In 2009 I took my then 7-year-old daughter alone, just the two of us, since her college-age sister needed to stay home that year. We left home late on a Friday night (after I worked all day at the bank), and I drove all night. At 6:30 am we were checking in at Pop Century, but we were a bit too early for our room to be ready, so we headed over to Magic Kingdom extra early.
Very few people were there at that time of the morning, but there were some CMs that we were able to chat with. After a few minutes, one CM said, "Would you like to help us with something this morning?" Of course, I said that we would be happy to help--so we opened the park! Toontown was still there, so they drove us up there where we met with Mickey and about 20 other characters. We all boarded the train and rode around to the front of the park for the opening ceremony--it was truly amazing!
