"I want more....and I know I shouldn't" - 2 Food & Wine Festival Trips - 12/10 Complete! Goofy's/STK

Sunshine Terrace

As we left Skipper Canteen, we were leaving Magic Kingdom for the day as the crowds were entirely too much for us and it wasn’t even noon yet! While we had dessert, well we wanted more. The thought of a citrus swirl sounded really refreshing at that time! We both got one and ate it as we walked out of the park! I actually like the citrus swirl more than a dole whip since you can get it with vanilla mixed in! If they let you do dole whip swirls, maybe my opinion would change!

I remember them being available but they haven't had them for a few years it seems :( Makes me sad! I like pineapple but I like being able to break up the pineapple with a smooth vanilla sometimes! Probably something with their contract with Dole to sell the Dole Whips...yay corporate sponsorships!

Food & Wine Booths

At 3:00PM, we headed to EPCOT! We stopped by one booth to try something and we were happy with it. It was super peanut buttery so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you love peanut butter!

Popcorn Cart

After our peanut butter snack, we headed towards Figment to pick up popcorn for me! I knew I wasn’t going to eat the amount of popcorn that is given in the refillable container. I ate a little bit, just enough to close the container. I saved it all for my breakfast for the car ride home the next day! I love this popcorn!

Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It - Boozy Milkshakes

Popcorn in my purse, we headed over to Innovations to pick up our Annual Pass Tumblers (I had qualified for it earlier in the trip but we finally remembered to do it now together) We then headed to the Festival Center for our Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It that we had scheduled at 4PM. @Tankgirl and her friend were also attending this along with another lady and her daughter I know here from the Disboards (she was part of our Yachtsman group!)

As part of the center pieces, they had funny glasses as the chef that was presenting this day was known for wearing this shape for her ‘retro rad’. We had some fun wearing them.

Our host wasn’t Pam Smith which I think helped the session as the chef presenter had fun and wasn’t being railroaded. The first 15 minutes of the presentation were around the alcohol being featured this day (Mu Coffee Flavored Wine Liquors) She talked about the company (I’m not going to lie - I tuned it out as there was also candy on the table like chewy sprees and malt balls and that was more interesting) She had us taste each of the three liquors and eventually we ended up putting all of the liquors into our vanilla milkshake to make our boozy milkshake. It was boozy and thus better as booze makes everything better!

After the booze - the chef took over and started talking about her cupcakes. The chef was someone I had seen on Next Food Network Star a few years back on Alton Brown's team as Retro Rad for her theme. She brought that through today still. She showed us her recipe for the vanilla cupcakes (with liquor in) and the chocolate frosting (with liquor in it) As we were given the frosting that was already mixed - some of us got boozier frosting than others. Mine had more liquor in it as it spread a ton. My husband’s didn’t have a ton in it as it didn’t fall at all and didn’t come out smooth. I fixed my cupcake by covering the liquid frosting with sprinkles. My husband just ate his. The cupcakes were tasty and decorating was fun!

I still am not that impressed with the Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It. I don’t like the huge sale pitch they were with the liquor sponsors just for how much money the event was. I don’t mind sale pitches for events that are $25 or less but when I’m spending $49 per person - I don’t want that much of a pitch. I still had a lot of fun at this one - probably because who doesn’t like coffee liquors and cupcake decorating? We did get a photo with the chef (Emily) after the event as she was doing a book signing.

I think I recognize Emily! She has been on various cooking competitions that I watch. She's awesome!

All caught up. You meal at Skippers looks awesome. i haven't tried the soup yet, just cause I wasn't sure it could stand up to authentic pho that of course usually costs about $5 here ; )

Your boozy lunch while boozy certainly doesn't seem to be worth the $$$. $50 for some small milk shakes and a cup cakes doesn't seem quite right.

She does have a great personality! I remember watching her on Cutthroat Kitchen and Camp Cutthroat! I liked the food but it was really a lot of sugar for 4PM in the afternoon!

Well - you probably have a lot more pho options than I do! We don't really have Vietnamese around here just a lot of Chinese and Japanese options! The boozy event was just ok. I don't think we're going to do the Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It again next year (then again we probably aren't doing F&W next year anyway with Italy)

Food & Wine Booths

After the Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It - we decided to enjoy some more of the Food & Wine Festival Booths along with @Tankgirl & her friend as we made our way back to the International Gateway. After all that sugar, the four of us needed items to balance it out!

Africa

The first stop for me was Africa. I got the Buttered Chicken as I knew it would be the exact non-sugar item I would need! The chicken sauce has a bit of a kick to it and bread is always good as well. My husband had none as he was looking just for beer now.

