Reactions to construction work vary from guest to guest. If some minor inconveniences and occasional construction noise will bother you, then don't upgrade. However, if you want to stay at the Lodge and don't mind seeing camouflage fences and not having as much greenery around which to walk, then by all means upgrade. The clear majority of folks who have stayed there during construction (including my wife and me) report no serious issues at all. In fact, we stayed in the VWL building overlooking the main construction zone and had one of our better visits. The work only goes from roughly 9-5 which is the time you're mostly at the parks, anyway. With the balcony door closed, we could barely hear the noise of the cranes, backhoes, etc. during those times we were in the room. Granted, sitting on the balcony during the day, it's going to be noisy, but even then we easily could carry on a conversation. All the restaurants are open; the Mercantile is open; the main pool and kids' splash pad are open; and the boats still make their lovely runs to MK, CR, and FW. The lanterns still flicker, and the majestic music still plays. Now, the bank of elevators across the foyer from guest check in is closed, as is the whole south wing. And you can't stroll on the beach nor do the campfire activities. Still, most everything that makes WL, well, WL is still available. With fewer guests, the resort feels even more intimate which won't be the case once the construction is finished. Again, it's mostly how you feel about being in close proximity to construction. It didn't bother us, but you might have different criteria. Good luck with your decision.
