I am coaching my 7 year old daughter's soccer team this year. Anyone have experience and suggest any specific skills for them to do during practice? We practice 1x week for an hour and play each Saturday. It's 4on4, all girls and no goalies until next year.
I coached 7 & 8 year old girls last year at the Y. Same problem of only 1 hour a week of practice. We played 8 a side but had goalies. I recommend cone drills and passing drills mostly. They wont have time to learn positions but try to get them to learn to stay on their side of the field. you are gonna have a herding chickens problem where all of them are going to chase the ball. Just spend a lot of time getting them to pass sideline to sideline. I always finished practice letting them take penalty kicks against coach. Don't worry about conditioning or agility drills, they have plenty of endurance for the limited amount of playing time they get.
Not sure what kind of league it is or what your roster looks like; but we were a noncompetitive league because it was mostly at-risk or challenged kids. So it was important to make sure everyone played every position and got the same playing time regardless of ability. Just try to keep them from getting discouraged especially at that age.
