Hello-It'sSmee! A July 2020 "It's Good to Be Bad AND Back" TR *Link to new TR 2/21*

I hope you are ok
I’ll be grand. Pretty sure no one from home knows me on here so, now that I’ve told my youngest son, it’s safe to say, I’m having chemotherapy for breast cancer diagnosed just before Covid hit. Surgery x2 done and radiotherapy to come but prognosis is good and I’m a stubborn wee git when I want to be and have no intention of leaving the planet anytime soon, so that makes it great! Just having to be super careful due to lowered immunity and such but all will be grand eventually :goodvibes Not for mentioning in Fb though as lots of locals on there so it’s just between us Disfriends like @kittylady1972 super secret club 2:rotfl::thumbsup2
Aw! I understand! Steve has stores in CT not far from Ricky so he'll be in the area on occasion and can grab Ricky for lunch! But at least your son is with family!
It’s brilliant that they like each other enough to live together for a bit. Hoping they still feel that way by the end lol

Well for distancing purposes they have put freshmen in upper class dorms so instead of a small, regular room with 1 roommate he's in a freaking apartment size suite with 5 other guys!

That room looks amazing! So happy you made it through your trial run!

I recommend Skippers and definitely this dessert!

It's the one place I have zero interest in ever eating at :crazy2:

We started with Pirates and found neat new Jungle Cruise merch in the Pirates gift shop:

Omg, how cute! 😍

It was a full blown character explosion all around! A great way to leave the MK after our first post-virus visit!

I think that all looks so awesome!

Yay I'm glad you're enjoying the food parts! Usually I do a dining report as well as a TR but this time decided to combine :) I do plan on doing both for our Sept trip! I may know this already (I'm old so forgive me) but what are your Sept dates?

We will be at YC- 1st time!- 9/13-20. I know you're on the Sept. thread, but I didn't see when you will be there or where (it still says we're at BC on that thread, but then again there's a lot of people still listed at resorts that aren't even going to be open).

This is really interesting. I am wondering how my son's school is handling the dorms. That's nice that he will have so much space.
Yeah all colleges here seem to be handing it differently too. The NY state schools of which there are TONS are all doing things differently as well.
can't wait to ride again and hopefully get the merch. I know I could probably order online but it's just not the same as having been there to get it!!!
That's how I feel about my Laila perfume! I can order from Nordstroms but it's not the same as grabbing it in Norway!
The food at SC looks amazing!!! I have always wanted to try that place but it's a bit to "exotic" for my kids
We haven't taken the kids for the same reason, although there are a couple apps they'd be ok with and then like 1 entree they'd like.
I will be your first badge wearing member! Sign me up! :thumbsup2
LOL now wait a minute!
Well I guess it's actually ok because then it's just more magic bars for me!
I did but they said my position was over-represented and inherently correct.
Obviously a woman responding 👩
And then the nickel dropped. The movie is coming out soon so of course there’ll be merch.
Ah true! Hadn't thought of that, it was supposed to be released in May I believe. Wonder when it'll come out now. They often seem to do merch in front a the movie release.
That would've made for an excellent headline!
 that headline being "maskless marauders banned from Disney for mixing their own concoctions in the Vineyard"

I’ll be grand.
If you say so, it will  and if definitely sounds as though it will be! Thank you so much for sharing Moira, my thoughts are will you xoxo
hat room looks amazing! So happy you made it through your trial run!
Wasn't as hard as I thought, now I just need this Saturday NEVER to arrive lol
It's the one place I have zero interest in ever eating at :crazy2:
I can see that knowing how you eat 😂 But you would probably enjoy the salad Steve had? And they usually have a steak salad on the menu as well but yeah, I don't see you going there!
Pool games sounded fun!
Hi there! They sounded fun! We've never been in Disney on July 25th so not sure if this is something the resorts all do on that date each year. Whether or not that's the case it was nice to know they were doing something "special" even with the lower attendance.
We will be at YC- 1st time!- 9/13-20. I know you're on the Sept. thread, but I didn't see when you will be there or where (it still says we're at BC on that thread, but then again there's a lot of people still listed at resorts that aren't even going to be open).
Cool! But just like my friend Whitney @Whit64130 I miss you by 2 days. We've stayed at the YC and enjoyed it, the area itself is so great! Plus you'll have SAB open!
I don't even know if I'm listed on the dates post thing over there lol I should check. We were originally the 23-27th but are now coming in the 22nd and are trying out Boulder Ridge Villas.

