Hi! I am an avid Crocs wearer with Plantar Fascitis (among several other feet issues). I am looking to try some new styles of Crocs, and was wondering if any of you have worn these styles at WDW. Every year I buy TONS of Crocs b/c if I don't, I am in excruciating pain. I have been through therapy, shots, being wrapped, crutches, ultrasonic therapy (I think that's what they called it), etc...Disney kicks my butt when it comes to my feet if that makes any sense. Last year I managed to maintain my feet without much pain at WDW b/c I was prepared, unlike our 2010 trip. I wear my tennis shoes with inserts till about 4 PM every day, then switch to Crocs for the rest of the evening. Sometimes I change Crocs twice. I usually have some vicodin for if I am having a bad time and I will break it in half, and that is usually plenty. I don't use painkillers during the year at home, only at Disney.

I usually buy the regular beach Croc, and the Malindi but have found them to be no match for Disney! Last year my Crocs Capris were the best WDW shoe I had! They were amazing. I also use my off-roads when needed. I will be buying more Capris b/c if the bottom starts to wear out I am in pain, and my two pairs are starting to wear. I am looking into a couple pairs that I wanted to know if any of you PF sufferers have actually worn for a day at WDW. I think of it as shoe warfare. Have they been used in the trenches and withstood the battle that WDW wages on our feet????

Here are the styles I am considering:

http://www.crocs.com/crocs-carlie-platform-flip/11355,default,pd.html?cid=23Q&cgid=women

Carlie Platform Flip: I bought a pair of Crocbands that were similar, but I gave them to my daughter b/c the bands at the toes were different and never gave me any space. They were comfy in the heels though.

http://www.crocs.com/crocs-modi-flip/10804,default,pd.html?cid=02S&cgid=women

MODI flip: Similar to the Capris, so I may just get multiple Capris instead.

http://www.crocs.com/crocs-sexi-flip/11354,default,pd.html?cid=42Y&cgid=women

Crocs Sexi Flip: not for a full day in the parks for sure, but maybe on a date with my hubby.

http://www.crocs.com/crocs-duet/11001,default,pd.html?cid=63J&cgid=women

Crocs Duet: I liked the idea of these b/c of the afformentioned issue with wear on the bottom of my Crocs. I just didin't know if the more durable bottom makes them too hard on the feet.

http://www.crocs.com/crocs-tamaraok/OM206,default,pd.html?cid=605&cgid=women

Tamaraok:These are super cute, but again, I am concerned about how they will feel.

I will have to try them all in the store b/c most are out online anyway, but trying them on in the store is nothing like walking all day at Disney. I hope you all can help! Thanx!

Subbing. I also have problems with my feet. I will be having surgery on them when we return from our trip. I bought a pair of Patricias II today. I also ordered 3 different pairs online with 2 day delivery. When will you be going? I will report back after our trip on the 14th. I'm hoping they are comfortable. I will be wearing my tennis shoes for part of the day but would prefer sandles.

Me too! Of those you listed, I only have the Duets (I can't wear the kinds with a post btwn the toes). As you mentioned, you experience less "softness" because of the sturdy soles, but they may be just what's needed for WDW. I haven't used them in the parks yet, only the Classic, Beach and Crocbands.

Patricia II's are my favorite at-work shoe for the summer. I have them in 3 colors! I also had good luck last year with the Skylar sandal and Cleo II.

In the parks, I stop to stretch my feet against curbs or steps whenever needed, and that gets me going again. The last time I wore some super-duper New Balance, I was hobbled with serious pain! But as much as I hated to like them, Crocs were the answer to my pain. :lmao:

Good luck to both on your trips!! :goodvibes

When we went 2 years ago I wore Sketchers Flip Flops....I'll have to get the name....I had no trouble at all and have issues with PF and Mortons Neuroma.