And beer we both got! We both got the same sample of the Zitrone mix as we loved it in the sampler the day before so we figured we wouldn’t share it today! This one is way better than the Grapefruit Beer Schofferhofer makes! The lemon kick was exactly what we needed!

Brazil

As we continued along, my husband and I skipped some of the other booths but we did stop in Brazil and get some things. I had to get my Brazilian Cheese Bread! My husband wanted the Sparkling White Wine and I had the Frozen Caipirinha. I love that cheese bread. It is so cheesy and good! We like alcohol so we both like the options we had.

France

My husband didn’t want anything else so I just got items in France. I was really happy with the French Onion Soup as it was cheesy enough and oniony enough! I’ve had the sparkling kir many times over the years and it was just as good as I remembered.

After France, we left our friends as they were going to enjoy more of EPCOT and possibly eat more. We were heading back to the room and figured we would get some real dinner along the way.

Swan In Room Dining

After leaving our friends, we headed back to the hotel. My husband wanted to watch the election results come in for whatever reason. This might have made me walk even more slowly as frankly, I knew it wasn’t going to be a pretty election no matter who won. We knew we needed a real dinner but when we looked at the options at the Boardwalk Bakery, nothing spoke to us. We thought about the fried food options at the food stand or the pizza window along the boardwalk as well, but decided we should just pamper ourselves and go with room service.

I had cancelled STK the day before after realizing we would be too rushed for time after our Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It to get to Disney Springs.

Our room service order arrived in about 20 minutes - but we didn’t order anything really fancy that involved any major skills in cooking.

I went with a caesar salad with chicken as I wanted something light to make up for all the sugar from the Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It still. The salad was decent. It wasn’t as good as Il Mulino’s but I could have solved that problem if I had wanted to go downstairs (which we didn’t want to do) The chicken was well cooked and at least there was a decent amount of cheese!

My husband had the better of the dishes. He went with the club sandwich and was really happy. The bacon was crispy and the turkey was moist. He finished it all off!

The loser of this was the bread. It was rock hard despite looking like it would be tasty. At least it saved calories right?

I ignored ABC Election results as my husband watched them. I think I was asleep by 9PM.

Yeah we have them in just about every strip mall across the area. Our town in particular also has a big Korean population, so we have a lot of options.

A beer better than the grapefruit beer!!!! I must try this a once.

This looks so good. I'm a sucker for all things bread and cheese so right up my alley.

but decided we should just pamper ourselves and go with room service.
Had to giggle a little at your notion of pampering yourself then ordering a caesar salad :-)

I'm sorry the session was a huge sales pitch. I hate that. The cupcakes look good, though.

I wanted to try the butter chicken but I never was hungry enough when we passed by. I loved the Capirainia!

You room service looked decent. I would have liked the club sandwich as well.

You should! Nice and refreshing and citrus goodness!

This is why we get along so well! Bread and Cheese are so up my alley too - although their cheese balls are gluten free but once you know what you are getting, its really good as they are very traditional cheese bread bites!

Well - when we made the decision - I didn't know what I was going to order. Then we got to the room and I was like eh. I just want non-sugar. Figured I should go easy especially after the whole week!

Live & learn! No more Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It for me! I did like my cupcake though and the booze. Can't go wrong with booze either! The club sandwich was the better of the selections!

Car Ride Home - Goofy’s Candy Company

We woke up naturally at like 5:30AM. We’re just those types of people that are early risers. We finished packing up the room and checked out by 6AM. We had to stop by the gas station to fill up my husband’s vehicle so I got us some energy drinks inside while he filled up the tank. We had more than enough food options leftover from the week to snack on the car.

To keep it fair - usually one of us drives up to Disney, the other one drives back. As I drove to Disney, my husband had to drive back! This was beneficial to me as I got to relax. I also got to be the one that read out-loud the reactions to the presidential election as we had friends on both side of the fence not playing very nice that day.

When we got hungry, my husband had some Salted Peanuts and leftover Candy he had bought earlier. I had more of my wonderful cheddar cheese popcorn! I do love it but what I don’t love about it is that it dyes my fingers from all the cheesy goodness there.

To refresh my mouth, I ate the treat I had purchased at Disney Springs that Monday. I love Peppermint Chocolate and I love Marshmallows!

oxF0MoN.jpg

Peppermint Chocolate Covered Marshmallow

The ride home wasn’t too bad except for a wreck in Sarasota. The best part was getting to pick up our puppies (yes, they are almost nine - I still call them puppies) as you could tell they missed us!

At home, it was back to the real world of laundry, grocery shopping and work emails.

