ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: June 2013

I update my Facebook usually as soon as I find something out but it takes me a little longer to write an article. I usually wait until I have some stories and info to post to write a full article. I have not finished my latest news article with some of the new info I go last week. Some of the new news coming out is more details about where Trader Sam’s will go and about the changes in theming of the resort.

There is no information that says Tahiti is closing. The only info I got said that preconstruction would start in September and that on the 7th walls would go up to start work. The walls could be out at the beach only or they could be at the beach and Tahiti or they could include Rapa Nui also. Other than the date of the 7th the rest is speculation. Even the date might change but that is the latest I was told. With the test patterns showing up in Rapa Nui I was guessing that Rapa Nui maybe converted to DVC also. Rapa Nui was used for the test rooms on the latest room design in the same location as the test patterns are showing up now and most of the time people don’t even notice it. With people being called to move resorts it seems unlikely that they are just painting Tahiti. If Tahiti was going to close for the new room design it would have been back in July. I guess we will see what is really going on in a few weeks.

It is true that much of what is going on does not even get shared with the staff out in Florida and I really don’t know how much management there knows. Most of us know when you call the resort, those people are not even at the resort. They are told even less. You know it is bad when CMs are asking me what is going on. They should be better informed even if they are told not to share with guests.

My family will be checking into Poly in 11 days!

I just have some last minute questions that I couldn't find answers to:

1. What time does Kona Island open in the morning? And they sell Kona coffee there, right?

2. Do they provide brown sugar packets or only white? I don't use white sugar in my coffee so I need to know if I should to bring my own brown sugar.

3. Does anyone know the status of the fridge situation? I am not sure if we should take the chance of ordering from Garden Grocer and then not have a fridge to store our milk, yogurt, etc. We will have a car so we could always make a quick run to a local grocery store.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kona island opens at 6:30, yes, you can get Kona blend as well as 100% French press. Yes, they have the brown sugar packets.
Enjoy!

WRT Tahiti closing, I based my comment on the info that construction walls are going up and that you've said that Tahiti will be closed (at some point) and converted to DVC. If construction is starting up, even pre-construction, it's probable that by our stay in March Tahiti will be closed. You're right though, you didn't say Tahiti is closing now (I was commenting on what our situation will likely be in the spring).

I agree CM's should be better informed. As I said in another post, at a certain point WDW could, and should share info with their guests. For example, with the reservations that are being moved to the GF, obviously there is a reason and management would have to know why. I think the guests being contacted about the upgrades should also be told why. If it's just for some issue that they are overbooked or if there is a maintenance or construction project people should be told so they can make the best decision for their party.

We had a fridge in Tokelau but my Dh took it out because he didn't think it was cool enough in the cabinet.

Oh god I hope not! My youngest just got rid of lice in June. My Dh checked the beds for bed bugs before we were allowed in the room.

Someone responded yesterday and said, from the research she did, once you get to the itchy stage, you've already had the lice for a few weeks so that means more than likely the girl had lice before she stayed at the Poly. Poor girl!! I've never had lice and hope to never get it!! The chicken pox I had as a kid were bad enough, especially since they were on my scalp!!!

I agree. I'm kind of excited to see what's going to happen and construction will not bother me in the least bit. We are booked CL in December so if construction walls are going up next month, construction may be well under way by the time we get there. If we were going in the summer or even fall, a pool closure would make me rethink staying there as we do spend a lot of time at the pool and we do love the volcano pool, but since we are there 3 days before Christmas, I'm not going to let that effect our choice. It may or may not be warm enough to swim anyway, but if it is swim weather and the pool is closed, that's fine as we'll just catch the Poly again at a later date. I'm very excited to try CL, so construction or no construction, we'll be at the Poly in December :goodvibes.

I agree! I am so anxious to see what will happen to our beautiful resort. What's that saying? Change is one of the few things you can count on?

I think that's a fantastic attitude! I can't believe we leave a week from tomorrow! Since we weren't able to stay at Poly last year, it will be that much more special to us to be back at our favorite resort, and to be back at the happiest place on Earth!