My mom wears the Patricia II's. I have never tried them! I may have to try some on b/c they do look comfy! My recipe for no pain went like this: Band exercises EVERY morning without fail, Nike Bowman Series with Dr. Scholls' inserts and moisture wicking socks until as close to 4:00 PM as I could get, switch to either Off road Crocs or Crocs Capris, Vicodin if needed, hot tub after parks, massage and stretch in the hot tub, Iron Man muscle rub before bed. It was so much better this time around. At POR they also gave me a close room due to my issues, so that was lovely. It helped beyond measure. Good luck with your surgery! My doctor does not want to do surgery on me. He says if I can live this way with just maintenance as needed, then it is a better life than what he would have to do to try and fix the issues. I hope it works out for you! I am sure our issues are different, so I hope you are able to be healed from your surgery. Mine would be no guarantees as to whether it would help or make it worse, so it is just better for me to do what I need to so I can walk. Let us know how the Patricia's work for you, and then again once you have your surgery!

I do the same thing whereever I go! It is important to keep the achilles stretched! Glad someone has worn the Duets. I appreciate you weighing in on them. I cannot ever wear the Skylar b/c of the rocker effect. I tried the Sketchers rockers last year, and now I have a very expensive pair of shoes in a box. PF Disers recommended them like crazy, so I went and got a pair. They put me back in the ER thinking I had broken my foot. My PF went up into my ankle, and I had to go on heavy doses of steroids to try and knock it out. I was told never to wear a rocker shoe b/c it changes your gait and that can be very bad for someone with PF, not everyone experiences that, but some can. I ended up with 4 Cortisone shots in my feet, weekly visits to have my feet wrapped, I had to go back to wearing my night splint and doing my therapy exercises...Yadda, yadda. Plus I had a bad reaction to the steroids and people thought I was becoming a nutbar. This happened two months before my Disney trip, so I was freaking out! I ended up getting better though. So here I am trying to find other styles of shoes!!!

I've never tried the Cleo, and my New Balance are not my favorites, but they are ok. My Nikes were $150, which was a massive bummer, but they worked at Disney, so I guess they are worth it!

When we went 2 years ago I wore Sketchers Flip Flops....I'll have to get the name....I had no trouble at all and have issues with PF and Mortons Neuroma.
If you read my above note you can see why I am a little nervous about Sketchers. I know they aren't all the same, but I am a little "brand" nervous right now. I have PF and Morton's Neuroma too! I also have Calcaneal tubercle, calcaneal bursitis, heel spur syndrome, and my Achilles tendon is too short! It is a crapshoot trying to find cute shoes! If the Sketchers Flip Flops are not rocker shoes I would love to know the name!

Thanx everyone for posting! I thought no one had worn any of those brands! I thought I was gonna have to go it alone! Well, if nothing else, we can all support each other's process of dealing with life with PF! Maybe we should call ourselves PF anonymous!

When I had Plantar Fasciitis my doctor told me to ABSOLUTELY stay away from Crocs, flip flops and dress shoes unless I had the orthodics in them.

Sorry I know that doesn't help but it worked wonders for me.

Every doctor is different. My first doctor was an avid Crocs user and pusher, my second hates them. I flat out refused to wear them at first b/c they were ugly, and the only kind they had back then were the beach clogs and a pretty ugly flip flop. I went out and got the flip flop when he kept pushing and was all proud of myself when I went back to see him. He said "not good enough." So...I went out and bought the beach clog. I am way more comfortable in Crocs than I have ever been with inserts. The inserts rub me, and don't help me like Crocs do. So, to each their own I guess. The ONLY time Crocs don't do the job is when they wear out. Immediately I have to go buy a new pair. I was surprised how good the Crocs Capris are (the newer style of flip flops). I didn't think I would wear them much, but they ended up being my best shoe. I wouldn't suggest anything but a clog while healing from a flare-up, but when the flare has gone down, the flip flops are awesome ( I could never wear a normal flip flop though, only Crocs b/c they are crazy padded and conform to the foot when your foot heats up). Again, to each their own though. My second doctor believes that Crocs don't offer enough support, and that my New Balance with inserts are the best way to go. He doesn't feel my feet though. My New Balance I only wear b/c they look good. My Nikes are beat up, but they are fantastic. He said I needed different tennies, so I went out and bought another pair. I am not very happy with them. My Crocs are wonderful. I don't EVER walk barefoot b/c of Crocs, so I think the fact that I wear them as a slipper in the house on the advice of my first doctor has helped me so much. Hmmmm....Maybe my new insurance covers my old doctor. My last insurance didn't cover him and I was bummed!

