Hello-It'sSmee! A July 2020 "It's Good to Be Bad AND Back" TR *Link to new TR 2/21*

they've taken the fried green tomato sandwich off the Plaza menu.

Boo. Hopefully they bring it back someday. In the meantime, Rosie's AAC at DHS had a good one too…do we know if that one is still there? Is Rosie's even open??

Oh and the 3 of them shared the crab guac and said it was the best thing they'd ever eaten next to the lobster corn dogs but I took their word on that.

Ew…way to ruin a perfectly good food with crab :crazy2:

Best of all after dinner we were given hot towels! Some of you who read my dining reports "before" CruellaNY may remember Chris's fascination with the after dinner hot towel on our first visit to Cape May Cafe for dinner:

This never gets old :rotfl2:

Oooooooohhhhh…those looks AH-mazing!!

Obviously a woman responding 👩
Man. Woman. It doesn't matter. People in the know, know that coconut is vile.
Ah true! Hadn't thought of that, it was supposed to be released in May I believe. Wonder when it'll come out now. They often seem to do merch in front a the movie release.
I quickly Googled and it was first scheduled for October 11, 2019 then got moved to July 24, 2020. Well, we know what happened there, so now it's release date is July 30, 2021.
met-online-luckily-we-are-all-somewhat-normal-and-now-great-friends
Define: "somewhat normal"???
these guys were easily heard yelling at and abusing us folks walking below:
:lmao:
We had Lyfted and luckily our guy knew a way to get us in quick. This way was called "cutting off all other cars in our way" but hey, it worked!
I approve. As long as it a. gets me there fast and b. gets me there alive.
we heard they'd closed the Lime garage to capacity.
Whoa! Really!
And got right to ordering! I had my eye on the Fried Green Tomatoes app since you cannot find them on any menu up here and they've taken the fried green tomato sandwich off the Plaza menu. These did not disappoint at all!
Fried Green Tomatoes
Elote, Queso Fresco, Rémoulade
I have never had fried green tomatoes and am very anxious to try them. Maybe I'll have to give Paddlefish another try.
We shared our apps (not forks guys, we love each other but stopped at sharing tableware. Well most of us did - I'll get to that on our last night together lol)
Um... okay?
Lobster Corn Dogs
I'm sorry, what??? That sounds amazing! (To me, maybe not so much to you.)
For those who enjoy seafood? I do NOT.
So... not a fan?
Tell you what. You can have all my magic bars and I'll take all your lobster. Deal?
However these 3 assured me in no uncertain terms that these did not taste fishy or like lobster at all and were the best things on the planet so I took a bite. And did this which I hope shows up:
Wish I could've seen your face. :)
Not liking seafood (did I tell you that?)
What? No!
I order MEAT for dinner in the form of this:
Filet Mignon
mmm... love a good filet mignon.

Um... but I love it more with a lobster tail. Sorry!
We ended up sitting and talking pretty much up until they closed.
:) Very nice. That's a good sign of good friends.
We have heard some negatives about eating here but loved our meal, are glad we finally tried it and will return
I think I'll have to give this place a second chance.
More food pics starting with those fried green tomatoes:
Man that looks good!

Ok so that Paddlefish meal looks incredible...and as a seafood lover I'd definitely want to try to lobster as well as that crab guac! However I'm even more intrigued about the "best" sangria...because I do love a good sangria.
Oh man the sangria was delicious! I don't know why I guess just the fruit flavors? Lots of the restaurants there serve the Beso de Sol sangria which is ok but generic tasting so I appreciate when they make their own.
It certainly sounds like it's a good idea to avoid Disney Springs, not that I've ever been a huge fan of it anyway.
It wasn't nearly as bad when we went back the next night! Originally Steve said he wanted to not go to DS for our Sept trip just because it is more crowded than the rest of Disney but with the restaurants that are/aren't open at the resorts and parks we may end up there once or twice.
Thank goodness we didn't turn out to be psycho killers. LOL!
Well I guess there's still time :clown: Maybe you're just warming us up before the kill lol!
That was so funny. The look on your face was priceless.
Yeah you ALL said they weren't fishy tasting!!
We were??? How could I not remember that one??? I wasn't even drunk that night...
That's funny yes! We were all given them on a plate lol!
Paddlefish sounds really good. No offense to you but all the seafood appetizers sound delicious 😋 haha!
Ha ha none taken! So many seafood dishes look great and I feel like I'd like them - if it weren't for the seafood part :fish:So take it from the 3 who do like seafood and finished all the apps it must have been good!
I hope all goes well for Ricky on his college adventures. I think Andi will be doing mostly online learning again, not her favorite.
Yeah that stinks for lots of college kids; crossing fingers Ricky and the others who are going away make it through the semester without the schools having to shut down 🤞So far 4 of Ricky's 5 classes are in person and 1 online and I hope it stays that way!
Andi would love the hot spicy noodles you had at Skippers! She loves spicy food!
OK if you guys go there I want her to order those and see what she thinks!
I'm a seafood lover so I would have enjoyed the the apps. DH & DD really like fried green tomatoes so they could have shared with you.

