DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Morning Men,

going to be another hot one up here once the fog burns off. This is DW's final week off as the teachers head back next week and DS heads off for his first year of high school the week after that.

DS had his final check up on his finger. Surgeon was pretty happy with his progress and I think he may be using him as a case study for an presentation he will be doing. He has been cleared to go without the splint for everything except when playing soccer, and then only as a bit of protection more than anything.

Have a good one all.

Just realized on this date in 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit my house. We were on vacation in San Fransisco when it popped up and then came ashore. What an surreal experience it was sitting in our hotel in San Fran. watching what footage they had of the damage. Lost two large Florida pines and a few smaller trees that all happened to fall perfectly to miss anything important including the house and cars. One window broke, the back fence was smashed and the carport was nowhere to be seen. Friends lost homes so we were lucky. We went without power for almost a month. I can tell you from experience Florida sucks without AC.

That must have been awful, sitting across the country and feeling helpless. You've really been through the ringer over the years.

Just tell him he shouldn't be using his hands in soccer anyway. :rotfl2:

Happy Tuesday. With 45 days until WDW vacation, I've checked out. Thankfully, I only have 1-3 projects that need to be completed before then.

He should just send IOU's like the rest of us. I mean that is all you have ever given us so I assume that is what everyone is sending.

You sent IOUs? Is that another mailbox reference? :lmao:

Glad to hear he recovered so well. Good luck to them both at school.

Yes, because at home, CJ could have fought off the hurricane with his mutant powers that control the weather. :rotfl:

His daughter could have threatened the storm with a shiv. That would do the trick.

He took a ball to the hand in a game on Saturday and went down in a heap. Pretty sure the splint saved us another trip to the hospital.

You and your reasonable explanations. They suck the fun out of everything.

I was filling in as coach on the weekend and it was pretty sick feeling running across the field to get to him. I had three things going through my mind:

  • Please don't be the finger!!
  • What will his surgeon say now?
but more importantly

  • how do I tell DW that he's probably going to be back in a cast?

Top O the Morning! Nothing major to report on around here. Am thinking of extending mine and DS SW Weekend trip next year from 5 to 6 nights just to plug a non park day in there. Since we are planning on 2 days at Studios, what's left of it, for SW Weekend initial thinking is Boardwalk which would be 90 DVC points for standard view 6 nights. However could do our home resort at AK Villas value room for 66 points? Not tight on points and will be rolling points either way but 24 less points does make ya think. Any thoughts appreciated.

As one of the newer guys around here, learned recently a couple of new tough things you have had to deal with. Cheers to you and DD on getting through some tough times.

Continued great news about the boy's repair.

I normally have a tough time and hit checkout mode about a week before a trip not 45 days.

I don't think I ever did share the x-ray of DS's finger. Just a warning, some people grimace when seeing this.

I always roll points cheap, but that is just me. I was able to get this last trip with standard view points at BWV in Spring Break & Garden View at VBR this trip. Is it just you and the Mrs in the room? Value would be plenty big enough.

Morning guys, today is the start of Operation Empty the Storage Room. This is going to be a fun couple of days. The kid meets with the shark bit guy and has an ultrasound tomorrow to make sure her spleen hasn't swollen. The X-Ray was negative so it is just to make sure everything is OK. Think they are overly cautious.

The Back to the Future movie predicted this was the year for the Cubs. So, you have that going. They still have to get thru the Cardinals and the Giants. I'm hoping to see a Royals Blue Jays series.

They also predicted they would play Miami. Bit off on that this year.

Looks like you are up CJ. You could base out of Florida but the position will require travel and is dependent on government funding.

Cool! I don't have to fill out an application or send in a resume do I? And I prefer American Airlines for the frequent flyer miles.

I didn't realize the "Dues" were so much. I might be able to spare a dole whip or a Mickey Ice Cream (It'll be tough though), but beer and bacon, I dunno.... That stuff is quite valuable! I mean I have to have my bacon wrapped bacon, smothered in bacon with a side of bacon and of course a beer or three to wash it down. :)

I guess I could spare a little bit though.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I will try to not be to stingy with the bacon and beer.

Just tell him you sent them, he has a gremlin that steals stuff out of his mailbox. Oh, and Bacon.

It was kind of surreal when it happened. Today is my birthday and I still remember the news reports on the radio that day.

Norm, happy vacation countdown. And I would have used my Petronis spell to wipe it away. Mark, that was pre-daughter so she didn't have my back. Man that was a long time ago.

