Sistah Twistah - A January Dining Review- Updated- 6/25 - COMPLETE!!!

Love your reviews! Can't wait for the rest!
The BBQ chicken pizza is one of my favorites at WPE! The bacon wrapped meatloaf is also amazing!

We love Wolfgang Puck! We made a point to eat there this last trip, even though originally I don't even thing we were planning on going to Disney Springs :P The pizza is really yummy, and we found it and one of the pastas filling enough to split between three people!

Love the rest of your reviews, even though I've gotten quite behind in all my threads - can't wait to read the rest!

All Cathy up after being back from my two trips (Disney and Louisiana). Most of the food looks good. I'm a huge Mac n cheese fan and I do like variations so I wondered about Friar's Nook but never made it over. Glad to hear I didn't miss too much - not a huge fan of Pot a Roast or BBQ.

I've eaten at Tony's once but it was very long ago. Not sure if we will again just bc there are so many other choices!

Enjoyed all the updates!

Hello to all you fellow Disney foodies out there!
I'll now be taking a break from researching my next Disney trip (OMG!!!) and will hopefully get this dining report over with once and for all! :D

We left off after a great brunch at Wolfgang Puck Express and are on our way to T-REX for lunch!

Our ADR was for 1:00 pm. We arrived on time and were seated a little late, but that gave us time to explore the gift shop! (I swear I didn't buy anything!)
After we were seated I asked our server for an update on how many DDP credits we had left. To my surprise, I had miscalculated and only had 2 TS credits left for both of us! (B
eware the DDP during split stays!!!)
We had already gone and made ressies to both 'Ohana and Whispering Canyon, and that was besides T-Rex! Ahem. That was an embarrassing moment in front of our server... I didn't want to just up and go but we couldn't afford to "waste" our TS credits on T-REX when 'Ohana was waiting for us!
Long story short, there on the spot I cancelled our Whispering Canyon ADR ( ) and we ended up paying OOP for T-REX.
Luckily, we were still fairly full from our large brunch so I didn't feel as bad as I would have otherwise...

Before our food, some pictures of this incredible restaurant!!!!

And this is the room we sat in:

25 TREX (4).jpg

SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm such a little kid)

And now for our food:

25 TREX (6).jpg

Doublesaurus Burger - $18.99
"Two beef patties, fried onion ring, lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheese served with waffle fries"

We ordered just this one burger (ha ha- "just") and split it.
This was kind of a standard burger but it was very big and it was delicious!!! The fries were to die for and even the pickle was really really good! (Israeli pickles are VERY different..)

This is a short update but it was a great meal and I would definitely go back there again!
Oh, I read that this place was loud and it's true. If you're looking for somewhere peaceful, this isn't it. But SO COOL!!!!! :jumping1:

DS TREX (7).jpg DS TREX (8).jpg

(Sorry for the lousy pictures. Just laughed so hard at the bathroom signs!)

After our small but yummy lunch, we made our way through what was then the rest of Disney Springs. I'm a little afraid to go back there with the expansions finished. I'd get lost!
After a major shopping spree at The World of Disney, we sat down for a little dessert at that place I can never spell. That's right! Ghirrardhellii. Ghirardhelli. Ghirardeli. Ghirar%&(*#&!

Ghirardelli!!!!

26 Ghirardhelli.jpg

A warm brownie with a scoop of cookie dough. Oh Lordy!
Two excellent snack credits spent!!! (We split them if you could believe it!)

See how yummy, I mean happy, I look after some Ghirar..ice cream?

And look at the shiny new Mickey necklace I just bought!!

What an amazing food day! And it's not over yet! Dinner is at... 'Ohana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've gotten behind too! On my own thread and everyone else's! :) But I'm doing my best to catch up! So glad you're here! :D

If you're not a fan of pot roast or BBQ, stay away from that mac and cheese :-)
And you're right- there are SO many choices!!!!!

Ok, I'm on a roll here!

For dinner we made our way back to 'Ohana!!!

Yes, we loved it so much we actually made a second ADR there!
I don't have many pictures since this is the second time around and everything was basically the same, but a little bit about our experience:

We once again arrived early and were once again seated late. All in all, about 50 minutes of wait time. I love the Poly and didn't mind it too much. But it was late.
We had a much better server that time, quicker and friendlier. We were also hungrier and in general the food seemed to taste better, probably for that same reason.
Two exceptions: Our second batch of noodles was too sweet (but we managed :D ) and I felt the shrimp was better at our last meal.