So glad you enjoyed your meal with friends (who didn't try to kill you).
We always enjoy meals with our DIS friends and cannot wait for more good times next month :goodvibes I think Paddlefish is also great for apps drinks and dessert!
The lobster corn dogs don't sound very appealing to me. Regular corn dogs don't sound good to me, either.
Now I do like regular corn dogs and the ones from Casey's are really good! But the lobster- nope.
We weren't very impressed with Paddlefish when we ate there a few years ago. It sounds like they have gotten better since we were there.
I was skeptical because like you, otherse have said they weren't impressed and/or they felt the prices were too high. But I'm glad Jenny chose it for her birthday because I don't know if we would have tried it otherwise and now I want to go back. I enjoy trying new places especially ones I didn't think we'd like!
That food looked soooo goood!! I do love both seafood and meat lol so I'd love any of those choices...and of course...good company!
Everything was a win!

It's been so long since the last trip report I've read. Just read your intro and am excited to read on. I'm sooo missing WDW.
Aw, well :welcome: to my report, I'm glad you're here and I hope you keep reading! And I hope it brings you happiness while you're missing Disney :smickey:
Now for the shocker- I’ve never had a corn dog! Lobster or otherwise! Are the non-lobster ones just corn and are hushpuppies the same thing?:confused3
WOW! You need to go to Casey's on your next Disney trip STAT!
As I promptly stopped chewing the vile lobster version and swallowed it rather whole, all I can say is I think s? LOL the breading tasted like regular corn dog breading.
Sorry to hijack your thread Ariane, but I wanted to wish @luvpoohandcompany the very best! I admire your spunk and your attitude! That is 95% of recovery! Sending virtual hugs! :grouphug:
OMG please do not apologize. This is how we become good friends here; being comfortable sharing with people we don't "know" because we DO know they care. And as you see, we do 💕
Thanks Ariane. Sorry for hijacking but know that your trip report is helping brighten my day and make this whole thing easier.
Thank you so much Moira! I wish I could do more
Paddlefish looks amazing though I’d be lying if I said I’m a lover of seafood 🦞 Cod in batter or golden cutlets are about exciting as it gets for me though I am determined to try and improve on that!
LOL! It's hard when you don't like seafood going to seafood heavy restaurants but those fried green tomatoes swayed me :) Just as an FYI I also love dinner at Cape May Cafe which is heavily seafood but they always have a bunch of great salads and pastas plus a carving station. Now if they'd just open again.......
We were there many, many years ago (1994) when it was DTD and not Disney Springs and called The Empress Lilyboat and it was fab!
We were never there when it was the Empress Lily but we were at a restaurant down there years ago that I think was Capt Jack's? That was good!
In the meantime, Rosie's AAC at DHS had a good one too…do we know if that one is still there? Is Rosie's even open??
I think you've told me about this! But I don't think they're open right now, I'll look before we go in Sept!
Ew…way to ruin a perfectly good food with crab :crazy2:
 right?
💕
This never gets old :rotfl2:
I'll be using these pictures at his wedding lol
I quickly Googled and it was first scheduled for October 11, 2019 then got moved to July 24, 2020. Well, we know what happened there, so now it's release date is July 30, 2021.
WOW! Surprised it's now that far out but I guess they want to wait until people will hopefully be comfortable going to theaters. Our governor here in NY just announced today that gyms can reopen the 24th; bowling alleys opened yesterday; he won't let theaters open yet.
I have never had fried green tomatoes and am very anxious to try them. Maybe I'll have to give Paddlefish another try.:)
You should because they are delish. Although Homecomin' has a fried green tomato app that's delicious also if you prefer there.
Tell you what. You can have all my magic bars and I'll take all your lobster. Deal?
OOHH- DEAL :thumbsup2
Wish I could've seen your face. :)
The other 3 were hysterical looking at me!
I was not hysterical.