Moira I'm so happy things are going well. Your in my prayers. I know you can beat this.

Day 2 part 3: Nothing a Little Sangria Can't Fix :ssst:

So we are finally out of the parks- well park, it IS summer 2020 after all - and have spent some time resting in our room. That heat was definitely present and we both needed to refresh before our dinner that night which would be our first meal of the trip with our special met-online-luckily-we-are-all-somewhat-normal-and-now-great-friends friends, Birthday Gal Jenny and DH Joe!

This was also going to be our first foray to DS since our June Universal trip and we knew crowds had increased. In June it was DEAD there - we went twice - and actually made me feel quite sad with so many stores closed. It was so quiet as you walked around in June that these guys were easily heard yelling at and abusing us folks walking below:

This time as you may have read in @Jenny Sanders TR the traffic to get in to DS at around 6:15 was RIDICULOUS. We had Lyfted and luckily our guy knew a way to get us in quick. This way was called "cutting off all other cars in our way" but hey, it worked! The lines to get in to the parking garages were BLOCKS long and not moving and then we heard they'd closed the Lime garage to capacity.

We went right to our dinner, a first for all 4 of us at Paddlefish! We were sat upstairs and there were like 2 other parties up there. Drinks were gotten right away; an Old Fashioned possibly for Joe, Grey Goose on the rocks for Steve, and possibly the best Disney sangria I've had in pitcher size for Jenny and I. We toasted the birthday girl:

And got right to ordering! I had my eye on the Fried Green Tomatoes app since you cannot find them on any menu up here and they've taken the fried green tomato sandwich off the Plaza menu. These did not disappoint at all!

Fried Green Tomatoes
Elote, Queso Fresco, Rémoulade

We shared our apps (not forks guys, we love each other but stopped at sharing tableware. Well most of us did - I'll get to that on our last night together lol) and when the others ordered a lobster app they talked me in to trying it.

Lobster Corn Dogs
Sweet chili aïoli

Pretty sure Steve got an order and then Jenny and Joe shared an order. Looks great right? For those who enjoy seafood? I do NOT. Popcorn shrimp maybe; and tuna fish which Steve finds crazy. Nothing else. However these 3 assured me in no uncertain terms that these did not taste fishy or like lobster at all and were the best things on the planet so I took a bite. And did this which I hope shows up:

https://tenor.com/view/nasty-parks-and-rec-leslie-knope-gif-7993491
NASTY! Nasty nasty lobster! It tasted like LOBSTER!! So if you don't like seafood do not let anyone trick you into tasting this, stick with your fried green tomatoes!

All was well in a few minutes as the sangria soaked up the lobster nastiness and we moved on to fun conversation until our entrees arrived. Oh and the 3 of them shared the crab guac and said it was the best thing they'd ever eaten next to the lobster corn dogs but I took their word on that.

Crab Guacamole
Lump Crab, Onion, Tomato, Jalapeño, Cilantro, Lime, Avocado and Tajin Tortilla chips

Not liking seafood (did I tell you that?) I order MEAT for dinner in the form of this:
Filet Mignon
8 ounce, Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus, House Steak sauce

And although he's a huge lover of seafood Steve also got MEAT. The only MEAT on the menu is the filet I got so his had to be a special I don't remember but we both enjoyed our entrees.

Best of all after dinner we were given hot towels! Some of you who read my dining reports "before" CruellaNY may remember Chris's fascination with the after dinner hot towel on our first visit to Cape May Cafe for dinner:

And here is Steve performing as Chris (but not as well) at Paddlefish:

We ended up sitting and talking pretty much up until they closed. We were too full for dessert although they did give Jenny a nice piece of birthday cheesecake! We have heard some negatives about eating here but loved our meal, are glad we finally tried it and will return. So happy Jenny let us be part of her 29th birthday celebration :rolleyes1 :cake:

By the time we left nothing was really open so we walked back to where the ride shares pick up. There were so many folks waiting and the cars were lining up; they were backed up in fact and were waiting for spots to pull up to. At first we were given a 25 minute wait for our Lyft! But we got it down to 15 and it ended up being like 12 but that's the longest and largest wait/group of people we encountered anywhere waiting for rides. We went back to the resort and man the BC lobby was quiet! We walked through just to see even though we were in the villas. We were thinking of picking up a little something sweet but the BC Marketplace was closed.