The only pictures I took were of what is still considered the absolutely best thing we ate the whole trip:

27 Ohana (1).jpg

Hellooooooooooo bread pudding!

27 Ohana (2).jpg

We left 'Ohana at 11:10 pm and there was NO MONORAIL. I made the mistake of thinking that the monorail had daily hours and didn't realize it had to do with park closing time. Well, we were stuck at the Polly and had to get back to the Contemporary... I didn't even have any cash on me for a taxi! So....... we took a bus.... all the was back....... to Disney Springs....... and from there......... back to the Contemporary.
That was one long night!
Thank God our bus driver at Disney Springs felt bad for us and just sort of drove us back on our own.. without waiting for anyone else! I almost kissed him! (But I didn't. What kind of animal do you think I am??)

We're almost at the end of our trip here folks!

Tomorrow will be our last Epcot day and our last night in the World. Next up- crossing more delicious stuff off our World Showcase food list! :D

I'm absolutely determined to finish this report today! Pray for me! :faint:

It's January 27th, we're back at EPCOT!

Only QS credits left but that's ok because for lunch that day we already knew we were heading over to the World Showcase for some Mexican food at La Cantina de San Angel!!!!!

I was there for the nachos and Shira was there for the churros.

For her entree, Shira chose the tacos:

28 La Cantina de San Angel (2).jpg

Tacos de Pollo - $11.95
"Seasoned Chicken, Homemade Corn Tortillas, Mexican Rice, Refried Black Beans, and Red Salsa"

She said these were a little spicy but she liked them a lot. I also tried a bite and it was delicious!

For my entree, nachos of course:

28 La Cantina de San Angel (3).jpg

Nachos - $10.95
"Tortilla Chips topped with Ground Beef, Nacho Cheese, Tomatoes, Jalapeños, Beans, and Sour Cream"

I should have asked for the jalapenos on the side. Or asked for none at all. I ended up working hard, taking them all out :-) But they did leave just a bit of spiciness on the nachos so that was good.
I can't tell you how delicious these were!!! Wow!

For her dessert Shira chose churros (duh) and for her drink she chose.... churros! :D
We had a churros party goin' on there!

28 La Cantina de San Angel (1).jpg

For my dessert I also took the churros of course, so all together we had 3 servings of them

28 La Cantina de San Angel (4).jpg

I probably should have just drank water and taken another churros like Shira did

We really enjoyed our lunch here! TS is overrated!

As a snack later on, I just HAD to get some sushi. I can't go so long without some raw fish.

We stopped at the little stand outside the Japan pavilion. Apparently it's called
Kabuki Cafe. Who knew. :confused3

29 Kabuki Cafe (1).jpg

29 Kabuki Cafe (2).jpg

Two little servings of sushi, two snack credits. One delicious mini-meal in the rain!
Yeah, so it's not gourmet sushi. But I was desperate. And truth be told, it was not bad at all! ::yes::

Up next, a late second lunch-dinner-way-to-get-out-of-the-rain at the Electric Umbrella!!

It's late afternoon and it's pouring rain at Epcot.
I can't say we were too hungry, but we were tired and looking for somewhere dry to sit.

After eating there on one of my previous trips a few years back, I figured the Electric Umbrella was perfect for our needs!

I don't know why, but I'm very fond of the place. There's something about that big open space, maybe the glass windows looking out into Epcot... something about it makes me like it.
So there we were... too many QS credits left and only one more night to go. So we ate of course :D

30 Electric Umbrella (1).jpg

30 Electric Umbrella (6).jpg

We split one meal between us:

30 Electric Umbrella (2).jpg

French Dip Burger - $13.29
"1/3 lb Angus Burger, Brisket, Crispy Onions, and Muenster served with Apple Slices and French Fries"

Not sure what this is normally like, but it was pretty meh when we had it.
We asked for no cheese- that might have been what was missing. The "crispy onions" were almost non-existent. Oh, and according to my notes, they were nearly out of brisket so we got the very last burger that day.

30 Electric Umbrella (4).jpg

The fries were AMAZING as usual!

As our drink we decided to try something different. (Bad DeeDee! Never try anything different!)

30 Electric Umbrella (5).jpg

This was a blue raspberry slushy and it was WAY too sweet. Maybe in the summer it would be refreshing. But it was nice to have it included as a drink on the DDP.
We ended up just drinking water.