Everyone is different, and every doctor will have a different opinion. Whichever works for the individual person is what they should stick with. If someone doesn't get relief from Crocs, but they do in a tennis shoe, then fantastic! I will say this...I finally gave into the Crocs like I said above, and it was great b/c I could wear them on the karate mat while I was having a flare-up. Now every instructor that has knee or feet issues wears them. It is very funny. It's like a club.

I am so glad you find relief from tennies. I wish I did. I would wear them more often. I honestly have to push myself to wear them that long at Disney. I had to put moleskin on the bottom of my sock b/c the inserts rubbed so much. Try getting moleskin off a sock!!!

Duets are my favorite park shoes! I don't have PF but just thought I'd chime in since they were mentioned. The sturdy bottom is what makes them so great in the parks IMO. I like the style you linked....they also have a newer duet that I haven't tried:

I don't usually wear flip flops as the toe post bugs me. In the Carlie lineup I found the T-strap Mary Janes comfy on my last trip, the heel is nice and cushy. If your feet swell by the end of the day they can seem tight across the top. I normally wear a 7 but bought an 8 in those.

I live in my crocs because my PF is so bad. I'm asking my podiatrist for surgery because I cannot take the pain any longer. I'm a very active woman and it just kills me when the pain gets so bad that it prevents me from being active.

That said, I have several pairs of crocs. The first I ever wore in WDW were the Mickey croc bands and the were awesome - ugly but awesome.

I wear mary janes to work and just bought melbourne II short vamp. I love them all. My NB sneakers with custom orthotics still cause me to have pain after a couple of hours on my feet. I don't know if it is the extra padding or what that works with the crocs but I wear them all around my house, too.

sandals by ortho heel/heal and sandals by mozquitos. These are great brands that have worked with my plantar faciitis. Check them out

When I have had flair ups with PF, I would wear tennis shoes for part of the day, and switch into Sketchers Tonup sandals. I don't for a minute think they tone anything, but they are squishy, and the rocker bottem helps a lot. Not sure if anyone uses the night braces for PF (keeps your foot flexed all night), but ultimately, that is what worked for me to make it go away. :lovestruc

The Sketchers were Outdoor Lifestyle flip flops...not the fit flops...I dont' know what is up with these but they were the most comfy! I also buy Lanco Orthotic inserts and use in New Balance Shoes that have the extra support in the sole. I could never wear Crocs for long. I'm gonna be trying Obuntu water shoes this trip since most of my PF and neuroma symptoms have calmed down... (hope they stay that way!) Also LOTS of stretching!
:cool1:

Cool! Thanx for the referral! I am always looking to see which will work best without having to spend tons of money buying and not liking.

I have Croc bands ballet flats, and they gave me terrible athlete's foot! They didn't breathe at all. I got my daughter a pair, thinking it was just me, and she got it too! We are all cleared up now, but it was rough for a couple days! One of my fellow senseis wears the beach clog in the croc bands, and she hasn't mentioned any issues. I am guessing that is b/c they have holes whereas the ballet flats have none.

Can I ask you something? Do you exercise your feet daily? Doing specific exercises without fail every morning is what heals me whenever I have a flareup. I was just curious. I would think that if it is an every day issue, not just limited to Disney, that your muscles are not being stretched enough. When I flare up, I go to the doctor and he wraps my feet so my muscles stay stretched for a week straight so they have a chance to relax and heal. I can't get my feet wet for a week, so that's rough, but worth it. I also go right to my daily band exercises before I even get out of bed, Crocs (never bare feet, I don't even put my feet down without crocs under them. My kids know never to move my crocs b/c I may need to stand up.), and my night splint. If you are interested, I can tell you what stretches I do. They should start to help you after a couple weeks of taking care of your feet.

