So good!
