The 2010 Yacht and Beach Club FAQ Thread

Getting exciting now we leave August 6th. Starting to think about what to pack and how much room to leave for souveniers. Does anybody know if they are still using the same old refillable mugs? The last ones we purchased were characters and had different color lids, red, yellow and black I think. Dh is hoping they have Beach Club Resort mugs....anybody know?

So, last Sept. we stayed at the Yacht Club and didn't just love it. We have previously stayed at the Boardwalk, and will be staying at the Beach Club this Sept. In your opinion, is there a different feel to the Beach Club? Do you like it better? We did love the level of service we received, but I guess it just felt sterile for lack of a better word. It was also crazy hot and felt like we walked forever in the sun to get back to our room from Epcot, so maybe that had something to do with it. What do you think?

I haven't stayed at either so take this with grain of salt but I have been researching and reading this thread! Most seem to think YC is a bit more formal, quiet, probably because of the convention center and the restaurants don't have character breakfast. Lobby of BC (they say) is brighter and can be louder because of Cape May Cafe. BC will get you a few minutes closer to Epcot too. But basically BC and YC are same resort; Teena always says they have some managers etc. The decor is lighter in color at BC; YC has more dark wood. I'm staying at YC in Sept for work (using the convention center) and BC in late October with my family so hopefully after that I will have more experience to back these comments!

Hope that helps!:thumbsup2

I haven't stayed at BCV, but we stayed at Kidani in May, and they were the mugs you purchased last year. I'm assuming they are the same at all resorts still.

It kind of depends on what you want. Are you at BC and want to be close to Epcot? Do you want a "full size" balcony? Do you want to be close to the lobby? If you are at YC you don't have to worry about asking for a full size balcony as those are almost guaranteed. If you give a few more specifics of what you might want, I'm sure the experts here will be more than happy to help with the wording you might want to use. They say to limit your request to one or two specific items and not to ask for any specific room numbers. If you go back and read some of the posts on this board, you might get a real flavor of what others have been looking for. Of course, the experts have been very profuse their our writings so there are lots of pages to get through, but just skim them and I'll bet you'll find what you need or just give us a few more details of what you are looking for.

we always request 2 or 3 things when we make our ressies.then at check in, I say, "PLEASE, no parking lot view. we've been driving forever and the last thing we want to see is a car!"

then they give us a room, tell us around where it is. then we usually say, "what else have you got?" this last time at BCV, they had us in a garden view room. we had requested pool view, so we nicely asked. Voila!

ame thing at POFQ. you don't HAVE to take the first room they offer you. they have to put someone in the less desirable rooms... so of course they try. some just take it. and some of us ask for better.
on Tiggerbell's trip report, she has a pic of her on the small balcony. she called it the "eva Peron" balcony

Is that why it was closed down??? My DD and I had just put our suits on, headed downstairs, and had to "hang out" in our chairs waiting for it to open again!!! I wondered what happened.

had this happen at quite a few pools ("brown outs, the lifeguards call it). It's annoying when people don't use swim diapers on their toddlers. It ruins the pool for everyone.
One of our best swim days was an afternoon when it rained, we continued to float around the lazy river as people quickly dispersed from the pool. The pool remain open as this was not an electrical storm, it was great fun!!

we were ther when you were, and we also swam in the rain>

We also have never seen as many tour groups as we noticed this year. We need a new plan for next year - either earlier in July or end of June...we shall see. They were fine, just didn't like the large numbers of people going to one attraction or their tour guide obtaining FPs in such a large number. Fortunately, undoing some of our touring plans worked out great.

Maybe we will meet another time!

Robyn - so excited for you!!! Have a simply wonderful time and hope it is magical :wizard:

before BCV, we were 2 nights at all star sports, and the big tour groups were there. they put us right in one of the 2 bldgs they were in! (granted, we requested that area at check in, but would not have if we had known.) talk about loud, rude, up late at night, did I mention rude?

Photopass help, quick!!

