For those of you that are already here, WELCOME TO GERMANY! For those on the way, safe travels. I'm not on the ABD trip, but I am a (quiet) DIS'er and podcast fan and this trip is so exciting to me even though I live over here. When the trip was first announced, I considered joining in just for the fun of it and because well, I wouldn't have to fly to get here. I'm here already. It wasn't a wise investment of our travel dollars though as I've been to all of the places you guys are going to see multiple times (we've been stationed over here in Germany and Austria for a total of 7 years now). I was hoping for a DIS meet, like the one in London, but I understand that your itinerary is packed full and doesn't allow time for that. Even though joining in didn't work out for me, I'm still super excited for all of you and will be following along. I hope our cool and damp German weather is kind to you over the next week and a half. I live down in the Alps (about an hour or so south of Munich) and we have snow on the alpine mountaintops already! When it's dry, it's beautiful in the valley though. When you visit the Mad King's Fairytale castle (Neuschwanstein), you won't be very far from me at all and will have some amazing alpine views of your own. Enjoy the alpine scenery! Take lots of pictures and I hope you fall in love with Germany the way I have!
We did the trip in July. It was an experience of a lifetime. Fell in love with the country! What gorgeous scenery! And the Bavarian pretzels alone are reason to return! ;-)

I've read your posts about your trip, SingingMom. It sounds like you had a wonderful trip in July. We had some nice, warm weather for you in July, didn't we? I was still living in Stuttgart (closer to Heidelberg) in July. We moved to Garmisch (closer to Munich and actually in Bavaria, which I love) in August and are living our dream here in the mountains.
