Who thinks the CDC will roll back their new mask rules from two days ago?

The one where they said that fully vaccinated people no longer have to mask or social distance indoors?

I was expecting it to happen this year, but I feel like with only 36% of the population fully vaccinated, it's too soon to be relaxing our guard. We're just asking for another outbreak by doing this, even if it's not nearly as severe as the first two.

I wouldn't worry about it if the CDC had made this change when the US population was, say, 70% vaccinated, but 36% is just too soon, IMO.

What are you worried about? If you're vaccinated it doesn't matter, you're good. If people don't want to get vaccinated then that's a "them" problem and up to them about taking the risk.

I didn't get vaccinated for me, I'm a healthy 32 year old who donates blood every month, and I initially declined it because supply was low and others needed it more than I do. When it finally opened up, I got vaccinated not for myself, but to protect the community, and more specifically the donors I volunteer for.

And just because someone is fully vaccinated does not mean they are immune. The evidence shows that while your case would be much less severe and your risk of transmission lower, you can still get Covid even if you have been fully vaccinated, so it can still spread even among vaccinated people.

Well, maybe. Too many "Breakthrough" cases are turning up. Way way way too soon to tell. Lord, we are only about 16 months into their process. They are still discovering things about the Spanish Flu from 100 YEARS ago.

You donate every month? You have to wait two months between blood donations here.

I donate platelets. Whole blood donors have to wait 8 weeks, or 16 if they give double reds. Platelet donors can do it every 7 days, but I do it once a month so that my losses don't get too high and my arms have enough time to heal in between venipunctures.

Plasma donors can give once every four weeks.

Why is this the only vaccine that people suddenly expect 100% immunity. Everything in life is a risk/reward calculation and these vaccines are basically a scientific miracle with the efficacy. Do you not go outside because people get struck by lightning or hit by cars?

I don't go anywhere unless I have to not because I feel unsafe, but because I don't want to have to wear a mask to do the things I used to love doing, and until that changes, I'd simply rather not do them. I.E if I can't go to Stateline Nevada and play Video Poker or watch football at the bar at Buffalo Bills without having to wear a mask even while drinking, I don't want to go. It's as simple as that. I mask when I do my necessary weekly errands and I don't complain about it, but it still robs the fun and joy out of being able to do things I once enjoyed doing, like going to the batting cages at Scandia.

I live in California, and as far as I know we're still under a "must mask" mandate.

They won't roll it back. The President and VP have declared it as a victory milestone moment, publicly. It's not going back. If you still feel uneasy, wear the mask to keep yourself and the theoretical "others" protected. But at this point, the science firmly agrees that fully vaccinated people are under no further obligation to protect others. Simply being vaccinated is enough protection for others.

I posted this on another thread, because I don't understand. The media attempted to terrorize parents about Multi Inflammatory Syndrome due to Covd.

And the whole "My mask protects you, your mask protects me".

All of a sudden, children don't matter anymore? Why isn't the CDC releasing breaking news that Multi Inflammatory Syndrome no longer a concern, since we can now be around children maskless?

Vaccinated people can still get covid and pass it to others. Look what just happened to the vaccinated NY Yankees players.

People have been 'done' with masks and the pandemic for months.

No way will people go back to masks.

Personally, I agree that it was too early. The children are still without a vaccine.

My state is only at 30% vaccinated, but that's because people don't want the vaccine. They've been 'done' for a long tine.

When the pandemic started, the point of distancing and masking was to flatten the curve as to not overwhelm hospitals. It seems like the mindset changed at some point to do all these things to avoid getting sick. As of now it seems like said curve has flattened and hospitals are no longer getting overwhelmed so maybe that was taken into account into the decision making?

That can always change though. All it takes is for us to briefly relax our guard and stop being vigilant against this crisis, and things can spiral out of control again. The curve was flattened specifically because we enforced these protective measures.

With nearly half of us vaccinated (and continuing to increase) and at least an additional 25-35% (conservative estimates) with some level of immunity due to exposure or infection, this isn't a concern anymore. We have reached a low enough level of community transmission that there will not be further massive spikes that will overwhelm hospitals. It's pretty much a mathematical impossibility.

The resurgences we saw last year after relaxing restrictions happened because we didn't have adequate vaccine protection yet.

Actually, in my state of Texas they removed the mask mandate about a month ago, yet cases have dropped sharply since that time. The drop has likely been due to an increase in people being vaccinated.

It isn't the government's job to keep us all healthy by any means necessary. If it were, everyone who smokes or is very overweight would be arrested and put into mandatory treatment. There was an out of control virus decimating the most vulnerable, and now the most vulnerable have all had the opportunity to get vaccinated, so there is no longer a call for the government to continue restricting everyone's lives.
