Target Breach.

Called to replace CC today, should have new ones in 10 days or for $15 we could have them Tuesday.
Uh, it's just before Christmas... guess they aren't concerned about us not using their card on last minute gifts? :confused3 All they have to do is look at our history to see that we use it a lot lol....

I called yesterday and Chase sent out a card no charge UPS next day. It is due later today. I called this morning for the tracking number. They should have been more accomodating to you as well. They will just lose business if they don't send cards in a timely manner.

There are 3 different types of Target cards:

Target Visa - can be used at Target for the 5% discount, and millions of other places worldwide that accept Visa. Target stopped issuing these, a while back, but there are still some in circulation.

Target REDCard - a traditional department store charge card, with traditional department store charge card interest rates. Only accepted at Target.
I didn't know the Target Visa was no longer offered (that's what I have). I had a store card years ago and they forced me into the Visa saying they were no longer offering a store card. I'd probably rather have a RED Card. Just like you said, their risk is much lower because you can only use them in one place.

Target REDCard Debit Card - a PIN-based card with the same benefits as the traditional REDCard. Over a 1 or 2-day period from the time of the initial "swipe", it debits your desginated bank account (that information is not stored on the card, or the register/store computers). All swipe tranasactions are processed through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) to your bank's ABA Routing Number/Bank Account Number, which is on file away from the stores. It, too, is only valid at Target. I'm thinking, if anything, the only problems users will have with their REDCards (non-Visa) is "if" fake cards are manufactured and swiped at not frequently-shopped Target stores far away from home (think places like Florida and NY/NJ). Otherwise, they're no good in places like Russia and Vietnam.

Thanks, I was unable to find this info elsewhere and was concerned that my underlying bank info was also compromised. Good to know that isn't the case.

I tried the website with no luck but got through on 866-852-8680 and was able to request a new card from the auto voice response system. It took a couple of tries but only about 10 mins total.

I got a new debit card at my bank today, but I'm leaving my credit cards alone. Those are easier to take care of if something happens than if someone accesses your bank account!

Smart move by Chase. That's what I would have expected any CC provider to do as it's in their own best interests imo.

My card is from USBank.

Chase did that for me too. Yesterday they told me I'd get it in 2 days, but according to UPS they are delivering it this afternoon.

Just saw the news. A lady here in Maryland just got her whole checking account wiped out. I didn't get the whole story, guess she had the Target Red Card debit? I have to wait until 4pm for the next news program!:headache:

We have AMEX and they are sending us a card overnighted, so should be receiving it today sometime. What a mess!

Our bank is now BMO Harris. This is the first time we've dealt with any fees. We've been considering a change to a different bank for a number of reasons..

Interesting that some banks only charge $15 for the same service, and that others are offering this service for no-charge.

In reality-when the dust settles, I think Target should owe me a credit.

It was stated on the news that any fees the banks incur because of this mess, they are passing it all on to Target for reimbursement. Target is going to take a really big financial hit over this. Yes, they should pay any fees the consumer incurs due to this as well, IMO.

what good is the phone number when you get a message, we can no longer process your call.

So I am missing something is there a Red Debit card that uses a pin and can directly take funds from checking account?

I thought the red card was only a credit card, and to be honest could only be used at Target. .. perhaps erroneously..

I think mine is a credit card, and I really thought I could only use it at target.. ?

Not likely, she probably used her actual debit card. It seems like the pins weren't part of the info stolen so the red debit card would be hard to use. Bank debit cards are easy to use without pins, especially on line.

Yes there is a Target Debit card. I don't know if the person on the news used one or used her regular bank debit card. I have to wait till 4p to see it again!!

If only! Target will pay something, but it will only be a fraction of the costs banks are incurring, especially as it relates to fraud. It will be hard to quantify which fraud transactions are truly a result of this, even as fraud transactions have increased millions of dollars daily after this was identified. There is some history to fines/fees paid to banks after similar scenarios, but it won't come close to covering it. Sure wish it would - then maybe my DH would have a relaxing Christmas, instead of stressing over fraud budgets!

I agree, once it is 100% confirmed an insider.. (which it will), I hope they are fined, and sued in civil court for damages. I hope it is not ohh they couldn't have known.. cause I disagree completely . .. they could have ...should have.. and were careless in security practices..
Period.

I cancelled my debit card this morning and my new one will be here next week.
Now I just need to remember to get a couple auto-payments transferred over.

I was surprised how easy the process was, Chase cancelled my card and ordered a new one in less than 5 minutes on the phone.

I've always used my debit card for purchases, and I feel a lot better now knowing the card I used at Target is cancelled, but I think I'm going to follow the advice I've been reading and use my CC for purchases from now on. At least with CC fraud you still have money in your account to pay the bills while you're fighting it.

Target needs to step up and get another phone number activated to deal with this. I have been trying to contact them since yesterday :furious:

I just wanted to say for all the Chase customers out there, that they are REALLY good about fraud detection and sending out new cards without charge. Last year I was about to leave on a 9 month trip out of the country with only my debit card (I didn't have a credit card at the time) and I got a text message at 5am on a Saturday asking if I had used my Chase card in Illinois for $200-something dollars. (within one week, 8 of my friends also had their cards compromised and had to get new ones- we think it happened at a restaurant we all went to) I called Chase right away and let them know, they had denied the transaction and cancelled my card. I told them I was leaving Monday night for almost a year, and had no other method of taking money out of the ATM abroad. They offered to send the card directly to the Dominican Republic, where I would be, but the mail system isn't the best and I didn't want to chance it getting stolen over there. I asked them to please send the card to my house as soon as possible, and that I'd have my parents send it to me somehow. Monday at 5pm, two hours before I left for the airport, we received a UPS delivery marked Urgent and my card inside. From Saturday to Monday (1 business day!) Hopefully nothing happens with my card this time around, but if it does, I know they'll handle it well! Sorry for the long post, but thought it was worth mentioning for anyone worried. These things happen often, unfortunately!

Oh no, I am on hold now and have been disconnected twice. Has anyone gotten through to Target? How long did it take you?

I wasn't even calling about my Red Card (although I have questions about that too), I was calling because they cancelled one of my orders. Yesterday I ordered a very expensive camera as my husband's big Christmas present - it had guaranteed Christmas Eve shipping. This afternoon I checked my e-mail and they had cancelled the order - they didn't call me or anything and it had no reason listed, just "there was a problem with your order." I was on my way to pick my kids up from school so I dragged them to our Target store to sort it out. They weren't much help, all she said was that I had ordered it to be shipped to a store in CT (I live in FL) so they cancelled it. I know I didn't do ship to store because I triple checked that I would get it by Christmas. After I left the counter I checked my e-mail and I still had the confirmation saying that I had ordered it shipped to my house.

I've been on the phone for almost an hour and now need to go get my other daughter from school. I decided to order the camera again with express shipping - I'm hoping it works this time. I'm nervous about the whole CT thing though - that is weird!