Our theaters are open now. It's all assigned seating, I think. With social distancing. Not sure about masks. I'll have to ask DD. (She works there part time and did on Saturday.)

I can't. I must have the deviled eggs there for an appie.
And the fried chicken with sides of mac n cheese and mash potatoes with gravy for the main.

Nothing else can get in the way.
OOHH- DEAL :thumbsup2
:)

I really do! So many things to eat I never make it there but I will rectify this just as soon as I’m allowed in the country :thumbsup2

We were never there when it was the Empress Lily but we were at a restaurant down there years ago that I think was Capt Jack's? That was good!
Capt Jack’s was great too and the bar that ran alongside the marina was a favourite spot of ours as well. We used to stay at The Grosvenor (think it’s the Wyndham now) on Hotel Plaza back before we made it onsite, when dtd was still fairly quiet and so we loved so many places there. Happy memories:goodvibes
I'll be using these pictures at his wedding lol
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:or his 21st if you can’t wait that long!!!!

I’ll be grand. Pretty sure no one from home knows me on here so, now that I’ve told my youngest son, it’s safe to say, I’m having chemotherapy for breast cancer diagnosed just before Covid hit. Surgery x2 done and radiotherapy to come but prognosis is good and I’m a stubborn wee git when I want to be and have no intention of leaving the planet anytime soon, so that makes it great! Just having to be super careful due to lowered immunity and such but all will be grand eventually :goodvibes Not for mentioning in Fb though as lots of locals on there so it’s just between us Disfriends like @kittylady1972 super secret club 2:rotfl::thumbsup2
I am sorry to hear you are dealing with this. Early diagnosis and treatment is a good thing and I am sure you will be on the road to recovery soon. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
And got right to ordering! I had my eye on the Fried Green Tomatoes app since you cannot find them on any menu up here and they've taken the fried green tomato sandwich off the Plaza menu. These did not disappoint at all!
This is exactly what I would order! No thanks for me to the revolting lobster....how you even took a bite I don't know (and I grew up in PEI where lobster is everywhere!)
Unlike this morning when I didn't have a set time we wanted to be at the park, tomorrow I did! And if you know how we like to change things up last minute, you'll be happy to know we did that a few times this trip starting with tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned!
Nothing better than switching plans on the fly!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I am getting there and I have been truly amazed by the kindness of friends both virtually made and in person. You are all such a great support and it’s very much appreciated

Was I drunk and just didn't realize it??? LOL!
lmao I have no idea what you were looking at when our server delivered them!
Our theaters are open now. It's all assigned seating, I think. With social distancing. Not sure about masks. I'll have to ask DD. (She works there part time and did on Saturday.)
We had assigned seating for awhile before the shutdown so I don't quite understand why they aren't open yet. But since it's only been 2 days for bowling alleys and gyms aren't till Monday hopefully they aren't far behind.
I can't. I must have the deviled eggs there for an appie.
Well surprise surprise we actually both like the same thing!
really do! So many things to eat I never make it there but I will rectify this just as soon as I’m allowed in the country
Ugh I hope it's sooner rather than later 🤞
Nothing better than switching plans on the fly!
It's one of the things we do best down there ::yes::

I'm so excited for our September trip in 40 days and writing this TR is making me more excited to go back!
I thought you all decided to move September to November? Are you doing both?

Oh and for those of you who attended college; remember how tiny your freshman dorm was? Well for distancing purposes they have put freshmen in upper class dorms so instead of a small, regular room with 1 roommate he's in a freaking apartment size suite with 5 other guys!
Wow! That is pretty impressive. Pretty sure my college dorm was the size of a thumbtack and it had no air conditioning. My freshman year roommate also never washed her clothes or linens for the entire year, so that was fun.

