Citricos
I was able to leave work shortly after 3:00PM & we were on the highway heading to Disney by 3:45PM after a pitstop at the gas station. I got the room ready text message at 4:15PM of my room number and location, too bad it was going to be another 2.5 hours until we would be able to use it! The car ride was uneventful other than some work drama in text messages. (You know how you have that one person that is never a team player? I have some thoughts on that person but I'll behave here)
Right at 6:45PM, we pulled into the Polynesian, showed the guard our magic bands and were able to head straight to parking and to the room. We are staying in a studio at the Polynesian Villas. For two people, this room is great! The amount of storage would suck though for any larger group of people, especially if it was a long stay.
After settling in our room, we debated on which bar to get dinner at when my husband mentioned to look at what was still available on the website instead. We found that Citricos had an opening for 2 at 7:50PM. This was the perfect amount of time for us to head to the TTC to renew my annual pass (it expired on May 1st) and then hop on the monorail over!
Typically when going to Signature Restaurants, it is better planned, and we are dressed nicely. Well, today that didn't really happen. I was in jeans & my Star Wars Rebel Challenge Tech Shirt where as my husband was in shorts and a Star Wars T-Shirt. I felt underdressed but then again I remember that people don't really follow a dress code anymore most of the time at the signatures.
We were seated at a 4 top in the main section of the restaurant and looked over the wine list for a while. I was trying to wine the buying of the Foxen Block Chardonnay bottle but my husband didn't want to spend that much when weren't really dressed for a nice long dinner. We got a bottle of Selbach-Oster Riesling instead. We also agreed on better wine for our dinner the next night.
For dinner, we were boring and both ordered the exact same items.
Slow Roasted Pork Belly w/ Anson Mills Cheese Grits, Smoked Jalapeño, Sweet Onion & Hibiscus BBQ Sauce
The cheese grits were so good! They ended up being the highlight of this dish to me. The pork belly was good but it wasn't as tender as it could have been as it felt it hadn't been slow roasted long enough.
For our main course,
Pan Seared Ashley Farms Chicken Breast, Pea & Tarragon Risotto, Wilted Tuscan Kale & Roasted Chicken Demi-Glace
We both finished our respective plates off! The chicken was cooked very well and still was juicy in the middle. The pea and tarragon risotto had a nice sweetness to it that played off the chicken well.
We skipped dessert and walked back to the Polynesian. We were going to Trader Sam's but the wait was going to be 90 minutes so we just headed back to the room to watch the premiere of Wayward Pines while I dealt with some work emails.
