October 2011 Code Watch

I called today and the CM was rude about my inquiry of a pin! The CM asked if I heard of any new promotions and why I was asking. I was kind of surprised, and no pin for me!!

I had to pay today as 45 days out! Oh well, I do have free dining

I've had that happen several times. I don't ask any more.

I've had this happen also, the CM would not even check - said it was a new policy. I hung up called back and asked the CM to update our DME information - it was not on file. While speaking to her she asked if there was anything else she could help with, and asked if she could check for a pin - she gladly checked ;)

I often wonder if EVERY time we call if they don't jot a note down maybe on the account? That's what I do here, I work at a car dealership and every single time I speak to that customer whether its me calling them or vice versa I write down what we talked about for future use. So ya............. maybe they are onto us lol

Just received a 10% pin for resorts on select Sunday-Thursdays in October. Dates don't work for us though.

An interesting thing happened this morning - the Swan and Dolphin prices went down for my dates. The Dolphin price went down on both S/D and Travelocity. So I need to call and re-book my rack rate room (Backup Plan C); it went down by almost $200. The Travelocity (Backup Plan B) rate also dropped though not as much; it's now actually more expensive than the rack rate, though I have an extra 10% promo from Travelocity that makes it slightly cheaper.

Swan dropped too but only on the Travelocity rate (Backup Plan A) and only by about $25 total. If I don't get YC I'll have to think hard about how much those Queen beds are worth now.

Still waiting one more week for the GP RO. :surfweb:

Just went onto the S/D site and was able to update my existing (backup) Dolphin reservation to their new lower price. (Price dropped on Friday.) I love being able to do that online. And now i'm saving $200.

The Swan price went down too but only by $25 total. So we decided if we don't get YC we'll do Dolphin. So my backup plans have gotten simpler and cheaper.

Now we wait one more week. I think Mon, Oct 26 is about the absolute last day we're likely to see a discount. So crossing my fingers it comes this week. :surfweb:

If by some miracle a GP discount does come out can it be applied if the trip is within 45 days and paid off?

It can be "applied" if it's within 45 days and paid off. However, there needs to be discount availability for those dates. They won't be able to "apply" the code if there is no availability for the discount. In essence, it's the same as if you did not have a reservation at all, there has to be availability. If the resort is fairly booked, there may not be any room allocations for the discount. Having a reservation does not help your chances of getting a discount if/when it comes out.

Also - if things have not changed there may or may not be a charge for the reservation change. Not sure what the policies are in 2011 but in the past - if you kept the same reservation but applied the discount - there was a charge (maybe $75 - 100???) but usually your discount was worth paying the charge. Some people posted that if they upgraded their reservation to a more expensive reservation - they waived the charge.

At this point - I will gladly pay $100 to save $400! There has only been one other year we have traveled without a discount and I think the travel agent dropped the ball on that one because everyone else was able to get a discount applied to their ressie.

Due to oldest DS and DD's involvement in varsity sports - this will be the last fall break we can travel as a family before the oldest heads off to college. We have 2 rooms in value so a 25% code would get us about $200 on each room. One year they just put that credit on our room account and we used it as spending money. But - at a little over 3 weeks out, I think we are sunk !!! Oh well - making memories with fun family time that I will never be able to get back - can't put a price on that !:cloud9:

So is it silly to keep waiting for a room-only? My backup is the AP discount, and if I end up using that I'd like to upgrade my DL pass this Saturday as I will be there then (save me the hassle of not having it when I check in late at night). But I'd still prefer room only...although it seems silly to keep waiting now, right? My trip is Oct 12.

I still think one will come eventually. But will it come in time for you to use it? Hard to say. :confused3

ok wait a second here, you can apply the discount to your EXSISTING ressie ????? so there is hope of saving a few bucks IF one comes out? I'm assuming it didn't happen however there is no one on here freaking out about it. I thought there had to be availability and you had to start all over again to get it.

I'm right there with ya! Still waiting, holding out hope... we leave on Oct. 14. Surely a discount will come out soon...right?!

You are correct - to get the new discount, there must be room availability at the resort you are currently booked at. There are still hopes of saving a few bucks if something comes out BUT it is based on availability.

My experience with this has been - several times we had the existing reservation, discount came out, called WDW and they applied the discount, we kept all our things we had set up (preferred room, ground floor request, adjoining rooms, credit card info etc...) and since we were already paid in full - they just credited our room the overage and we used it as tip and spending money. I am not sure if I got a new confirmation number and it took about 5 minutes to make the change. The rollover just took a few min.

Another time the discount came out before we were paid in full and they just told me they made the modifications to our reservation and our balanced owed went down. Again - everything stayed the same and rolled over and took maybe 5 min once I got the CM on the phone. All the CM did was verify what was already in the system.

There has only been one year that a discount has come out and there was absolutely no availability for us. We were booked at Pop with a preferred, when the discount hit, the only thing open for our dates was standard at ASMu or POR. If a discount comes out AND your resort is showing availability for your dates then you should be able to get the discount applied. I know for my dates, there is very little availability so I have given up hope on anything. At least it went towards my Disney rewards on my Visa........