Always glad to hear of new shoes that work well with PF! Thanx for the tip!

I can't wear toneups! Below I included a previous post by me as to why they are bad for my feet! I bought some on the basis of tons of Disers saying how great they were, and they set me so far back! I am glad they work for you, but I enjoy walking, and they mess me up!!!! I do use the night brace, but only when I have a flare. I took it with me to Disney, and it helped. Doing bands in the morning is most effective for me though. I don't have pain most days as I maintain my feet throughout the year, but when I get to Disney, it is rough!!! That's why I am always looking for solid Crocs with tons of padding that won't break down right away b/c of the concrete!!!!! Thanx for trying though!

I cannot ever wear the Skylar b/c of the rocker effect. I tried the Sketchers rockers last year, and now I have a very expensive pair of shoes in a box. I've done all the stretching and it hasn't helped. Part of it is genetics - bad feet run in my family. Part of the pain is arthritis (which they saw on my MRI). I tried PT, too.

I am so sick of suffering like this. Walking on it is bad enough but when I have to stand (such as waiting in line for rides), my feet and ankles just feel like they lock up. I've been to two podiatrists and don't feel like I've been given the help I need. I may need to look for a third.

I exercise daily because my job requires me to be at my desk or in meeting most of the time. I hate that my job is sedentary so I try to make up for that with exercise. I love to walk but the pain is so intense sometimes I can't stand it. I've begun using an elliptical and a bike to try to deaden the impact on my feet.

Sorry, this turned into a rant about my aches and pains but it's nice to talk to someone who understands what I mean.

I don't have pf, but I do have lots of problems with my heels. They hurt so bad if I do any great amount of walking. The classic crocs help me most, but when I would rather look cuter (if that's possible with crocs) I have Cleos. I absolutely love them. My feet sweat alot, but since Cleos are open my feet stay dry and are supported very well. I have had three pairs so far and I will probably buy another before our trip in March. I will say I do not like the classic flip flop, the post doesn't fit between my toes right. I like the Malindi, but can only wear for a little while due to the sweaty factor. Just a few of my opinions :flower3:

Ok, thanx for the clarification! I think the brand name of Sketchers has me a bit freaked out b/c of that episode! My New Balance are alright, so I may bring them as backups, but I don't think they will hold up well for me in Disney. I swear I should've been a podiatrist. I seem to know what works for my feet better than most doctors!!!! Glad you are doing well now. Morton's Neuroma is very frustrating. I started thinking I was wearing my shoes too small! Guess not!

I've been where you are right now. I teach karate, and I remember coming home after teaching for 8 hours and sitting down on the floor to change my daughter's diaper, and crying b/c my feet throbbed so much. I remember having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and considering crawling there b/c it hurt too much to walk. I had to force myself to walk there b/c I would not admit defeat. It was one of the hardest things I have been through in my life. It's part of the reason that getting my blackbelt was such a major hurdle. I overcame it to earn my belt. I am sorry you are in the thick of it right now. Both of the doctors I've had have told me that surgery could potentially make it worse for me, so I have had to do some serious work to get where I am right now. This morning I could feel my muscles were tight, so I did my band exercises before getting out of bed and slipping on my Crocs. I never walk without shoes, ever. I really pray you will be able to overcome this b/c it is treatable. If you would like to talk about what kinds of exercises you are doing, I can tell you what helps me, and we can compare notes. I forgot to mention I also have arthritis in my ankle and the top of my left foot. What is amazing is that I had this product called Iron Man (I am a couponer and I got it for free), so I tried it. I had been having pain from the arthritis for about a year and a half every single day. I had finally had enough, and hoped for some relief. I applied the Iron Man and went to bed. When I woke up the next day, the pain was completely gone. It was phenomenal. Periodically I will reapply, and I always take it to Disney, but for the most part, I am pain free.