But Chris won't be leaving at all since our district went from hybrid remote/in person school on Monday to all remote on Tuesday.
Ours did a flip flop too. We had to make a choice for all virtual or 2 days a week by 15 July then by 20 July it was all virtual. We'd chosen 2 days but that was quickly dashed.

By the time we got there we'd gotten that message and walked right in! I didn't take pictures of the physical distancing in there but it was great we thought. Interestingly enough we've never seen the restaurant as crowded as it was this day! So good to see something "busy" in Disney but still safe.
So weird. As I read you were going to Skppers I thought well they should't even have to worry about social distancing b/c no one is ever in there. Guess with other places closed the secret is up.

But I was not in any way ready for these noodles, this was delicious and my fabulous Dr. Loosen Reisling helped in between bites but an hour after we left dinner my CHIN was tingling from the heat. Not tinkling but tingling to the point I wanted to rub aloe all over it.
:rotfl2:You sure you didn't have a tinkling chin??? We'd had these once before and they were not spicy in the least. Guess in these trying times they wanted to make sure you could really feel and connect with you food.

I can take or leave JC but this is some cute stuff!
I'm on the same bote :P I'm loving some of those t-shirts

This is so cute and a real treat! As someone who loves characters but isn't that into meets I prefer this way. I also as I said, enjoy not knowing when I'll see who.
Oh I can't wait to see this. I am so the same way. I love it when you happen upon characters walking around but loathe meet and greets. These impromptu cavalcades sound like my kinda thing

first meal of the trip with our special met-online-luckily-we-are-all-somewhat-normal-and-now-great-friends friends, Birthday Gal Jenny and DH Joe!
Somewhat normal? You sure?

This time as you may have read in @Jenny Sanders TR the traffic to get in to DS at around 6:15 was RIDICULOUS. We had Lyfted and luckily our guy knew a way to get us in quick. This way was called "cutting off all other cars in our way" but hey, it worked! The lines to get in to the parking garages were BLOCKS long and not moving and then we heard they'd closed the Lime garage to capacity.
Disney Springs looks and sounds like a complete cluster. I was figuring we'd be dining there lots in November but with the parks closing down even earlier I'm thinking it may actually get worse. Think resort dining may only be in our future

NASTY! Nasty nasty lobster! It tasted like LOBSTER!! So if you don't like seafood do not let anyone trick you into tasting this, stick with your fried green tomatoes!
In what world would they tell you that fried lobster does not taste like lobster and you'd believe them???? Its literally a piece of lobster ya know, fried :rotfl: May I never fall for a similar mushroom trick

And here is Steve performing as Chris (but not as well) at Paddlefish:

Steve has gotta step up the hot towel game and really get in there

Oh boy moms and dads, this first kid going away to college is NOT easy. We were both doing ok until yesterday when my mom, stepson, DDIL and DGD came over. After they all said good-bye to Ricky he got sad; then I got sad. And today I started seeing quite a few posts on FB from people dropping their kids off. I wasn't letting myself think about Saturday but now I have to and I don't like it! I did tell him I'll bake every other week and bring whatever I make up to him and his roommates; now I need to get this info to said roommates so they ASK him to ask me to come up 🍪🧁🥮

520139

On a note that doesn't make me sad we are just 33 days from our Sept. Disney trip! I'll write more about our plans when it gets a bit closer but we'll be returning to my favorite resort but in a different way; staying for the first time NOT technically at WL, not at CCV, but giving this part of the resort a try:

520142

Boulder Ridge Villas! Hey it still gets me close to my Magic Bars 💖

Day 3 Part 1: Railroad Resistance the Hollywood Way

Second full day in the parks! Today we didn't need to get up EARLY but I did want to be at our park by a specific time. We were going to HS and our goal was to ride not one but two attractions we hadn't ridden yet! But first, breakfast:

520143

Nothing better than a Mickey waffle morning except when the Mickey waffle is BLAH. Last time we stayed at BCV the breakfasts at the Marketplace were always delicious, especially the cheesy hashbrowns seen here at approx. 8:00. This time the waffle was dry, the cheesy hashbrowns dry and burnt and the bacon, limp 🥓 Not the adjective you want to have to use for your bacon! I ate the eggs and called it a meal.

