Hello Poly People!

I am getting ready to book an amazing magical deal at Poly for August 23-30, 2017. We were booked with this deal for last August but my poor father had a heart attack the day before we were supposed to leave so we had to cancel those plans. Luckily he has recovered quite well and we were even able to sneak in a short trip to Beach Club after having to cancel our longer stay at Poly so we did not end up missing our WDW trip of 2016 altogether. However, we cannot wait to finally stay at the Poly for the first time.

I will be traveling with my 8 year old son and my mother. DH has not decided if he wants to join us or not yet (he usually stays home every other trip or so especially if it's in the heat of the summer). I am considering surprising my daughter and booking a room for her and her BF for a few nights as well. She will be turning 21 in August so I thought where better to celebrate?!?

I look forward to reading through everyone's posts and to get started on the planning again!

Sounds like a great trip! Happy planning :wizard:.

Hi all! I am so excited--I just made the final payment on our October trip when we will be staying at the Poly for the first time! This is our family's second trip to WDW but our first at the Poly. It will be me (36), DH (39), DD1 (8), DD2 (6), and DD3 (2)(her first visit!) My mom will be joining us as well for a few days. I am thrilled to be staying at this resort and I have found this thread to be a wealth of information! Are there any tips or tricks for staying at the Poly that you would recommend for first time visitors with three little girls? Thanks so much!

Congrats on making your final payment. The Poly is amazing, you're going to love it! :goodvibes

Just booked an ann. trip for May 21-25. DH and I are excited to be back at the poly after our ann trip last year. Might have to make this a tradition!
Looking forward to checking out this thread again.

Hi, We have a reservation at the poly (renting DVC points) July 4-9th, yay! I've been wanting to stay here since I was a kid.

I reserved 'Ohana for 8:30 on the evening of July 4th. Was hoping for more like 6 or 7 pm but it was either 8:30 or 4 (and we will be at Universal that day, so 4 is too early). Wondering how this will work since fireworks are supposed to start at 9? Will they let us leave the table to go watch the fireworks? I don't want to miss them!! Thanks

I would be really surprised if you were seated at 8:30 despite the ADR. 'Ohana is famous for running behind time. Maybe you will be lucky and be seated just at the time of the fireworks or even after the display. In the event you are timely seated and wish to view from the GCH, let your server know that you will be returning--you won't be the only people who are moving into position to view. We have been "lucky" enough to be seated at the window seats during the fireworks display--people tend to crowd around the tables and I have even had children push to the window for a view. Good Luck especially since it is July 4!

I'll have my first stay at the Poly in October. I'm taking my mom for her first ever visit, and told her to look at the resorts online and pick which she liked the most. She picked the Polynesian :-) I told her she has good taste.

I am familiar with the resort, and I have followed along with the thread casually, but decided to go ahead and post now that I'm official!
I booked standard for now, with plans to request 3rd floor Fiji, but I'm crossing my fingers for a pin code or a good AP discount in the coming months. Depending on that, I may switch us to a club level room.

Looking forward to planning this trip and experiencing the Poly while actually staying there vs. just visiting to eat or look at holiday decorations!

Best way to get from the Polynesian to the Swan early in the morning? We need to be at the Swan by 7:30 am. How should we go about getting there?

We were very pleased with the Poly club lounge. It was a great area with a wonderful view of the Magic Kingdom. The selections were as good as any regular Marriott with the added bonus of beer and wine. The staff did a great job of keeping the food and beverage area neat and stocked, no small job over a holiday week/weekend. We were in the lounge every morning and stopped in every evening before and after dinner so we got a comprehensive overview.

Which quick service restaurants (other than Captain Cook's) will take the dining plan for QS meals or snacks? I'm wondering about the Oasis, Barefoot lounge, etc. Based on what I could find, it's just CC's for meals and Pineapple lanai for snacks. Still on the fence about buying DDP...

Oasis will take DDP, but has limited service hours for food. The hours are shorter than the bar hours.

None of the lounges or Kona Island take DDP.

Thanks. That was what I was thinking but didn't know if there was a way to use the bus or monorail. I think that may be to early for them?

This isn't practical or possible at your hour, but for the monorail you'd walk from Poly to TTC and take the Epcot line, walk through the park and exit through the Int'l Gateway in World Showcase, then walk over to Swan. This would require the monorail to be running and Epcot to be open - two things that don't fit your timing. If you needed to get to the Swan during open park hours, this would be possible, although involves a decent amount of time and walking.

Busses run that early but there's no good option from Poly really. Disney doesn't offer resort-to-resort busses, only resort-to-parks/DS. I guess you could catch a bus from Poly to HS then take the walking path to Swan. I haven't done this but it should be possible.

That's why cab/uber is pretty much your best and potentially only option. I've always found taxis readily available out front, we use them to get to PPO ADRs all the time. So much easier in the mornings when you're already scrambling to get out the door/be on time. Last thing you need is Disney transport causing you stress at that hour!
