An Anniversary Trip Deluxe Dining Report... Updated 7/11

Nope, we have never been to Citrico's but it is now on the list, I dont know if we will give up Flying Fish or Cali Grill for it but I have got to try Citrico's and Narcoossee's too!

Well I honestly hope you have a wonderful meal no matter where you choose. I know its hard to make the decisions! I won't be able to offer opinions on either Narcossee's or Flying Fish as I didn't book them because of not having many options for my hubby. I think the next time though I may add one of them. Of course, it is all going to depend on WHEN that next time is as well as how long a trip we are going to have.

Next up... Tusker House...

here you are! i went to check in on your review last night, and couldn't remember the title of your thread....so instead of just stalking your thread, I'll subscribe.

Thanks for all the great pics and reviews!

So the following morning was our Animal Kingdom day. Again I had planned an early morning ADR in order to get us in the park early. I was trying to be able to do as much in the parks without long waits as possible. I will be writing more about how that back-fired on me later.

We checked in early again for this ADR. After waiting for a few minutes for them to begin seating guests we were taken to our table. Got our POG juice. And then went to the buffet to load our plates.

Here is Hunter's plate...

I'm not sure exactly what he had... I know there is bicsuits and gravy (one of his favorite breakfast foods), sausage, sliced ham with a sauce of some kind, ham and cheese fritatta, scrambled eggs and tator tots.

He ate most of what was on his plate and then went back for a few more items... which I did not take a picture of.

For me... This is my plate...
ry%3D400

I also had the Ham and Cheese Fritatta, tator tots, biscuits and gravy, but then I also had some oatmeal and maybe the porridge, some other potatoes, and sausage.

After my first plate I went back for a chocolate crescent, some fruit, and a cheese blintz.

I liked the breakfast here better than the breakfast buffet at Crystal Palace. I thought there were some more options here than at CP.

Just because there isn't any more pics of the food here is some pics of our character visits. This one is my favorite!

I think I am still half asleep here...

I would definitely book Tusker House again whether it be an early morning ADR to get into the park before open or as a mid morning break... I thought the food was hot and tasty and plenty of options.

Hubby would not have been impressed with the Cinderella Slipper... It is simply a molded piece of choclate which is filled. While it looks pretty it definitly wasn't a choice for him. Hubby makes some very interesting desserts. I will see if I can post some of them at a later date.

WE did tell Chef Eddie that Hunter was a Pastry Chef. That came up when he said he had been so dissapointed with the desserts we had encountered this far in the trip. Hunter had a special meeting planned with the Exec Pastry Chef of the GF later in the trip which I will tell more about in my next Citrico's Review.

Ok, I concede the point about the Slipper dessert. But as I don't mind where I get my chocolate, I would still probably want one! Please post Hunter's desserts if you can. I am sure lots of us would love to see them.

Ooh, not only do we get a "NEXT" Citricos review, but some inside dish about the meeting with the GF Exec Pastry Chef? Cool!

Thank for sharing your dinning. I'm enjoying your dinning review. I have a question about Tusker house...how was the sausage patties...they did not have that on our last trip. My husband and son loves the breakfast there and I'm thinking if we should put it on a must list (we have eaten there 3 times and wanted to try a new place). But your yummy review...I think I might have to add it.

I am really enjoying your dining review - thanks for posting them, and thank you for the links! :thumbsup2

Subscribing! We're eating at Yatchsman's in a few months and I'm so excited to read your review!

Once again THANKS for taking the time and those deserts from V&A looked awesome, thats the kind of stuff that makes Disney well DISNEY!!!!

I will post a few of my husband's desserts in the next post. Not many though as this is a disney report...

I wouldn't book it based on the sausage. It was just a regular sausage patty and nothing special. I would book it based on the over-all package... my favorite dish was the frittata. Is it possible to do Tusker House and a new breakfast place as well?

You're welcome for the links! I know its helpful if you are looking for reviews of a certain place.

Up next... back to our regularly scheduled program.... Jiko review coming soon!

I have been really not looking forward to this review because I know most people love Jiko and the reviews are generally excellent. However, this was not our experience. In fact this was the worst meal of our trip.

To start off we had a relatively early ADR. We were early again and the restaurant was practically empty. We were seated DIRECTLY behind the host stand. I couldn't believe this! We still had on our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary and the restaurant was empty. You would have thought they would have sat us in a little more of a private location. And it wasn't because there was only one section with servers as we saw people seated in other areas.

So here we are each taking a turn looking at the wine list...

We decided to not order wine as I had developed a cold several days into our trip and it was increasingly causing me to not be able to taste very much. I went with a hot tea to drink instead... (which if on the dining plan is actually a good deal as they are not cheap if OOP). My lack of taste during this meal will come into play shortly...

Here is the Jiko menu...
ry%3D400

This menu was not personalized as our other Signature Restaurant menu's had been.