We were supposed to go to a comedy club the night before it hit. She didn't want to go but I was like what the he!! are we going to be able to do about it in San Fran. We went and had a good time. We were on the first plane to land at MIA since the shutdown. The check in person felt bad for us and upgraded us to Business Class and that was sweet. My sister picked us up and it took forever to find a way through the debris to get to the house. I eventually said screw it and walked to the house while my sister and wife navigated their way to drive there.

Some things I found out:

No AC in August, in Florida sucked
Nothing to drink but warm water sucked
No water period because the pump we had at the time had no electricity sucked
Moochers and people that swarmed into the neighborhood to make a quick buck should be shot
The first Bush's FEMA Director and the state and federal response sucked

My family that lived in Broward at the time were there for us and helped a lot
The neighborhood came together to help each other out
Stripping naked to take a quick shower when it rained was kind of cool
Finding a Publix that was open (Broward county) had food and AC was nirvana
Seeing a C-5 cargo plane tree hop over your house was impressive (sprayed for Mosquitos)
The double time my wife got paid while she was stationed at the hospital for the duration was nice (she also had AC, showers and hot food)

Glad he was OK and you didn't have a frying pan slapped upside your head.

There is something to be said about staying at the BW for SW weekends but 24 points is still 24 points. Knowing me, I would splurge and stay at the BW.

Thanks. My mother always said, "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." By my nature I am a bit stoic and as a bonus, I have stories to tell.

There are so many things we'd rather face than an angry wife who is also right.

For all our technology, it's amazing how quickly we can be sent right back to the stone ages.

Just me and DS - he picked it for his HS graduation trip. Mom don't want nothing to do with it, recognizes it's a guys only trip so gave us her blessing.

Hope the all clear / all clear is given to DD. I am leaning towards BW as the walk or boat ride for two of our 4 park days will just provide a time saver.

Unless you're talking about a super hot female supermodel, that isn't anything I want you to talk about. Ever. :furious:

It would be convenient for a SWW to stay at BWV. Will you need the 24 points for the next vacation? If not, then book it.

Of course, my original plan was to save points for a 2017 HHI Spring Break vacation. Looks like it is back to the drawing board for me, but I'll have time at the office to run some numbers.

A little busy right now so just skimming while the kid's catching her breath...
I'm not a doctor but that doesn't look quite right.

Oh! And this may come as a surprise to some of you, but it's actually fairly warm in Florida this time of year.

Shocked. I tell you I'm shocked.

Morning Dads, hope all are well. Should hang a gone fishing sign here these days.

A good morning to you sir. No fishing for me today, waiting for Breast Cancer Society to come by. They are picking up a sofa bed and 6 bags of clothing from the Pirate Princess. Summer cleaning continues.

Just a moment to pop back on. Situation Normal AFU at work lately. Ended up with 3500 strawberry plants that I hadn't planned on having that I need to get planted, hops need picking and busy digging sweet potatoes from a trial while the weather is dry. Had to replant my cabbage trial twice because of heat, rain and Canada gees. 4th wettest June, wettest July and on track for a wet August as well. 3 of the wettest summers on record have been in the last 5 years since we moved here. Glad I get paid whether the crops survive or not.

Welcome new guys, prayers for those in need, congratulations to those deserving, and bacon for all once Norm sends it.

3rd week of school for us, but only the third day for SWMBO teaching. The first two weeks were reading, preparation for State Fair, spelling, keyboarding etc. Now it is grammar, civics, history and all the others as well. Teacher and pupils have not killed each other yet. Given all that happened last year, if we survive the year I will be satisfied.

Afternoon, men! Lots going on in my corner of the world.
RE-BOOKED our Fall WDW trip. It was the most fun we'll never want to do again! I'll detail that later! Upside is that Norm Hayden, Jason Mitts and I will cross paths during our trip.
40 days out from our trip and despite my meticulous detailing of our trips, I still feel overwhelmed.
We have all of our meals, FP+ and ADRs set but still wondering what I'm forgetting! I literally plan from the end of one trip to the next...so it's a lot of pressure to remember all of those tips & tricks that I was supposed to accumulate over a year's time. LOL.

Kids started back to school this Tuesday. Bittersweet for everyone. Sad for summer vacation to end but happy to see their friends. And now the chaos ensues...School, homework, soccer, gymnastics, chorus, CCD, another chorus program....all good problems to have I suppose.

I am coaching my 7 year old daughter's soccer team this year. Anyone have experience and suggest any specific skills for them to do during practice? We practice 1x week for an hour and play each Saturday. It's 4on4, all girls and no goalies until next year.

IF you are gonna rope drop SWW I think its worth the points so you can get there earlier without waiting on the but.

UMMM... somethings not quite right there just cant put my finger on it.

That last part was
unnecessary

Only farmers can complain about too much and too little rain at the same time. I feel your pain. Its always feast of famine; there is no in between.