Unlike this morning when I didn't have a set time we wanted to be at the park, tomorrow I did! And if you know how we like to change things up last minute, you'll be happy to know we did that a few times this trip starting with tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned!

More food pics starting with those fried green tomatoes:

Moira your secret is safe with me and if you ever want to chat offline about any of this....please know that I went through the same thing 3 years ago. Breast cancer, surgery, chemo and radiation. I'm happy to lend an ear if you ever need one.

Ok so that Paddlefish meal looks incredible...and as a seafood lover I'd definitely want to try to lobster as well as that crab guac! However I'm even more intrigued about the "best" sangria...because I do love a good sangria.

It certainly sounds like it's a good idea to avoid Disney Springs, not that I've ever been a huge fan of it anyway. It's only been the last few trips or so that we've even made it over there. It's easy when we are staying at Saratoga Springs, but being at Wilderness Lodge this trip I think we'll probably just hang around there as much as possible.

met-online-luckily-we-are-all-somewhat-normal-and-now-great-friends friends, Birthday Gal Jenny and DH Joe!
Thank goodness we didn't turn out to be psycho killers. LOL!

You are correct. That sangria was good, wasn't it!!!

We shared our apps (not forks guys, we love each other but stopped at sharing tableware. Well most of us did - I'll get to that on our last night together lol) and when the others ordered a lobster app they talked me in to trying it.
That was so funny. The look on your face was priceless.

NASTY! Nasty nasty lobster! It tasted like LOBSTER!! So if you don't like seafood do not let anyone trick you into tasting this, stick with your fried green tomatoes!
Those lobster corn dog bites were soooooo good!!!!

Best of all after dinner we were given hot towels! Some of you who read my dining reports "before" CruellaNY may remember Chris's fascination with the after dinner hot towel on our first visit to Cape May Cafe for dinner:
We were??? How could I not remember that one??? I wasn't even drunk that night...

So happy Jenny let us be part of her 29th birthday celebration
AWW! You are waaaaaay too kind. Love you and Steve!!! 😘

Paddlefish sounds really good. No offense to you but all the seafood appetizers sound delicious 😋 haha!
What a fun evening with Jen and Joe!
I hope all goes well for Ricky on his college adventures. I think Andi will be doing mostly online learning again, not her favorite.
Andi would love the hot spicy noodles you had at Skippers! She loves spicy food!

I'm a seafood lover so I would have enjoyed the the apps. DH & DD really like fried green tomatoes so they could have shared with you.

So glad you enjoyed your meal with friends (who didn't try to kill you).

The lobster corn dogs don't sound very appealing to me. Regular corn dogs don't sound good to me, either.

I'm glad that you found some fried green tomatoes. They aren't too common in the Midwest and I think I've only had them at Disney.

We weren't very impressed with Paddlefish when we ate there a few years ago. It sounds like they have gotten better since we were there.

That food looked soooo goood!! I do love both seafood and meat lol so I'd love any of those choices...and of course...good company!

It's been so long since the last trip report I've read. Just read your intro and am excited to read on. I'm sooo missing WDW.

Thank you! Always great to hear from someone who’s been there before me and totally gets what it’s like. Your kindness means a lot:hug:
The lobster corn dogs don't sound very appealing to me. Regular corn dogs don't sound good to me, either.
Now for the shocker- I’ve never had a corn dog! Lobster or otherwise! Are the non-lobster ones just corn and are hushpuppies the same thing?:confused3

@tundra1 Thank you so much! My mother used to say I “was thran “ which is an old Irish slang word for basically saying I was stubborn but more so! I’m pretty determined when I set my mind on something. She also said “I’d argue a black crow was white” but we won’t go there:rotfl:

Paddlefish looks amazing though I’d be lying if I said I’m a lover of seafood 🦞 Cod in batter or golden cutlets are about exciting as it gets for me though I am determined to try and improve on that! We were there many, many years ago (1994) when it was DTD and not Disney Springs and called The Empress Lilyboat and it was fab! Mickey was there and I had the most delicious chicken pot pie! I still remember that meal so fondly though it was 2 decades and 2 children ago! :scared1: How old am I??:rotfl:We loved it so much we went back for breakfast later the same trip and my then 4 year old daughter ordered a bowl of Froot Loops for her meal! That was it! Most expensive bowl of cereal in the history of mankind!!! Lucky for her we love her and lucky for us they comped it when they realized that was all she ate! Breakfast was a set price then and I was all for force feeding her to get value for money:rotfl2:
