I've read many pages of this thread but seen there's been some issues with buying Walgreen gift cards for Disney gift cards. Last month I bought a lot of Target gift cards at a discounted price through Raise.com and Cardpool but people are saying its not working anymore..?
Our trip is coming up in 2 weeks and I'd like to get more discounted gift cards. Is Walgreens still good?
I'd like to buy Walgreens gift cards but i'm running out of time. Since they will be mailed to me, i'd like to get about $400-$500 worth and then go to the store and purchase Disney cards.
Is Walgreens a for sure thing? Using a gift card to buy a gift card? Or is it risky, different stores have different policies?
I'm not doing it if its too risky. TIA!
With 2 weeks left, your options are increasingly limited.
1. Target GCs bought at a discount from Raise, Cardpool, et al., received from rewards programs or Target promotions can still be used to pay for Disney GCs
in store. You cannot use Target GCs to pay for any portion of an order containing GCs on target .com. Your order will be cancelled within minutes. This means you can no longer stack discounts by using discounted Target GCs to pay but with your REDcard set as the default to get an additional 5% discount on GCs.
ETA: In stores, you cannot and have never been able to get an additional 5% off on purchases or that portion of a purchase paid for with GCs just because you have a REDcard. Your REDcard is not a 5% off coupon that you can wave and apply to your entire purchase. In stores, a GC and your REDcard do not stack; they are two different forms of payment. You only get 5% off that amount from your purchase that actually gets charged on your REDcard. If you use a GC in conjunction with your REDcard in stores, the GC will apply first and any excess balance not covered by the GC will be charged to the REDcard, and you only get 5% off that remaining balance.
2. As you've read, it takes about a week (or possibly more) for SVM to ship a Walgreens GC order to you. Buying Walgreens GCs from SVM on eBay only makes sense if eBay is running a 10% eBay Bucks offer because SVM charges $1.99 shipping per GC, and it looks like Ebates stopped giving 1% cash back for GC purchases on eBay. So even during eBay's best promotional offer, you're only getting about an 8% rebate (delayed savings) on Walgreen's GCs, which you'll have wait about a week to receive, then drive to Walgreens to convert to Disney.
Walgreens' POS system allows it. You slide the Walgreens GCs through the credit card machine at each register (be sure of where the magnetic stripe is on the card to speed up your swipe). Wait for the green lights prompting you to swipe! I didn't have any problems converting Walgreens GCs to third-party GCs, but it seems the three issues people have reported are: (1) some of their Walgreens GCs couldn't be read even though checking with the 1-800 number showed a balance; (2) people seemed to run into problems when purchasing more than $400 worth of GCs on one or more GCs; and (3) some store managers say it is against store policy to allow GC>GC purchases, so YMMV.
3. For a better return, you might want to just buy a bunch of $50 Best Buy eGCs from PPDG on eBay, as they're running a $5 off $50 or more in GCs sale (10% in upfront savings) right now. But, as you may be aware, PPDG has its own issues with high value/high frequency/repeat purchases, and YMMV as to whether your BB store will allow GC>GC purchases.
4. The least risky approach would be to just input the Target GCs you already bought from Raise et al. into your target .com account or Target app so you can pull them up as barcodes under My GiftCards on the mobile app, go to a Target store, and use them to buy Disney GCs.