Dessert:

30 Electric Umbrella (3).jpg

This cutie is just a chocolate cupcake but so colorful!
We nibbled at it. Don't think we really ate much of it but sometimes you need just a little sweet after a meal ;)

Our last dinner is coming up at the Contempo Cafe! Stay tuned!

Ok people, last two reviews and that's it! :cool1:

After our day at Epcot, we were tired and busy packing (I bought so. much. stuff.) so we decided on a light dinner at the Contempo Cafe.

We both got soup instead of a drink:

31 Contempo Cafe (3).jpg

This was beef and barley. It was salty but good. Better than that chicken soup at Everything Pop...

For my entree I got:

31 Contempo Cafe (2).jpg

Chicken Alfredo Pasta - $11.19
"Your choice of Penne Pasta or Whole Grain Wheat Pasta topped with Parmesan and a Parmesan-crusted Breadstick"

This looked a lot better than it was. The chicken was dry and the sauce didn't really have any flavor. Meh. Shame to waste my last dinner on this...

Shira's entree:

31 Contempo Cafe (5).jpg

Beef Pot Roast - $11.99
"Served with Seasonal Vegetables, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy"

Shira liked this but I don't have any notes on it so I can't elaborate :)
As an extra snack credit she took french fries. Smart girl!

For dessert we both took this miracle:

31 Contempo Cafe (4).jpg

31 Contempo Cafe (6).jpg

Oh WOW.

31 Contempo Cafe (1).jpg

Wow.

This was sooooo good!
Very very sweet and too much if you're having a full meal but soooo good!
Shira didn't finish hers. She took it back to our room but I think I ended up eating most of it :hyper:

This dessert really helped and gave the meal a nice ending. For me the rest was disappointing.

That was our last dinner.
We had 3 QS credits left + 2 snack credits and we were leaving pretty early in the morning.
Two of our last QS credits we used on breakfast (coming up next!) and the rest we spent buying snacks to take home with us. :cool2:

ONE MORE TO GO!!!! :cheer2:

Wow! Lots of updates! Btw, I did get lost at Disney Springs on our trip two weeks ago...going to T-Rex!

Isn't the dining plan SO MUCH FOOD??

I'm not getting it next trip. Even if I spend the same or more, I'll just buy Disney gift cards with the money I would've used for the dining plan and pay oop. That way I can order what I want when I want.

It all looks good though!

OUR LAST MEAL!
At the Contempo Cafe!

As I mentioned numerous times, I'm not a breakfast person.
But when you know you're leaving WDW in just a few short hours (AND you have credits left), there's no way you leave without one last meal.

So there we were, bright and early at the Contempo Cafe, packed and ready to go.

Our meals:

32 Contempo Cafe BF (4).jpg

32 Contempo Cafe BF (5).jpg

32 Contempo Cafe BF (1).jpg

32 Contempo Cafe BF (2).jpg

32 Contempo Cafe BF (6).jpg

32 Contempo Cafe BF (3).jpg

I don't even remember what a lot of this is so forgive me for not writing much o_O

One important thing I learned when ordering a QS breakfast for the first time- it doesn't come with dessert!
We had just picked our meal as usual- entree, drink, dessert. But only when we got to the checkout did we learn that QS breakfasts are only entree and drink. Oops!

But our CM was SO friendly and as we had already chosen everything and had it on a tray, she just gave it to us! I was pretty embarrassed but was also grateful!
We could have used our snack credits on those items but she didn't even give us time to think and just said it's ok and comped us! Yay for pixie dust! :cloud9:

I barely ate anything but what I tasted was pretty good. Nothing I'd get up early for, though.

Well, that's it! Now I'd like to say a few closing words, especially since this is my first dining report.