We took a Lyft to HS because the skyliner from IG didn't start running until about 9:30 and we wanted to be there early. We got picked up at 9:00, got to the gate at 9:10 and sat until they opened the parking lot at 9:20. By 9:35 we were on line for our first ride on MMRR:

520144

When you first get there it's cute but I will say with no shame that we were not impressed in the least unfortunately. Considering what it took the place of? Nope. This is just another boring ride to us that doesn't really differentiate itself like GMR did. Speaking of here's us after our last ride on GMR, the day before it closed for good, August 12 2017:

520145

Ah the rides I miss! I'm glad we rode it; whenever the boys are with us again we'll ride so they can experience it but otherwise I'm fine if we never ride again. On to the 2nd new to us attraction we wanted to ride-
Do you believe we walked out of MMRR at 9:57?? We had 3 minutes before we had to grab that ROTR boarding group, what luck! We'd been to Disney a few times since ROTR opened but as non SW fans never had the desire to get there early and do what was needed to get on. This time though we figured it's finally time so we stood over by the bathrooms to the right of the theater and got ready.

I grabbed boarding group 23 yay! Our approx wait time was 2.5 hours so around 12:30 we would hopefully be called. With that done we felt a little more relaxed and went right to my favorite:

520154

To find that it was down. UGH! Well since that was down and RnRC had a 65 minute wait we instead backtracked to TSL! First we rode TSM with a posted 15 minute wait that was simply a walk through the queue. Then I quick met up with a co-worker and after that we rode SDD, posted wait 35 and we were on in 20. I'd love to post our ride pic but for some reason all our MM pictures have disappeared tonight? Oh well the line kept moving and so 20 minutes to wait was nothing at all!

It was not around 11 and we noticed ROTR was down, moving our ride time out as it was still currently at 2 hours. It also seemed hotter today but we still stopped for a few to watch another little character cavalcade!

520158

520159

520160

Now let me set the scene for what happened next: It's HOT. TOT is still down, we have at least 2 hours until we get called for ROTR. There wasn't really anything else we wanted to do plus we had a 4:00 reservation at HBD - almost 5 hours away. We did some window shopping and I was getting super cranky and hangry and was about to call it quits thinking we'd just possibly come back if and when our boarding group was called. Luckily Steve was up for whatever; he stopped to use the restroom before we headed out and I had an epiphany 🌤

What if we could eat at HBD - NOW? Hmm.............
Many of you know we like to switch things up last minute- keeps us fresh :smooth: Steve thought my idea was fabulous as he does all my ideas so we went directly to the restaurant, explained what time our ADR was for and what we wanted now, and in about 7 minutes we had these in front of us:

520162

It felt so good that day to finally get in a/c! And to not leave the park before our boarding group was called. This would satisfy my hanger, cool us off, and buy us time until we rode ROTR. Or would it.........................................

I thought you all decided to move September to November? Are you doing both?
No we're doing both! Just no granddaughter next month :( Going to celebrate the holiday that is Steve's birthday down there!
Pretty sure my college dorm was the size of a thumbtack and it had no air conditioning. My freshman year roommate also never washed her clothes or linens for the entire year, so that was fun.
Yup that's about the size of mine with no a/c. Then junior year I had a roommate who started dating a guy in April who didn't wear deoderant; and it was a super hot year. So that was fun!
We'd had these once before and they were not spicy in the least. Guess in these trying times they wanted to make sure you could really feel and connect with you food.
Wow I guess they upped their heat game post-COVID!
You sure you didn't have a tinkling chin???
 I can probably figure this out for November though lol!
I love it when you happen upon characters walking around but loathe meet and greets. These impromptu cavalcades sound like my kinda thing
I agree. I'm not big on the meet and greets and really like the surprise element. I'd love for this to continue but I'm sure as soon as possible they'll go back to the old ways to make the masses happy....
Somewhat normal? You sure?
Hey I'm trying to be nice!
Disney Springs looks and sounds like a complete cluster. I was figuring we'd be dining there lots in November but with the parks closing down even earlier I'm thinking it may actually get worse. Think resort dining may only be in our future
It was so different in July than in June. It was a bit uncomfortable the first night when we went to Paddlefish and not quite as bad the next two nights but Steve did say he wanted to limit how much time we spend there in Sept. right now we don't have any plans to eat there but I think we'll end up there at least once due to what is open and availability of outdoor seating. But yeah I expect it to be busier with the reduced hours so we can only hope by the end of Oct/beginning of Nov maybe the extend them again.
Steve has gotta step up the hot towel game and really get in there
🤣 I'll work on a tinkling chin and he'll work on the art of after dinner hot towel usage :thumbsup2