STK

On November 22nd, I had to head up to St. Augustine for unfortunate reasons that were previously brought up here in comments. My mother’s husband had been moved into the hospice center after falling and breaking a bone or two and cutting his head. My mother was a wreck, as she has been throughout this entire process since May but now it was much more real to her. As I left work at 2:45PM, it meant I was driving by Disney Springs around 5:45/6PM on my way up to St. Augustine. I needed food as I barely ate a lunch so perfect time to stop by and get something! We had cancelled STK during our November Wine & Dine trip so I figured it was a good choice for a solo meal for me as I had my TIW with me (since it pretty much lives in my wallet) I was able to get a reservation off of OpenTable while I was driving up.

4VIUYju.jpg

Sarasota is the bane of my existence

I parked off in the parking garage and headed to STK for my dinner. I was a little early but that wasn’t a problem and I was sat at a two top next to a large booth and another two top. I initially was annoyed. I sat for 10 minutes without a single greeting or someone visiting my table. I was not happy. I think the table next to me thought I was strange when I voiced a question about it thinking we may have the same server and wanted to know if they had issues with her. Turns out our server was different and two people out there in the world think I’m strange. Not the first and won’t be the last! (I was also aware that this dinner was going to be my last ‘me’ moment for the next few days)

When my server arrived, I placed my entire order.

I also did something nice for myself and ordered a $45 glass of Dom Perignon. What I didn’t like was that they didn’t pour the glass in front of you.

khjuBj1.jpg

Dom Perignon

The bread was topped in blue cheese butter and had a chive oil to dip it in. Being a blue cheese hater, I was creative on how to try the bread and avoid the blue cheese! I took a piece and turned it upside down and picked around! (I realize I’m a child sometimes) The bread with the chive oil was really good!

50hVUIa.jpg

Bread w/ Blue Cheese Butter & Chive Oil

I ordered a side of the parmesan truffle fries with my steak. They came out a bit different than I was expecting as they were huge fries! I had to wait for them to cool down some before I enjoyed it. I was very happy!

vZUVZTo.jpg

For my main, I went with a filet. I mean you can’t go to STK for the first time and not order steak when you are a red meat eater! The filet was really tender and I was really happy with their bearnaise!

After dinner, I stopped by the new pastry shop before leaving to get a couple nice things for my mother and I to eat despite knowing we would spend most of the next few days at hospice.

And that’s the end of Fall 2016 Disney for Dis_Yoda! In a month, I’ll be posting my trip report for Disneyland! This Disneyland trip will be a bit different as we are doing some things outside of the park such as the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, Universal Hollywood VIP tour, Steakhouse 55 Tea Party, and some other fun things!

Link for that is here: http://disboards.com/threads/that’s...ks-january-2017-rebel-challenge-more.3565065/

First, so very sorry to hear about your stepdad. Thinking of you and your mom.

Back to the food... seems like you had a great trip. I fell behind so some random comments, probably out of order... The Mix It Make It really sounded inconsistent. The one with Morimoto had rave reviews but the others sounded just meh. And was it you or someone else that said one session got souvenir bamboo cutting boards with the F&W logo as take home gifts? Why not give to every session??

Despite several trips of my own, I still missed some of the booth offerings and you have me regretting it. Particularly those cheese breads in Brazil... I just couldn't resist the pork belly... Shoulda had both!

Btw- fun to see your husband back on the carnivore bandwagon!

Blaze pizza looks phenomenal! I want to try it but gosh at this point I need a week of meals just in Disney Springs to have everything I want!

Sorry about the circumstances that brought you by STK but glad you could take a moment to treat yourself". Will you go back? Is it as loud as some people say or maybe you were there pre-DJ. Your steak and those fries look fantastic- especially those thick fries!! But service sounds iffy and not pouring the Dom in front of you seems sketchy.

Thanks again for a fun report. Looking forward to hearing about DL.

Oh man I got embarrassingly behind :rolleyes1 I really enjoyed your report though and am all caught up! I have to say - why didn't the Skipper hostess say anything to your DH about the lizard on his shirt :rotfl2:I mean, just a, "Sir, it seems one of our friendly Florida residents has hitched a ride on your shoulder" or something Disney-ish like that??? Lol so funny!

We ate at Blaze last month and enjoyed it, and I ended up ordering the same pizza you had in your room! I don't know that I'd make a trip to DS just for Blaze but would certainly eat there if I found myself down there and hungry.

I have a similar question about STK as 2xcited2sleep-was it excessively loud? The menu looks good but when it first opened I read some unfavorable reviews regarding the atmosphere and noise.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this :)
