DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

I am coaching my 7 year old daughter's soccer team this year. Anyone have experience and suggest any specific skills for them to do during practice? We practice 1x week for an hour and play each Saturday. It's 4on4, all girls and no goalies until next year.

I coached 7 & 8 year old girls last year at the Y. Same problem of only 1 hour a week of practice. We played 8 a side but had goalies. I recommend cone drills and passing drills mostly. They wont have time to learn positions but try to get them to learn to stay on their side of the field. you are gonna have a herding chickens problem where all of them are going to chase the ball. Just spend a lot of time getting them to pass sideline to sideline. I always finished practice letting them take penalty kicks against coach. Don't worry about conditioning or agility drills, they have plenty of endurance for the limited amount of playing time they get.
Not sure what kind of league it is or what your roster looks like; but we were a noncompetitive league because it was mostly at-risk or challenged kids. So it was important to make sure everyone played every position and got the same playing time regardless of ability. Just try to keep them from getting discouraged especially at that age.

I def appreciate the advice. the league is run through our school district which is quite sizable. The league is fairly organized\structured. Most of the girls if not all have played a few season. The lower levels are co-ed. this is all girls. We have 10 girls on our rosters and on game day we play 4on4...so 4 girls play on one field against 4 girls from the other team and then 4 of our other girls go to another field against 4 of their other girls. We then have 1 sub for each side. It helps to keep the kids from herding the ball and actually understand positioning more. This is my daughter's 4th season in the league, but my first time coaching. So I'm not terribly familiar with the drills to conduct... and practice is on Monday the 31st!

There are so many things we'd rather face than an angry wife who is also right.

That last part was unnecessary
I second that.

I have firmly come to the conclusion that they are NOT always right, we just let them believe that they are because it saves time arguing and makes time for more beer (and bacon!)

While I didn't read ALL the man rules, if it's not there, I believe it should be!

With age comes wisdom. I am now 40, married to my wife for 12 years this past June, together since July 2001...and have 2 kids. There is a certain level of zen that you achieve when you know you are right and that suffices. You don't need your wife or others to know it, you find the inner sense of achievement and that's enough. My wife and I don't argue often but if she wants to debate me and be p1ssy, i sometimes just apologize and can walk away from it. Her stewing over it and "being a woman" is not worth the prize of proving that I am right.

Wow... You sound much like me. Just celebrated 12 years together about 2 weeks ago. Also with 2 kids. I am mid 40's though. I totally agree with the Zen statement. That's spot on in my book.

Afternoon Gents,

The Pirate Princess is now back to being a Pirate Princess Pirate as she has arrived at Seton Hall. Moving into her 1 bedroom suite, complete with living room and full kitchen. Imagine I will be sending care packages to her including food to cook and recipes. Seven payments down, one more to go.

Things are now considerably quieter here. Kind of sad but I am sure I will quickly get over it.

Seven days and a couple of hours away from the start of college football. Nine days, three hours and thirty-three minutes until the Florida Gators season kickoff.

There are so many things we'd rather face than an angry wife who is also right.

Well, there's your problem.

For all our technology, it's amazing how quickly we can be sent right back to the stone ages.

Without electricity, life as we know it is gone.

Just me and DS - he picked it for his HS graduation trip. Mom don't want nothing to do with it, recognizes it's a guys only trip so gave us her blessing.

Hope the all clear / all clear is given to DD. I am leaning towards BW as the walk or boat ride for two of our 4 park days will just provide a time saver.

Cool trip, enjoy the male bonding.

She is supposed to hear from the doctor today on the results of the sonogram.

Unless you're talking about a super hot female supermodel, that isn't anything I want you to talk about. Ever. :furious:.

I WAS with a supermodel. Oh wait, that was a dream.

Just a moment to pop back on. Situation Normal AFU at work lately. Ended up with 3500 strawberry plants that I hadn't planned on having that I need to get planted, hops need picking and busy digging sweet potatoes from a trial while the weather is dry. Had to replant my cabbage trial twice because of heat, rain and Canada gees. 4th wettest June, wettest July and on track for a wet August as well. 3 of the wettest summers on record have been in the last 5 years since we moved here. Glad I get paid whether the crops survive or not.