Thanks to all of you that responded to my first request! I finally was able to find a link to preorder my CD for $99, but not right from the Photopass site, by way of Facebook. I clicked on order, it went to the shopping cart, and is asking for all of my information, but hasn't asked me to sign in anywhere or for my card that I registered the other day. How will they know it's "me", and what card I ordered it on? Or am I thinking too much? What happens when you pre-order, anyway? When you get back from your trip does the site "know" that you pre-ordered? Sorry, I really am smart :-)))but this is all kind of making me nervous!!

The site should remember you if you've logged in under your username. I would log in, and then proceed with the link/code. When you preorder, it just stores your information for later use. It can be very confusing. Here is the link directly to the Photopass site with the offer. When you click on "Order Now" it will direct you to the login page and you should be all set. It just saves it in your cart until you are ready to actually order. http://www.disneyphotopass.com/previsitoffer.aspx

Is there a more recent Y&BC thread? I know this says 2010, but none of the pictures on the first few main info posts work :confused3 Should I just search/scan through the whole thread? Thanks!:thumbsup2

How sad is it that I only now have finished going through our photos from last year's trip? The folder just sat there on my desktop and mocked me all this time. At least going through them now certainly got DH & I excited about returning in a few months. :)

If you're interested in seeing a few photos of YC (post-refurb) & WDW during the holidays (just excuse our ugly mugs haha), here's the gallery. I think our room was 3095 or 3097, I can't recall. They are organized by date, so YC pics are sort of sprinkled throughout. I got a new DSLR and am learning how to use it, so I can't wait to take better photos in a few months!

I don't know why those pics don't work either, but here's a link to someone's wonderful pics and I know there are some more on the resort photo pages in the last week or so. Beautiful.

Thanks!! :goodvibes We're on a quest to try every resort and either YC or BC is up next ;) I can't wait!

UPDATE: We are having a DIS meet on 8/8 @ 5:45 in the BC Solarium. If anyone else would like to join in, post, & I'll add you to our list:

Disney1976
disneyfreak7
DisneyMomx7
ibcnu
jjohnson
kirbygump
LovintheLodge
Siouxi31
YCFAN

Also Teena will be joining us at 6:00

Looking forward to meeting all of you! Thanks for pulling this together.

It's a long story but I ended up at the Beach Club this past Tuesday as well as today. While I didn't stay there, it was a great teaser for our upcoming trip by just hanging out there. See you all on the 8th. Safe travels everyone.

Susan

You will LOVE either one!!! We just returned from our first trip to YC, and DH didn't even want to go and look at other resorts while we were there. As far as he is concerned, he has found his Disney "Home". The only one he would consider is BC (which to us is the same resort, just different decor). The location of these resorts is perfect, the pool area is amazing. For the first time ever, we USED the resort each day to relax and soak in the pool. We truly didn't want to leave.

Happy Choosing

Concierge level is available for our upcoming trip and assuming I could apply the 40% code I have to it (not sure if that's possible...) the cost wouldn't be too out of the question for our budget. My question is what is the CL like? Is it worth it for two people? Not sure about the food offerings as we are vegetarians... I've never stayed Concierge in my life so this would be totally new. Tell me what I'd love about it :) Also one more question - could I just decide on the day I arrive and ask then if it's possible to upgrade at the additional rate?

Can someone tell me if they still do movies on the beach at BC? We are going in October and I'd love to know. Thanks!

It all depends :) The 40% off code is available to some rooms but not all. When we first booked, we booked CL. Then we got a code and had to change to non club level to get the 40% off. We could have changed resorts but we prefer the BC. When free dining was released a lot of people changed dates. Our week is a blackout date, no free dining, so lots of people changed to a different week. Our TA was then able to switch us to a CL room with the code.

There is a CL thread so you should probably check there. Whether it is worth it or not depends on you.

I'm home. It was fantastic. Best weather I've ever had for the entire cruise. Ocean was like a lake. Couldn't even tell the ship was moving. Castaway Cay = two days of being in heaven!!!!

Starting the wash now.

Got my schedule and you all are going to be sick of me. I'm working Saturday (tomorrow), Sunday, Monday, (off Tuesday and Wednesday), then back Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I won't get my schedule past then until Wednesday. It's been a long time that I've worked that much so my poor feet and back are going to be crying!

Hope everybody is having fun that are there now and I'll see you tomorrow!!!