To sum it up:

paw: After reading many, many dining reports with both good and bad reviews and now after writing my own, I can say it's mostly a matter or expectations versus reality.
I come to Disney World knowing that I'll have fun and knowing that I'll probably enjoy the food. I also come knowing that even if I don't really enjoy the food, I'll still have fun!
I'm not looking for gourmet dining and I enjoyed my QS meals just as much as my TS meals. I had a great time and so all my meals were fun too. I am thankful to have visited, I am thankful that I can afford to plan another trip in the not too far future and I am thankful for all this wonderful and varied food I got to try!

paw: If you ever do a split stay on the DDP, learn from my mistakes and keep better track of your credits! We could have had enough for all the TS meals we wanted but ended up wasting the first half of our trip on too many QS meals and didn't have enough credits left over in the end. Don't hesitate to get a printout of your credits- even every day- so you can keep track. If you're 100% planned ahead (which I don't like to be) then it'll probably be easier.

paw: DDP vs OOP: I have to say that even with my credit confusion and even though I get that some people feel they're "forced" to eat because of the plan, I still love the DDP.
Mostly I love paying ahead and not having to feel pressured to choose an item because I'm trying to save money. It does work both ways and I admit I looked at prices and felt like I "should" choose the more expensive items to get the most out of my money, but I know for a fact I would have felt worse trying to save if I hadn't paid ahead.

paw: BEST MEAL: 'Ohana wins!
Second place: I have to say the create-your-own-pasta dish at the AoA food court. The pasta at Tony's was also wonderful, but AoA was better value.
Worst meal: I'm (very very) sorry to say the pot roast mac and cheese at the Friar's Nook was my least favorite meal.

paw: Last but not least, I want to thank all of you so so much for following along, commenting and letting me feel good about myself, both for eating and for writing! :D
You're the best!
I'd have absolutely no reason to write this report if it wasn't for you!

Looking forward to my next trip and report!
(Hopefully sometime in October-November!!!!)

:jumping1: party: :disrocks: :jumping2: :dance3:

Wonderful report! Your use of snack credits was genius! I'm going to have to study the boards because my next trip is DxDP and we've planned a lot of no lunch days to do Signature Dining and yummy breakfasts, so I will definitely look to fill in the gaps with snack credits. Thanks for your tips!

Love your reports...glad you are planning a return trip! Don't forget to check deluxe rates with the the site I gave you. I got rate of $238 per night at the Poly for 5 nights...

Great finish!

Oh and I totally get what you're saying about the dining plan. I see the value in pre-paying and not worrying about what you are ordering. I'm sort of fighting myself about it for next trip but I've come to terms with the fact that I'd rather pay more (not sure that I actually will, but if so, I'm okay with it) and order exactly what I want.

But part of my issue is I have kids who eat nothing! So I don't want to pre-pay for them, even if it's $25 because they done even eat $25 worth!

I'm glad you enjoyed it though. And I've really enjoyed your report. I saw you are considering WL for part of your next stay. I'll be paying attention to your thoughts on that!

About the dining plan- I've read that you can purchase Disney gift cards for a discount if you use your Target card. If I had that option I'd definitely consider it. But since we have no Target in Israel (and even if we did, I doubt they'd sell Disney cards), I'd rather pay for the DDP. A couple of trips ago I got it for free and since then I've been hooked. But it looks like this time around I may not even have the DDP at all since at least half of my trip may be room only and you usually need a package to get it. But we'll see. :) I think your way is probably smarter, using the gift cards and not depending on the plan, but I have a psychological block :D
And by the way, the DDP is a lot of food but not too much, in my opinion. Especially if you're a breakfast eater. Now, the DxDDP would probably be too much, even for me! (But I do want to splurge on it some day!) I think it's a matter of knowing how to use your credits wisely, including or especially the ones within the meal itself. Exchanging the drink, for example. Or knowing to ask what's considered a snack item even if it doesn't say it on the menu. (And we had that quite a few times.) When are you going??
And we'll see about WL. Not sure it's the best fit for us, even without the construction ;)
Thank you so much for following along!

Oooh, the DxDDP is on my bucket list! :D Always ask about exchanging items when you eat QS. If you don't have to have soda, go for free water and use your credit on something you can take with you! And some QS places have really amazing items listed as snacks! Have fun planning!!!!!!!!! And thanks for being here!

Thank you for reminding me!! I'll check it out! :)

Yeh I have the Target red card so I can get the discounted gift cards. :)

Here in the US I was able to book the dining plan with a room only to make it a package, but I had my TA do it. I've heard you can call and do it.

We just never finished all our food. And I actually really like to eat! But, I more like to graze/snack all day instead of do big meals, so it makes more sense for me to be able to just buy a small meal, then a couple hours later get a snack and so on and so forth.

But to each, their own! Different things work for different people, right?

Regardless of WL on your next trip, I'll be watching for another TR! Our trip isn't until June 2017!