Welcome new guys, prayers for those in need, congratulations to those deserving, and bacon for all once Norm sends it.

3rd week of school for us, but only the third day for SWMBO teaching. The first two weeks were reading, preparation for State Fair, spelling, keyboarding etc. Now it is grammar, civics, history and all the others as well. Teacher and pupils have not killed each other yet. Given all that happened last year, if we survive the year I will be satisfied.

Sorry about that. I do not have the ability or intestinal fortitude to farm.

Afternoon, men! Lots going on in my corner of the world.
RE-BOOKED our Fall WDW trip. It was the most fun we'll never want to do again! I'll detail that later! Upside is that Norm Hayden, Jason Mitts and I will cross paths during our trip.
40 days out from our trip and despite my meticulous detailing of our trips, I still feel overwhelmed.
We have all of our meals, FP+ and ADRs set but still wondering what I'm forgetting! I literally plan from the end of one trip to the next...so it's a lot of pressure to remember all of those tips & tricks that I was supposed to accumulate over a year's time. LOL.

Kids started back to school this Tuesday. Bittersweet for everyone. Sad for summer vacation to end but happy to see their friends. And now the chaos ensues...School, homework, soccer, gymnastics, chorus, CCD, another chorus program....all good problems to have I suppose.

Congratulations on the trip Brett, you got this.

On the soccer front, run them till they puke?

Cliff pretty much said what I was going to say. I also did a drill where the wing dribbles down the line, makes a pass to the center who takes a shot on the pass without dribbling. Bang bang. I would also have a bat next to me to threaten the parents who were bitc$ing about their kid not playing enough. Usually it was the moms.

I second that.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Happy Thursday. Finished cutting the grass. 80 degrees in August in KY. The weather is terrific.

Welcome new guys, prayers for those in need, congratulations to those deserving, and bacon for all once Norm sends it.

I sent out all the proceeds I've received.

Yeah, hope we can get a meet up in. I need to count, but this may be my 20th trip to WDW. No stress for me when planning. Since this was a last minute trip, one ADR, one MNSSHP, one plan to go to TOTWL, and then onto the beach. I have it down enough to wing it now.

As for soccer, more touches on the ball is better. I divided an hour practice into these four things, with breaks in between
Foot skills - everyone has a ball and go thru basic moves
Passing - groups of 2 or 3 or 4 with one ball each
Game strategy or skill - shooting, throw in, goal kick, spacing, corner kick, etc
Scrimmage

15 years married next month. I get to be right once a year.

Here's a link with some good stuff I found useful for small sided skills / training.

O.K. I'll be the one to differ a bit here. Yes it is easier to let them stew, or think they are right but even then they are still a bit p1ssy. Also need to consider the others around that may hear the nonsensical babble, say your son. So, with this in mind I do often make the point of applying logic and correcting to demonstrate that I am indeed the one who is right. If she is gonna provide attitude because I don't take the bait and engage, heck with it and might as well make my point. Or, if DS is gonna look at me like grow some you are dead right, ya just need to take one for the man team and prove mamma wrong. I know peace is important, but there are just some times you need to set things correct.

Good luck to the PP for a successful semester and congrats on nearing the end of the the payment cycle. With DD at two more years including this one and DS not there til next year I think my heart would start / stop if I had the exact payments still to go. Also hope you get good news / all clear from the doctor today.

................. and the highlight of their season as it will be all downhill from there :stir: Sorry but living in Tennessee you are supposed to hate the Gators.

Men - thanks for the input, links, etc.. I am using that site to come up with drills. As for the parents, don't think I'll need a bat. I'm pretty direct. :-)
My rules are simple for the kids.
1. When I talk, you listen.
2. Play hard. No issues when a kid tries to kick a ball and misses. I just want them to focus and TRY to execute.
3. Be aggressive...don't watch the ball...GET the ball.
4. No criticizing your teammates...that's my job. LOL

Don't get me wrong, I can plan a trip in 25 minutes. But I am like the Clark Griswold of DISDads! I plan for unrealistic expectations. I think in the back of my mind I will be offered the suite in Cinderella's castle. I may also have certain expectations for Belle and Jasmine...but that's a story for another day!So it's more the planning\control freak in me than anything else. So after about the 1st hour into the trip, I actually let it all go and just focus on having fun.

