Here it is - the OFFICIAL 2014 READING GOAL CHALLENGE THREAD

I'd like to join.

I figure I'll goal at 100, (but I'll be honest and admit between pleasure and work I probably hit closer to 200-300 but I'm not committing to that as that will pretty much jinx me before I even start).

I don't think I can list everything I'm looking forward too. Occupational hazard as I have dozens of series that I read at any given time plus whatever I pull out to read for work.

Right at the moment I am waiting for the new J D Robb book due in Feb.

(don't let my user name or profession fool you I read 'brain candy' and I like it that way  )

Please add me to the list! My goal will be 25 books this year. Since this is my first year, I have no idea how it will go.

I always struggle to find new books and when I find a series I like, I devour them. I'm looking for some great suggestions.

I'm hoping someone in here can help me with some recommendations. I've been reading a lot of YA books (Divergent, Hunger Games, stuff like that) recently. Not to sound like a dirty bird, but does anyone know of any books that are similar, but are geared more towards adults? I'm not looking for a dystopian Fifty Shades, but hopefully you get what I mean ;)

Divergent is actually pushing the limits of YA literature. They really are supposed to hit the teen years so most authors are going to stop at that level.

This is a link to the Alex awards which are Adult books that hold appeal for YA readers so it might have some that you like. There is one by Julianna Baggett listed PURE which is a dystopian. I really liked this one, but it's an adult book more to the violence/imagery than sex. Still really interesting read.

OOPs just remembered

Just one Day by Gayle Foreman (second book about to be released, or just was released). It's not a dystopia but it is still a pretty good 'romance' that has been a big hit with adults who read YA

I'm in this year! It is nice to see I am not the only one who has a goal to read all of Dickens books this year. :goodvibes So lets set my goal at 50 and see how it goes.

I'm mostly a lurker, but I would love to join!

I'm a grad student and I do an absolutely inhumane amount of reading every year, but it's all school-related, unfortunately. I hate that I'm always feeling too tired to pick up an actual book, and I would love to tackle some classics that I've never gotten a chance to read.

I'm aiming for 20 books, with a mix of American, British and French literature (I am a native French speaker and plan on reading all books in their original language). I'm hoping this thread will keep me on track and make me accountable for honoring my commitment ;)

Updated through here.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!

And here's to a Happy New Year spent reading! pixiedust:

I'm going to go for 40 in 2014! Thanks for hosting this this thread!:thumbsup2

I am going to try 20 this year, only because I read long books and I don't want to read shorter books just to try and reach a goal. This year I read Vanity Fair and all three of the books in the Dust trilogy for example and those aren't little tiny books.

This year I am going to read 11/22/63 (already started - I'm a cheater)
World war Z
The Great Gatsby

various fiction and non-fiction selections.

I'll play. Going to shoot for 50. I don't read as much when work gets busy, but I read more when I travel and I've got a couple trips planned.

Have you read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood?

Ooh, thank you! I really appreciate the suggestions and the link. I need to build up my wish list because I always have the hardest time deciding which book to read next when I finish one!!

I would add the Vampire Academy books, if you're into paranormal at all. The romance in those is kicked up a notch from most YA, in my opinion anyway. :)

This book is technically an extension(I think of it as a bonus) of the 2013 Challenge, but I liked it so much that I wanted to go ahead and review it here for anyone else that might be interested in it for 2014.

Parasite(Parasitology book #1)
Mira Grant
A decade in the future, humanity thrives in the absence of sickness and disease.

We owe our good health to a humble parasite -- a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the Intestinal Bodyguard worm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system -- even secretes designer drugs. It's been successful beyond the scientists' wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them.

But these parasites are getting restless. They want their own lives . . . and will do anything to get them.

I LOVED this book and seriously can not wait until the next one comes out. It was a little predictable, but other parts were unexpected. I could not put this book down. I wanted answers and it did a good job of delivering them!

(I'm going to add this to the 2013 thread as well)

I would like to join this year. DS4 and I miss reading books whose subject matter isn't dinosaurs, monsters, or farm animals. I'll set a reading goal of 25 books. I love looking through everyone's suggestions!
