Every longhouse has balconies on third floor, and patios on second.

The two most popular longhouses to request are Niue (1st floor) and Samoa. These can be hard to get because of the popularity of the request. Fiji has really nice views on both sides.
So maybe I can request 3rd floor samoa and see what happens ! Thanks for the info!

Samoa is beautiful but the second smallest longhouse and the most popular request. I've stayed SV several times and typically just request first or third floor since an outdoor space is my priority. If you really want a specific longhouse, Raratonga and Fiji (as someone already mentioned) have nice standard views, too. When are you staying at the Poly? I missed that part!

Honestly of all the SV rooms, there are maybe 3 with not so great views.

Poly has some of the nicest SV on property.

12/11 was a Sunday which I'm assuming was a Christmas Party night (I didn't check, but most Sundays are party nights). I thought I had read reports of music not being played this year for the parties, but not sure???

It was a party night. I was hoping this wasn't a new thing. We love watching the fireworks from the beach when we stay there.

We are going the middle of August! Isn't that a slower time at the deluxe resorts?

There really isn't a slow time at the resorts. The resorts tend to be full year-round.

Actual park volume is based less on resort bookings than on off-site visitor volume.

Oh I thought I heard they have a harder time filling the deluxes during that time of year.

As has been said - Disney enjoys some of the best hotel occupancy rates one can expect. There are no longer quiet times of the year when it comes to resorts. For example, August 2017 shows many fully booked nights already (at the non club/suite level) at a number of Deluxe resorts (e.g. try booking a 21 night stay and you'll see only the most expensive rooms are now available).

I'm not so sure "Disney has a harder time filling the resorts that time of year" is the most accurate way to describe it - as PPs have said the resorts are relatively full all year long. But you ARE right in that mid/late August is historically a lower (note, not low) overall park attendance time of year. It's super hot and many (note, not all) parts of the country are either back in school or gearing up for it (I'm in a major GA school system and my kids start the first week of August!). On the other hand there's a good chunk of the country doing their "last summer trip" so you have that as well.

I would expect resort availability in general to be a bit easier to find what you want mid/late August, but they're not going to be throwing deep discounts around at the end of the day.

As to PPs post, I just searched for a week stay 8/12-8/19 - and all Poly room/view categories are available.

Best long house to request with a standard view? Staying at the poly this summer! We usually stay in the villas side but are paying cash this time so I'm not sure what to request! We like to have the balcony! Not sure which longhouse have them! TIA!

We love Samoa as it's just steps from the GCH, both pools, Captain Cooks, and the beach. With that said, Fiji seems like a great location and gets good reviews :).

I would list your requests in order of importance. If the longhouse is priority and you want Samoa, I'd list it as "Samao, 3rd floor balcony". If 3rd floor balcony is the priority, I'd request "3rd floor balcony, Samoa". While requests are just requests and not guaranteed, if you don't get the longhouse/floor you want, you can always ask if something else is available. It's not guaranteed your room can be changed, but it never hurts to ask ;).

And to piggyback on to this question, if we need 3 rooms (ideally 2 of them connecting but I know that is just a request) I assume there is chance we could be split into different longhouses. Is the only way to "guarantee" that we'd be in the same longhouse would be to reserve Club Level?

Well, there is also the Lake View Studios. They're all in Moorea.

TPV non-Club are split between Aotearoa and Tuvalu, as are the Lagoon View non-Club. Or you could book some nice $uite$ in Tonga?

Hello Poly People!

I am getting ready to book an amazing magical deal at Poly for August 23-30, 2017. We were booked with this deal for last August but my poor father had a heart attack the day before we were supposed to leave so we had to cancel those plans. Luckily he has recovered quite well and we were even able to sneak in a short trip to Beach Club after having to cancel our longer stay at Poly so we did not end up missing our WDW trip of 2016 altogether. However, we cannot wait to finally stay at the Poly for the first time.

I will be traveling with my 8 year old son and my mother. DH has not decided if he wants to join us or not yet (he usually stays home every other trip or so especially if it's in the heat of the summer). I am considering surprising my daughter and booking a room for her and her BF for a few nights as well. She will be turning 21 in August so I thought where better to celebrate?!?

I look forward to reading through everyone's posts and to get started on the planning again!

Hi all! I am so excited--I just made the final payment on our October trip when we will be staying at the Poly for the first time! This is our family's second trip to WDW but our first at the Poly. It will be me (36), DH (39), DD1 (8), DD2 (6), and DD3 (2)(her first visit!) My mom will be joining us as well for a few days. I am thrilled to be staying at this resort and I have found this thread to be a wealth of information! Are there any tips or tricks for staying at the Poly that you would recommend for first time visitors with three little girls? Thanks so much!

So I made a payment yesterday and checked to see if my Magical Express reservations were noted. They were and they sent my my email confirmation listing everything. It even showed my requests:
1. Fiji
2. Marion 5 (marina side???)

Hmmm, Marion 5? :rotfl: I called back to ask them to update it and the lady laughed and changed it to Marina (view).

She re-sent the confirmation and requests show:
1. Fiji
2. Marina 5

I'm just going to leave it, Fiji is the most important. Hopefully they can figure out I would prefer Marina and I'm not asking for a fifth floor. ;)

We will have 7 people staying at 2 DVC studios coming up in Feb and hoping to get connecting rooms. Has anyone had any luck doing this? I am a Touring Plans member, so my plan is to use their room request to request connecting rooms. Any additional help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

They definitely piped in music when we were there over the summer. But as pp mentioned, they did not pipe in Hallowishes music this year, so likely didn't for Holiday Wishes either.