I will commandeer a boat if that's what takes to get a meet up in! It's happening. Sat\Sun is best bet for me. Monday night the Steelers play and we are leaving Tuesday. So I'll be packing whilst watching the game. I'll make sure to get you and Jason my details (phone\email\CJ's cc number...)

I hear ya and I even get it. My dilemma is that I am the single (as in solitary) Man (well me and the dog, but he's been neutered) in a house of women. DW, DD17 and DD10, then there are the 3 female cats. The dog doesn't care if I win or lose a battle as long as I feed him and love him. He really is a big baby too. (and by big, I mean 140# LAP dog)
Maverick.jpg

The funny thing is, is that the dog is one the DW wanted. (I was opposed to the dog. Not because I don't like them, it's just I end up being the responsible one, feeding, cleaning, vet bills, etc..,and I didn't need anything else on my plate at the time). She tries to spoil the dog and yet the dog wants to be with me and obeys me above all others. Well unless you have food for him, then all bets are off, but otherwise! He even gets upset if DW tries to give me a kiss/hug. (He's very jealous)

So for me, the "Peace" is better then trying to win a battle especially if someone like a DS doesn't even exist for me.

My agenda today changed a bit. With TS Erika coming towards us, Operation Move the Crap became Operation Hunker Down. Just a tropical storm but no sense getting caught with your pants down (so to speak). Bought water and batteries when Danny popped up so went to Publix yesterday to get dog food and some canned food. Car is already gassed up. Will be closing the downstairs shutters today but will wait for tomorrow for the upstairs ones. Local channels are in full hurricane awareness mode. For the most part they are not freaking out. Not a big deal but you never know.

Doubt you would want to live in the suite she has. Haven't seen any pics yet but I bet it isn't up to DVC standards.

I think she is going to do well as I am sure your daughter will as well. Mine is excited to get into lab work and so is her professor. Most of the students deal with analyzing dead bones. She has lobster, fish and shark bits to work on. Hopefully turtles are added. She already is that teacher's pet.

I feel your pain and am thankful I only have one tuition to pay.

Always enjoy good natured ribbing between rivals, especially when the team poking fun at you hasn't beaten your team in a decade. Not sure what this season will bring. The Kentucky and Tennessee games are must wins in my mind for this to be a good year. I think they will be more entertaining offensively than in the past couple of years.

Throwback Thursday.

Decided to upload some old pictures from prints.

Wow! Clearing out the middle bedroom, I found two boxes full of pictures. Haven't looked at them yet but I am hoping for gems like that.

Good looking dog you got there. I am sure he will turn on you if the females bribed him enough. Feel your pain brother.

No need to go to the boat level. We're still thinking TOTWL Sunday. Saturday, we were thinking DTD, but then thought about going to the Boardwalk area, enjoying food and entertainment, and watch Illuminations from there. Anyway, still flexible. Let me know what works.

Just a tropical storm but no sense getting caught with your pants down (so to speak). w.

Please stop making references to yourself and not wearing clothes. :lmao:

Seriously, stay safe.

r.

Not sure KY football counts as a rivalry to anyone. I think they moved the annual UK UL game to the end of the season as they realized UK would never play for a conference championship, so let's go for in-state rivalry game. :lmao:

Top O the Morning Dads! Have a great Friday that flys by and if I don't get back here make sure to enjoy the weekend with the families.

Be safe down there and hoping this only provides a bit of the needed rain for FL.

Yeah figured as most folks around here really despise the Gators thought I would have some fun with you. I am by no means a UT fan as my passion lies with the Irish regardless of my local.

New to the "Club" here. Got a lot of reading to catch up. Not sure how much of it I will get through. Spending a lot of time thinking about the next vacation currently planned in June 2016 but might get pushed to November 2016. Happy and sad about it. Happy because the weather and crowd will probably both be more tolerable, sad because it's an extra 5 months to wait. Wish I could afford to do both. :)