Oh boy moms and dads, this first kid going away to college is NOT easy.
I did tell him I'll bake every other week and bring whatever I make up to him and his roommates;
Can I send you my mailing address? Wait... do you put coconut in all your baking???? Nevermind!
now I need to get this info to said roommates so they ASK him to ask me to come up 🍪🧁🥮
Boulder Ridge Villas! Hey it still gets me close to my Magic Bars 💖
Very nice!
The resort, not the coconut laced horror.
But first, breakfast:
#priorities
especially the cheesy hashbrowns seen here at approx. 8:00.
Wonder how many readers will think that's the time.
This time the waffle was dry, the cheesy hashbrowns dry and burnt and the bacon, limp 🥓
Ew. Why didn't you return it? No time? Not your style?
Not the adjective you want to have to use for your bacon!
Nope. Nor for other things, I think.

Like a pen
Or a pencil

By 9:35 we were on line for our first ride on MMRR:
Ah! Haven't ridden this yet.
When you first get there it's cute but I will say with no shame that we were not impressed in the least unfortunately.
Oh. Well that's deflating.
whenever the boys are with us again we'll ride so they can experience it but otherwise I'm fine if we never ride again.
High praise... not.
To find that it was down.
Well, poop!
First we rode TSM with a posted 15 minute wait that was simply a walk through the queue.
Not bad!!
we rode SDD, posted wait 35 and we were on in 20.
Also not bad!
Now let me set the scene for what happened next: It's HOT. TOT is still down,
I read that as "It's HOT, TOT."
Steve thought my idea was fabulous as he does all my ideas
Good man. ::yes::
in about 7 minutes we had these in front of us:

520162

Yum. Yes please.

Oh boy moms and dads, this first kid going away to college is NOT easy. We were both doing ok until yesterday when my mom, stepson, DDIL and DGD came over. Such a big change.......it will get easier and you will have the joy of him coming home for visits to look forward to.
Boulder Ridge Villas! Hey it still gets me close to my Magic Bars 💖
My lovely home resort! I hope you love it! :)
Sounds like a fun time in TSL! I like the cavalcades too although I enjoy a M&G as well. Did you ever get to ride ToT?
Many of you know we like to switch things up last minute- keeps us fresh :smooth: Steve thought my idea was fabulous as he does all my ideas so we went directly to the restaurant, explained what time our ADR was for and what we wanted now, and in about 7 minutes we had these in front of us:
[/QUOTE]
Yay! Great decision! What did you get for lunch?

I hope you write a trip report for your stay at Boulder Ridge. I haven't read any trip reports from people who stayed there and I'd like to know what it is like. The BRV lobby is gorgeous.

We enjoyed the new MMRR ride but I have to agree that it isn't in the same caliber as Great Movie Ride. It would have been nice if they could have kept the ride and updated the movies in the ride instead of completely removing it.

I know I said this before but super cool that HBD accommodated you and took you early. A little bit of kindness goes a long way.
Hey, if you're going to bake for Ricky, send me a plate, lol!!!!
Yes, the first kid is always the roughest but I promise you will get through it and it will all be ok. 😘

Oh boy moms and dads, this first kid going away to college is NOT easy.
:hug:My son moved out this morning and even though he wouldn't be home from work yet the house just feels weirdly empty so I totally get it. I told him he's to facetime tonight to tell me how his day went and he just laughed and said "ok I'll humour you today":rotfl:Works for me lol
I'll bake every other week and bring whatever I make up to him and his roommates; now I need to get this info to said roommates so they ASK him to ask me to come up 🍪🧁
