Marathon Weekend 2021

“Proof of time must be provided from an officially timed race on a USATF certified course reflecting results between January 1, 2019 and September 29, 2020”

[...]

Only a USATF certified course is accepted?
I was hoping to use a time from an IAAF Gold Label marathon. As luck would have it, I did run a 10K organised by NYYR (the UAE Health Kidney) in 2019, so I could probably use that one (but that was certainly not my best run).

Good morning runDisney all-stars!

Welcome to another round of Sundays are for Disney! Let’s have an easy question this week: what is your all-time favorite Disney attraction and why?

Despite being on refurb literally every other time I’m at WDW, Splash Mountain remains my most beloved attraction. It’s a classic attraction, I love the music and the big drop and the ride photos are usually awesome. I also have a bunch of great memories associated with Splash.

Rounding out my top 5:
2. Haunted Mansion
3. Rise of the Resistance
4. Toy Story Midway Mania
5. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Have a great week, everyone!

Welcome to another round of Sundays are for Disney! Let’s have an easy question this week: what is your all-time favorite Disney attraction and why?

Going strictly on memories and childhood nostalgia, I'd have to say Space Mountain. I was there one September, and there were so few people there, one half of the ride was closed. My brother and I spent a good two hours riding almost continually before our parents finally dragged us away.

If I had to go on what I find the most enjoyable now, it's Tower of Terror. It never fails to thrill and delight me every time I'm on it, especially in the middle of the full.

My all-time favorite is Thunder Mountain. I mean, it's the wildest ride in the wilderness after all! ;) It brings back great childhood memories and I love sharing my "first" roller coaster with my own kids. Plus every time I slide from side to side it makes me laugh hysterically! And fact: it's better at night!

Welcome to another round of Sundays are for Disney! Let’s have an easy question this week: what is your all-time favorite Disney attraction and why?

I am going to give two answers. When I was a kid, it was It's a Small World. This always had to be the last ride of the day. I still feel nostalgic when riding, but the song is a bit much not that I'm in my 40s.

Today, I would probably say Space Mountain. It's a classic and still have a ton of fun on it. I will give an honorable mention to Aerosmith since I find it to be a good modern take on the Space Mountain formula.

SAFD - Tower of Terror. Hands down. I have soooooo many memories of this ride. I remember being terrified when my dad first took me on it. I remember getting in line over and over again with my cousins growing up. Today, it's still a ride I'll do back to back when there is an exceptionally short line. It's so much fun and it's always slightly different. Being on it with new riders is hilarious and the ride photos are always great. I remember "striking a pose", running to see the picture, and then running back into the line to strike a slightly different one. Amazing!

SAFD - always tough because there are so many that have special memories for different reasons. Overall favorite right now would be Rise of the Resistance. Not going to give spoilers but it is very much worth the effort to get a boarding group.

Rounding out top 5:

2. Haunted Mansion
3. Pirates of the Caribbean
4. Flight of Passage
5. Expedition Everest

My favorite WDW attraction is Tower of Terror! I love rides with a drop element (I can’t do spinning due to motion sickness) and the Twilight Zone storyline is so iconic! I remember watching the original TZ growing up. A few episodes still freak me out to this day!

Honorable mentions at DLR include Splash Mountain (I loved America Sings when I was little), Haunted Mansion Holiday, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (we called it the Runaway Train when I was a kid), and Pirates of the Caribbean.

And in a league of their own: Pirates of the Carribean in Shanghai and Journey to the Center of the Earth in Tokyo DisneySea!

Haunted Mansion is my all time favorite, but the BEST rides at any Disney park are Shanghai's Pirates and Tron, Journey at Tokyo, and Ratatouille in Paris. RotR is climbing up that list, too.

I think the bigger question is whether Oswald continues his inexplicable march up the race distances and takes the half away from Donald next year. I certainly hope not.

Team Oswald forever!!!

SAFD:

Splash Mountain-Always. It was “the ride” on my first visit in the early 90’s. My siblings and I were aware of nothing at WDW upon our first visit other than Splash Mountain. Our first day at MK there was an afternoon rain shower and we rode probably 5-10 times in a row because no one was getting in line. It’s the only vivid memory I have of that first trip.

This has a couple different dimensions for me. The first I view as a question, “if every attraction in the park had a one hour wait, what queue would I pick?” (Since this is purely hypothetical, it’s going to be exactly one hour whichever you pick) Behind Splash, I’d go:

Flight of Passage
Toy Story Mania
Kilimanjaro Safari
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Expedition Everest
Soarin’

The second considers the average wait times I’ve experienced in my trips to the park and my enjoyment vs. queue time. (I hate waiting in lines; don’t we all) Using this metric, the following are some of my favorites:

Gran Fiesta Tour (usually walk-on)
Under The Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid (usually under 10 minutes)
Haunted Mansion (15-20 minutes, my experiences may differ from others here)
Star Tours (under 15 minutes)

ETA: I don’t know how to factor nighttime shows, but Happily Ever After with a good viewing position is my favorite thing at the parks and I enjoy the Festival of Fantasy parade quite a bit as well.

My all time favorite ride is Pirates (the Disneyland Version). When I am on that ride I really feel a sense of connection to all my trips to Disney, time with my family, etc. It is pure nostalgia for me. Outside that my choices would be fun & escapism:
2. Flight of Passage
3. Soarin’ (Over California)
4. Kilimanjaro Safari
5. Rise of the Resistance

Really i just love so many of the rides, I could just go on and on - Country Bears, Thunder Mountain, People Mover, Alice in Wonderland, Space Mountain, Muppet’s, One Man’s Dream... I will stop.

I assume this can include retired attractions? I'll go number one for each park and then throw out some retired all-time favorites! I tend to like the "audience participation" attractions.
MK: Haunted Mansion
Epcot: Maelstrom [retired]
HS: Tower of Terror
AK: Kilamanjaro Safari [Especially when we saved Little Red!]

Honorable Mention [all HS/MGM retired]:
Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play It!
Superstar Television
The Great Movie Ride
