After we relaxed for a bit at our resort, we showered and got ready for dinner. At this point, we were still tired out from our morning at HS, and we didn't want to deal with the convoluted process of taking the bus system from our resort to MK, and then the monorail to the Polynesian. Instead, we decided to take a cab. We went out front of our resort, and the CMs at bell services called us a taxi.
Our taxi arrived in just a few minutes, and within another few minutes, we arrived at the welcome area of the Poly to hear "Aloha." Our taxi ride cost about $15.00.
A nice CM in the lobby area pointed out this hidden Mickey:
This resort is just so beautifully themed. After we checked in upstairs, we spent a few minutes gazing down at the pond and waterfall and just taking it all in:
We were seated very promptly. To start the meal off, I knew I'd want a yummy drink. Our server suggested the pina colava:
Not a lot of arm twisting required here.
DP and I split this, since I knew I'd be too full to enjoy dinner if I drank this all by myself. This was good. It's basically a pina colada with raspberry syrup. Like a pina colada but even sweeter and yummier.
The fresh raspberries on top were a nice addition.
After we ordered, we were served this loaf of bread with macadamia nut butter:
This bread is still one of the best things about eating at Kona. It is so warm, soft and delicious, and the butter is heavenly. Both are a little on the sweet side. I swear I could eat this for dessert. It's so good. We basically ate the entire loaf, and then our server asked if we wanted another one! We said no thank you, we couldn't possible eat another (but we probably could have).
For my meal, I chose the scallops:
OMG was this a good choice!
These scallops were so delicious, with a nice light sear to them and properly cooked, not over cooked at all.
I loved the seaweed salad and edamame that were served with this dish. The seaweed had the taste of yummy, lightly-flavored greens, and I was very fond of the soft, tender texture of it. I've had other seaweed in the past and found it to be very tough and chewy. The sauce on this was rich and divine, yet the dish still felt light. DP sampled the accompaniments (she doesn't like scallops though) and said she agreed with me. She found it all quite good. The toasted sesame seeds were such a nice touch; they added a nice crunch and saltiness to my meal. The portion size of this was perfect. It felt pretty light overall, so I could eat most of it and not feel stuffed.
DP ordered the noodles with tofu as her protein:
Again, this was a larger portion than the photo shows.
She loved her meal. She thought the flavors were good, and she enjoyed the tofu. In general, she felt the tofu was a little soft; we both prefer our tofu to be at least pan-fried to add a little texture to it. She ate most of this, though, which is saying a lot, especially since the tofu was so soft. I sampled it also, and the flavors were delicious. It was much more flavorful than what we'd had earlier in the week at Yak and Yeti, and it tasted a lot lighter. It wasn't heavy or oily at all, just full of flavor and yummy veggies.
In spite of the fact that we'd devoured an entire loaf of bread, that huge pina colava drink, and basically all of our entrees, we knew we had to try dessert.
Last year, we'd had the pineapple upside down cake, and it was good. This year, we decided to branch out a bit, and we ordered this:
Their version of crème brulee...yum yum!
I don't really remember what it's called, but there is a layer of chocolate on the bottom of the little crème brulee dish, then the traditional crème brulee on top (with a vanilla flavor) and then a banana which is served brulee style on the side.
We both loved this dish. It was heavenly. The light layer of chocolate in the dish was a nice addition, and the flavors went perfectly with the banana, which had a nice crunchy sugary crust to it. We ate every last bit of this.
When we finished, we took the MK monorail over to MK, and then we walked over to the resort busses. Our bus to BC arrived in just a few minutes, and we were back at BC in no time. It really was very simple.
We walked around the Boardwalk and enjoyed the beautiful Orlando sky and the dusk:
We absolutely loved our meal at Kona and can't wait to return. We enjoyed it so much we tried to return for another meal during this trip, but we simply ran out of time. Kona has been elevated to a must-do for us, with two near perfect experiences both times we have been.
