Actually the plans show the construction will extend out into the lake from the new building location, probably eliminating the walkway along the lake, extend across the bridge to the Dig Site, include an island in the lake which will require entry from the shore and re-imagineering of the main lobby area once the tower is open. Folks staying in Cabanas may have to walk all the way around the lake or take the bus to the main hub in addition to being next to the construction zone.
When considering keeping our August reservation, this was our main concern: that the walkway from Cabanas to El Centro will be gone and we'd need to walk around the lake. We decided to stick it out because we figured we could just get breakfast at Siestas and not need to walk to El Centro too often. We'll see...

The problem for all is we just don't know the timing yet. The Cabana building is being demo'd and it depends on how fast they will progress with that area, just don't know. But the email they just sent states expect alternative path routes so I would be prepared. I am hoping they will up the menu at Siestas if they can, especially for breakfast.

I got the email too. Our stay is 4/11-15. I called to see what else was available during those dates, only 1 pirate room at CBR or AKL for $600 more, or Pop for $100 less. So, I kept my ressie here at CSR. Fingers crossed that its not too bad when we go.

I would stay put too.
Pirate rooms are a downgrade and that resort is about to lose it's whole dining facility to temporary services. And that is too much for POP.
I think for months it will be walls, demo the cabana buildings and land prep. Part of what they have to do to build this tower is move the water in that area, so lots of land work.

When I wanted to move my March reservation I called and plead my case for a room at POR. They said they had nothing but after a little bit of a stern voice on my end they magically found something LOL I did have to pay about a $100 difference but for me it's worth it not to deal with construction. That's not a vacation for me.

In past they tend to stagger them so they make it hard for you to try to change your reservation. They want the hotel as full as possible, my guess is around 60 days.

Not sure how works with TA, I never use them for Disney since I stay on top of it myself.
That figures. We are staying on a bounce back offer, so it is highly unlikely that there is anything available anyway. I am going just hope that this doesn't interfere too much with our stay. I have always wanted to stay at this resort, so I hope this doesn't make it unappealing to me for future visits. On another note, when thinking about room request, would it be better to request ranchos or casitas now? I was originally liking the cabanas area (especially 8A), but now I am not sure. I wouldn't mind being on one of the first two pick-ups at the bus stops either.

Not really. As I overlay the two photos, it stays within the existing paths and roadways. And yes, when the construction gears up, walkway closures to be expected.

We will be at CSR for the first time in mid April. We have a standard room. What area would you recommend to stay?

If you want:

Best access to El Centro (food court/gift shop/restaurants) and first off/on the park buses: Casitas.
Best Access to Pool/Siestas Cantina and don't mind being further from the main food court: Ranchos.
Best combination of both pool and El Centro, but 3rd bus stop: Cabanas.

Keep in mind you can always use a park bus to get from Ranchos to El Centro because they stop at El Centro last. (2, 3, 4, then 1)

Just returned last night from a 6 night stay at CSR. Overall we had a great trip but there were a few things that make me somewhat hesitant to return.

Out of the 4 model rooms, we were "lucky" enough to get one (Casitas 4, room 4150). DH really liked it but I wasn't a big fan. The decor is too modern for my taste and doesn't seem to fit the resort at all. There is no bath tub, just a walk in shower (I know a lot of people prefer these but I really like having a tub). No carpet, just an odd colored fake wood floor. Obviously it was a model so I don't know how much of that room made it in to the final design.

Mousekeeping was not great either. They didn't replenish the coffee, cups or the bags for the ice bucket.

Also, the we were unable to turn the thermostat below 68 degrees. I have never heard of this policy at any other resort. That is just not a comfortable temperature when trying to sleep. DH was able to find a video on YouTube and figured out how to override it to get it down a few degrees, however it still always felt a little too hot and humid.

No other major complaints. Bus service was fantastic as usual. DD7 had a great time at the pool.

When I did my on line check in for my upcoming trip in March the only options were Cabanas, 1st floor, upper floor, near transportation, etc. Could not pick Casitas or Ranchos. I guess you could do it if you faxed a request in.

I'll be there in May. I've never stayed at CSR before but after checking out the maps and current construction I am going to request Casitas and hope for the best! We stay up late and sleep in so I will note on my fax that we would like to be as far away from construction as possible since even at 9 am we are likely to still be sleeping and would be bothered by the noise. Report back after your trip and let us know!

Is anyone aware if all bath tubs are being removed. I myself love a tub. Not a shower person.

The temperature thing has been going on for a few years at most of the resorts. There are many posts (if you can find them) telling you how to over-ride the air, IF it is possible.

Wondering how long of a walk it is to the Dig Site from Casitas 4 or 5? We are staying at CSR the end of March and would like to be close to the Dig Site but a manageable walk to El Centro. Was originally going to request Cabanas 8A/B but I am not sure I want to walk along a construction fence lined path.

Strange - this was the first time we've encountered it. We've stayed at CSR, POP, GF, BC, CBR and Poly within the last year and never had an issue with it.