I found a picture of what happened to my feet at Disney! This is me resting at Light's, Motors, Action! My feet and ankles swelled to about 3x their normal size! My toes don't normally look so gnarly! I was crazy swollen!

Man! My foot looks jacked up in this picture! My feet just get toasted in Disney. Maybe from now on I will take a day and do a pedicure to give my feet a break. They totally need some serious TLC when I get home! I baby my feet now, so this pic does not do them justice. My pedi was toast by the time I took this!!! I have no ankles, my skin is parched and dehydrated, and my toes are massive! What I do to my feet for the love of Disney!!!

Sounds like heel spurs and possible PF to me. Have you been checked? I like the Malindis for at home, but not so much at Disney. They have plenty of padding, but for some reason, not enough whilst at Disney! I have never tried the Cleos, but they didn't seem to have much padding! The classic Croc flip flop irritated me too. The Capri is amazing though! I often change from the Malindi at home when I get a bit too sweaty into the Capris!

My foot dr told me to STOP wearing Crocs. I thought I was helping myself but I was just making it worse. Crocs don't have the arch support needed for feet with PF. I too have PF and have gone through the shots and several other things. I was told to get a brand of shoes called Dansko or Buerkenstock. I bought the Dansko cause they are better looking shoes. The arch support is great. I've never worn shoes like that before. My next trip is Oct. 2012 so I will find out how well they hold up to 5 days at Disney.

Ouch, your feet look very painful there! I hope that never happens to you again. :(

I was just browsing shoebuy since they're having 20% off and noticed they have several new styles that aren't on the Crocs site yet. Some are from the "duet" line, so I'm hoping they will be as comfy as the originals. I only have an outlet nearby so I doubt they'll have new ones to see, but if you have a store nearby you might want to check them out.

I've also had good luck wearing Clarks in the past for those that prefer leather shoes. Danskos that the previous poster mentioned are comfy too.

Like I said in previous posts, every doctor is different. My first doctor loved Crocs and forced me to wear them, and my second one hates them. I will be honest, the first doctor is the one I would rather see b/c he helped me heal from my worst flare up ever. Crocs played a huge role in that. My newer doctor I only see bc my insurance wouldn't cover my old doctor, and I was having a flare up brought on by Sketchers Tone ups. Most of what he has told me has been effective, but to a lesser degree. Everyone is different, but changing from my Nikes and Crocs into the New Balance my new doctor wants me in was not helping me. When I started sneaking back to wearing my Crocs I started getting better. My feet don't lie. They feel good in Crocs, so that is what I will wear. They have to be the right ones though. The above pic was not taken after wearing crocs all day by the way. That happened while wearing tennies for several hours. I changed into my Capris b/c I couldn't stand it anymore! Then I was able to feel better. Do what works for you, and if that means listening to your doctor, then great. For me to listen to my doctor I would be in pain all the time. I think my new insurance covers my old doctor, so I will probably go back to him.

This thread is more about whether anyone has tried certain types of Crocs rather than whether Crocs should be worn at all. I think veering off course would be like a "What kind of stroller should I bring?" thread that turns into a "Your kid shouldn't be in a stroller!!! Blah, blah, blah..." thread. Not everyone will agree, and I don't think we could get our doctors to agree, so I guess I won't try! I do hope your shoes work out well for you, and I do appreciate you referring other types of shoe. I looked at the Danskos and I don't think I would ever be able to wear most of them. Plus they were crazy expensive! I am willing to spend money on my feet, but only if I am 100% sure the shoes I buy are going to work for me. I would be nervous to spend that much and have them not work. Good luck. I hope they work for you.

Cool! Thanx for the links!!!! I will for sure check them out! Yeah, my feet weren't hurting so much in that picture, but it could have been b/c I was taking Vicodin. I was severely dehydrated, and I think that played a major factor, but it has happened on both trips. The first trip I felt like my legs were gonna explode on the plane, and I got really sick, so now I wear compression hose on the plane! I am a dork.
