Beware menu changes at LeCellier

I will be changing our ADR for the end of August. I was really looking forward to the filet that I had last November, I'll have to give one of the other signature restaurants a try I guess.... :confused3

The first bad sign was the lighted menu is gone and replaced by a short paper menu. The filet with wild mushroom risotto and truffle cream, the dish that made LeCellier famous, is history. The mushroom risotto was replaced by a pea risotto abomination for a few weeks. This week the pea risotto was replaced by an equally unappetizing spinach and bacon risotto. The truffle butter sauce is now purported to be Parmesan but was so tasteless, or overpowered by the risotto travesty that it was hard to tell. This week the bone-in ribeye was also replaced by a smaller boneless ribeye. The wait staff was obviously stressed fielding questions. If you've never been, the meat is still good and you might like it. If you have LeCellier memories, save your 2 tickets
Is this the reason why I could get reservations for november so easily 3 weeks after the 180 days window. That makes sense. I think I'll keep my reservation in a hope they get a load of complaints and it changes back.:rolleyes1

I had always wanted to eat at this restaurant and we have an upcoming trip with Free Dining. My wife told me go ahead and use 2 credits as we have never done a Signature before. After reading reviews on this and some other sites, we have decided to go to Narcoossee's for the fireworks and steak/lobster instead. It looks as if we made the correct choice.

We've heard it's going to change to an Outback Steakhouse. Don't know if that is accurate or not but heard le cellier will close and be refurbished. It will reopen as an Outback. This may be why some menu changes.

Yeah that was definitely an April Fools joke lol... :rotfl:

Agh. That stinks. :( I don't think I can easily rearrange it for our December trip. We wanted to do another signature at lunch time and the only other option is HBD which doesn't appeal to everyone.

With this I may change my Le Cellier reservation to Shula's at the Swalphin. (I can never remember which is which!)

OMG, pea risotto? Just to set the record straight - we do NOT eat that in Canada! I am so sad that Le Cellier is making all these crazy changes. The mushroom filet was one of the reasons LC was in such demand and why they upped it to a Signature. These menu changes are not good for business. Let's just hope they keep the mushroom filet at the F and W.

Wow. This is so sad. Why would they see that the restaurant was good enough, for them, to change it to signature, then change all the good offerings.
It's because they "jumped the shark" and got too big-headed over their popularity. People stopped going, now they are trying to change it up to make it have real signature offerings and they are failing.
Glad we had a chance to eat their a few times before they messed it up.

My window is coming up soon too. I am with you, I am rethinking a reservation here. The filet is my favorite and my husband's favorite is the ribeye.

I would go ahead and make the reservations and then keep an eye on the menus and reviews. It seems menus change often. It will be easier to cancel your reservation closer to your trip then to make one.

That was an April Fools joke!! definitely NOT true!!

I immediately went to see the new menu on the WDW site, and it is unchanged. I know it can take a while to make changes online, but I would think Disney would have been on it by now (at least two days later). Are we really sure that these changes have actually happened?

I am kind of on the fence about Le Cellier. My husband and I just bought a house, and we are now on a really strict budget. We already booked our Disney trip and are going forward with it, but when I hear things like this about restaurants I've made ADRs for.... it definitely concerns me. I'm sure we'd at least spend $100 at this restaurant, and that's a big chunk of change when we don't even own a kitchen table yet. :worried:

I've heard good things about Yachtsmen Steakhouse... do you think we should make the switch? I should mention that I'm a somewhat picky eater. For example, mushrooms on top of steaks will immediately get pushed to the side by me. But I do like a very nicely seasoned steak. I'm just not one for exotic flavors. That's why some of the restaurants in Epcot and around the world have not really been to my interest. I'm starting to feel like we might just be better off buying snacks around the world at Epcot instead of going to a big fancy meal... :confused3

Le Cellier was at one time my favourite restaurant at WDW. It gas really gone down hill. Was just there last week and I ordered the Caesar salad and it was terrible. It was brown and slimy and disgusting. When I asked if it was supposed to be brown the server said it was grilled then chilled for a smoky flavour. It was gross. I only go there for the cheese soup. Is there anywhere else to get it?

Also, how much do servers make generally?

It was not 2 days ago. We talked about this weeks ago. Why would anyone lie about it?

I have a reservation for November. If it's not the mushroom risotto then I will cancel. People book these reservations because they liked the food they have had there in the past and want it again. Why do they keep doing this?

I actually have NO issues with menus changing. I am of the mind set that seasonal changes are a wonderful way to keep things fresh and new.

That said, I always felt that Le Cellier was over rated. I can make a much better steak at home then what I was served there. They seem to have a heavy hand on the salt. Steak was barely edible due to it.

Yes, the Outback Steakhouse thing was an April Fools joke...which apparently sparked a lot of complaining, so it was widely believed.

It's a signature restaurant now, I think they announced when they went signature that they would be using new and seasonal ingredients at times. I realize that many want their old and familiar favorites but that's not where they are going, judging by the very act of making this restaurant a permanent signature destination.

I'm also not sure that they are failing. They did succeed in lessening the overwhelming demand for the place but that's what WDW wanted to do.

Shame that there is a change to the mushroom filet but I agree with the posters about the drop in quality over the years. First time we went in 2007 we loved it. Now we only go because it is DS first choice. (he goes for the soup and milkshake - go figure). The food is definitely not worth two credits and the desserts are poor compared to many ts never mind a signature meal).