We stayed at Poly a few years ago in late November/early December. The first part of our stay was nice and warm, and the second part was down right chilly. It didn't bother dd however, she swam regardless of the temperature.

Couldn't agree more!!

Did they change the menu at Kona Island? In the past they just had the Kona Blend available. Kona Cafe has the 100% Kona served in a French press pot.

Yes I knew why you were saying that and I think you are totally right in your assumptions. I am with you on that maiapapaya. :)
I’m just trying to make it clear to everyone else that we are using the info to make an educated guess but no information says that the proposed work will include Tahiti….yet ;)

I also agree that I would want to know why when given the option to move. If it were just overbooking then why move but if it is because of construction than moving may look like a better option.

Its sort of like being asked to be bumped from a flight because it is overbooked but if they told you the wing might fall off you would be the first to take the other flight…right? Maybe a little extreme example…haha

I thought the same thing but you can order the 100% Kona press pot but it is made to order.

Can anyone give me some information on the neverland club? We are a group of 6 adults traveling with a 3 year old, I'm thinking of having her go there one night to play and have a break from the parks while we go ride rides all together. Any information would be awesome!

My girls have had lice a good handful of times, the latest being mid June and I caught it early. I think I look very often during the school year.

I had put in a request for Tokelau (Patio, East-side) for when we check-in Sept 25th and now with all this talk of construction starting in Sept. and it possibly being around Tahiti, I'm starting to worry about that choice. Oh how I wish I had a crystal ball!

We are there now and it's sushi night! I don't really like sushi though, but has anyone noticed how long the lines are? This is the line for the sushi tonight. We always see people building up there sushi like pyramids.

I love sushi and always enjoyed Mondays in the lounge! :yay: Probably isn't too difficult to build a pyramid with sushi since the serving plates are so small. :rotfl: Over the years, I have seen that queue much longer--love getting the goodies and heading upstairs to the 3rd floor for a more peaceful experience!

I hope you are enjoying your stay. :thumbsup2

Ha ha, that looks about right...Pretty much anytime we were there for breakfast or the appetizers, that's what it looked like in there.

Have a great trip :dance3:.

How exciting that you'll be there in a week......you're going to have a great time :yay:. We've only stayed at the Poly once (which was in 2007) and although we have enjoyed trying new resorts since then, I have missed the Poly and can't wait to get back there in December. It sounds like your DD really loves to swim :thumbsup2. Our last December trip was 2010 and while we were able to swim a few of the days, there were a few that were just too chilly for me but I did see others in the pool ;).

Couldn't agree more!!

I see from your ticker that you are taking your first Disney cruise in 3 weeks :boat:. We are taking our first Disney cruise in December and I would love to hear all about your experience when you get back ::yes::.

I can't help with the Neverland Club as we've never used it, but hopefully someone will be able to give you some information :).

I bet! We have seen you two in the lounge before!

Just have to say that I LOVE this analogy!! :rotfl2:

Another construction question for you...we are going in December...it sounds like work on the pool and GCH won't happen until January. I also read saw somewhere on here that they are going to do work on the Neverland Club? Do you have an info on the timing of that? We have reservations for our kids to go twice while we are there, and there's likely no way I could add them to our dinner reservations at this point (and let's be honest, I don't really want to!!!)

My kids love the Neverland club! And DH and I like our date night :). Our kids went for the first time when they were 5&7 and they ask to go every time. As long as your 3 year old is potty trained and can handle a few hours without you, it will be great. They feed the kids there, play games, have dress up Disney costumes, video games, and watch a movie later on to settle down for the evening. If you are concerned, you can take your child there about 4 pm to check it out and see if they would like it. Neverland club is the BEST kids club at Disney...and that comes from my kids, not just me!

I am not too worried. Tokelau should not be extremely affected. I'm requesting that longhouse myself for our October trip :). Honestly if it is noisy and horrid looking and completely ruins your enjoyment, tell them and they will do your best to move you.
