I'm looking for a good bag to bring to the parks. I've looked at what seems like thousands & bought a few, but they just aren't comfortable or what I'm looking for. Here's some specs on what I'm in search of:
1. Must be made of lightweight material.
2. I'm not looking for a backpack.
3. I'd prefer a single strap, cross-body type.
4. Must have lots of pockets.
5. Must have a pocket big enough for a standard DSLR camera.
6. Preferably is water resistant.
7. Must be smaller than a standard backpack. (I like the teardrop shaped bag size but I can never find any with a lot of pockets)
8. Must have some sort of padding to the strap so it doesn't rub against your neck.

If you know of anything like this or have suggestions that might fill most of these, please let me know. Thanks!

Overland Equipment Auburn bag -- my slr camera fits fine and the organizer flap and pockets keep things where I can find them easily. My tablet fits in the large slip pocket, too.

I love the Overland Equipment Bayliss mentioned above (I own two), but a slr camera certainly won't fit. My point and shoot does, though. And it has two pockets with fleece lining to protect screens. Smartphone goes in one and little camera in the other.

Based on other reviews from here I got the ebags Piazza Day Bag

I can't believe how much this held. Everyday I packed a water bottle, sunglasses, tupperware bowl with snacks, umbrella, ponchos, kids sunglasses, lanyard with pins, bottle of advil, first aid kit and my smartphone. It has so many pockets I was able to find everything quick. I had it go accross my shoulder most times and never had a problem. I don't know if it's fully waterproof, so for super wet attractions I just covered it with my poncho. I also brought a few zip loc bags to put my phone in just in case. My husband had a small backpack and it was not great that everytime he wanted something he had to take it off his back and rummage through it. I could always quickly grab whatever I needed.

Carried this same bag last fall and it was great! This year I bought a FUL sling pack on sale but only so DH and I can take turns carrying it. The Piazza bag came in lots if cute colours. Nine was eggplant. It has been a great bag for local zoo trips and field trips as well

Before our last trip, I pored over info/posts about bags. I stalked websites and read up on each one... I had a lot of the same requirements as you, OP, but also wanted a place to hold a bottle of water, and did not require holding a DSLR, as we were bringing an elph p&s.

So... looked very closely at the Overland Donner and an Eddie Bauer small messenger. (The Eddie Bauer Adventurer series looks great, but expensive!) I also checked out the Bagallini bags - my local hallmark store has a TON of different ones in stock, and my local TJ maxx has many there for much less expensive. But for research, I spent about 40 mins in my hallmark store trying them on.

In the end, I got a bag that I found in the travel section at my local Target - AND it was only $20! Loved it on our trip, and in the two years since then, it has gone on a 3,000 mile road trip to 8 national parks with us, and with MIL to Alaska and Hawaii. It's been a GREAT travel bag!

(the Overland Bayliss is on clearance on REI as well - actually there appear to be a ton of bags that meet your requirements in the travel section.)

FWIW, this is the bag that I got: (It's no longer available)

looking forward to taking it back to WDW this winter!

Good luck in your hunt for your perfect park bag!!!

This IS the bag I bought for our January trip this year. Loved it. I can't speak to if it will fit a DSLR as I have a Nikon J1. It held the camera, the extra lens, my phone, other "stuff", with room to spare. It was my "everyday bag" until I got a Disney Vera Bradley bag for Mother's Day!

I DID look at the LowPro (spelling?) mentioned above but I was looking for an "inexpensive" bag for the trip.

Love, love, love my Baggallini Messenger Bagg (this style):

Used it for my trip in February, based on feedback I read on the DIS. It's a medium-size bag; in fact, I was afraid it would be too small. But it holds a surprising amount of stuff. It has two exterior pockets; one fit my cell phone perfectly, and one held my water bottle. I can't say enough good things about it!

I have this bag, and while I never took it to WDW, I can tell you it will hold a DSLR with a moderate-sized lens attached in the main pocket. There are small pockets for your phone, sunscreen, wallet or credit cards, and maybe a few more things, as well as a mesh side pocket for a water bottle. It doesn't have a padded strap, but I've used it for day trips at it's very comfortable.

I purchased this in the red. Haven't used it yet but can tell you it maybe water-resistant, but it's not waterproof. One of the first things I did after receiving it was to dunk it in a sink full of water. It was wet inside as well as outside. I will be waterproofing it before taking it to WDW.

But it does have lots of pockets and room. :)

So does the Piazza advertise as waterproof? Because the FUL Peabody (the one I'm looking at that only comes in three colors, urgh) does. If the Peabody dunks and isn't completely waterproof, might not be a loss but I'll still be sad.

Hmm. The website used to say it was at least water resistant. it's one of the reasons why I purchased it. Seems as though they've changed it since I made my purchase.

Makes no matter now as I am going to waterproof it anyway.