Hunter ordered the Taste of Africa... Trio of Dips with Assorted Breads and House-made Naan
The first pic is of the breads and naan and the second of the dips.

ry%3D400

The one on the left is an olive hummus dip. The middle one is a spicy Moroccan dip and the one on the right is a spinach dip.

Normally I do not like anything with olives but I think my taste buds were just dead from the cold and I couldn't really taste it. I couldn't tell that the Morraccan was spicy either. The little bit of taste that I got from the dips was good. Hubby liked them also. The textures were good and I liked the breads that went with them. Hunter didn't care for the flat crispy one but liked the others.

For my appetizer I had the Cheese plate.
ry%3D400

Hunter and I both love cheese with him loving it even more than me and he really likes some strange cheeses. These chesses were more on the calm side of the cheese spectrum but they were enjoyable. We both enjoyed them. Some were firm, some soft and creamy... All were finished...

So you're probably wondering why this is our worst expereince... Well that all begins with our entree's.

Hunter ordered the Chermoula Tanglewood Chicken - with Goat Cheese Potatoes, Preserved Lemons, and Harissa
ry%3D400

I ordered the Roasted Lamb Loin- with herbed cous cous, figs, sun-dried cherries and red curry sauce
ry%3D400

Hunter had gone with the chicken because he had been eating a lot of beef and pork with other meals so wanted a different protein. His chicken when it came did not even look appetizing. He said the skin was black as in burnt not as in seasoned. The sauce looks like dirty water and he thought he would love the goat cheese potatoes but found them very distasteful. He had about 2 bites and was finished with his meal.

My Lamb was extremely gamey tasting. I have had lamb before so knew it can sometimes have a gamey taste but this was far more I had ever tasted before. Hunter tasted it for me since my taste buds were so dysfunctional and he said that it was definitely not just me and that it wasn't very good. I did eat about half of it since I couldn't taste it that much and was hungry. I did enjoy the cous-cous.

So we thought maybe dessert would bring the meal back together.. Luck was not on our side. The celebration dessert for Jiko was a Carrot Cake tpe dessert so Hunter planned on getting that s he loves Carrot Cake.... he goes to order it and the server says.. "I wouldn't choose that if I were you." Ummm.... why have something on the menu if the servers can't even take the order for it? ( I understand saying that you have a recommendation but to come straight out and just say pick something else?) Doesn't say much for the dessert if the "Celebration" dessert isn't worth ordering.

So he decided on the Sugar free option... an apple crostada.
ry%3D400

He said this was actually decent but not awesome by any means.

I had the Lemon Curd
ry%3D400

This was okay also. But who eats a dishful of lemon curd? I thought it would have more to it I guess.

Our service at Jiko was I think the worst we had at WDW. The attention was lacking. Nothing special here for us.

I would say it is unlikely that we would return.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience at Jiko! Ours was the exact opposite last year but we did order different entrees. DS wasn't feeling well and the server was wonderful about offering alternative things for him to eat. We are really looking forward to going back in December with DH. I hope your experience was a fluke! DS will be so disappointed if it isn't as good as last time!

Shame about Jiko's but I'm impressed with Citricos reply to your dessert comments. No wonder you are aware when something isn't up to scratch if you get desserts like that at home, lucky you!!!

Oh no I am so sorry to hear about your Jiko meal...out of curiousity did you ask to be moved? We ate there in Oct and were there right when they opened and they were taking walk ins before they sat the people with reservations! That really steamed me!

I agree with Hunter, that chicken looks ICK! If you guys ever go back get the filet with mac and cheese, it is fantastic! I am worried about our Oct plans that DH is going to get burned out on filet and pork too, he is not a fish man like I am and we eat alot of chicken at home..I am trying to spice up our ressies so he will not get bored.

I noticed that the servers are getting their 2 cents in on our ordering, when we go to order something they recommend something else...but we usually stick with what we want....we may be wrong in doing so but at least it is our mistake...

Dh and I were reading your reviews and when we came upon the Citricos Dessert we almost blew a gasket!!! Carmelized Banana Gateau is our absolutely all time favorite dessert ANYWHERE!!! DH rarely eats dessert and if he does, it doesn't have him talking for YEARS about it!!! LOL!! We love it!!! That is awesome and so are the rest of your reviews!!

Exact same experience at JIKO on June 8 bad service, food and experience I complained and it is apparent that my hopes in complaining to help others experiences be better is for nothing. I agree we will not be going back.

Thanks so much for sharing Hunter's desserts with us! I'd like one of those chocolate creations, please! :flower3: And one of those root beer floats! :cloud9:

I'm sorry you had such a poor experience at Jiko. I am pretty surprised that it was as poor as it was. I did a wine dinner there in October, and it was fabulous. My "regular" dinners there were always good, too. The executive chef moved to California Grill a few months ago, though. Now I want to return there again!

I think Hunter should have his own food porn thread!!!:worship:
Sorry your experience at Jiko was not up to par.
Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I'm sorry to hear about your Jiko experience. My last two dinners there have also been disappointments. I wish there was someone with inside information who could find out what has happened there that the quality of service and food has become so problematical.
