ANOTHER 21 days in WDW+DXDDP=hundreds of food pics (COMPLETED 3/2!)

That brownie sundae looks incredibly! Reminds me of my favorite dessert at the Cheesecake Factory!

Ohhhh. . .that sundae looks awesome! I keep thinking I need an ADR for Plaza in my plans somewhere.

DH really enjoyed that sundae, hope you manage to fit in a visit.

That brownie sundae looks incredibly! Reminds me of my favorite dessert at the Cheesecake Factory!

It was good. I'm really disappointed we never got to try the Cheesecake factory as I always here such good things about it, may be next time.

We arrived about 50 minutes early for our reservation at Artist Point, so decided to have a drink in the adjacent lounge.

The server actually checked us into the restaurant after she took our drink orders which was nice, and she brought us menus to look at while we waited. I had a Pineapple Flambe to drink, which I really didn't like. I didn't read the drink menu properly and didn't realise the haberno lime would give it a spicy taste. Sweet and spicy together just don't do it for me and I really struggled to finish this drink. DH had a Sam Adams Octoberfest which he enjoyed.
AP_drinks.jpg

We went across to Artist Point around 7:20 and they were able to seat us immediately at a table next to the window. I really like the atmosphere in this restaurant, it's always relatively quiet, the tables are nicely spaced, and seems to attract mostly adult parties.

Service tonight just wasn't good. Our waitress took ages to greet us and bring drinks, she never seemed to be around whenever you needed anything, never came by to check on us and it took forever for her to bring the check. She wasn't even busy so there was really no excuse for such service. The server waiting on the table next to us was fantastic on the other hand, attentive to his patrons, friendly, advising them on the menu, we wished we'd been sat in his section.

I chose the Smoky Portobello soup to start. This was truly an excellent soup, really deep smoky mushroom flavour, thick, creamy and topped with chive oil and croutons which added a bit of crunch. I had a glass of Chardonnay which was the suggested pairing for this dish, and it did pair very well.
AP_soup.jpg

DH had the cheese plate. This consisted of Fiscalini Cheddar, Midnight Moon, Echo Mountain Blue, seasonal garnishs (sultanas, tomato chutney and dried cherries) and walnut toast. DH enjoyed this, he said the blue cheese paired well with the sultanas, the Midnight moon with the chutney and the cheddar went well with the cherries. He enjoyed them all but the blue cheese was his favourite. They weren't very generous with the walnut toast, only 3 tiny pieces but DH doesn't tend to eat them anyway.
AP_chs.jpg

For my entree I chose the signature dish of Cedar Plank Salmon, served with bread pudding, brocolini, red wine and browned butter sauce. The salmon was perfectly cooked medium rare, and so flavourful from being cooked on the cedar plank. The brocolini was well cooked and the bread pudding ok, but a bit dry. The whole dish could have used more sauce, but otherwise it was a very good dish. I also had the recommended wine pairing with this dish, but our server didn't bring it until well after the food arrived which was a little disappointing.
AP_salmon.jpg

The vegetarian entree here never seems to change, it's always Potato Chive Pot Stickers with edamame, spinach and soy vinaigrette. Luckily DH likes these, soft potato coated in a slightly chewy batter, on a bed of edamane and spinach. This time the edamane/spinach was so spicy, he actually couldn't eat it, but the potstickers themselves were good.
AP_potstickers.jpg

We decided to share dessert as we were full and there was nothing that really called out to me on the dessert menu. We had the Honey Rosemary Creme Brulee, this was a really small portion (we probably could have ate one each) but was very tasty. The texture was perfectly smooth, and you could really taste the rosemary, which worked better in creme brulee than I could have imagined. It was served with blueberry biscotti, which was also very good and had plenty of blueberries in it.

Overall we had a really nice meal here, that was let down slightly by the poor service. We'd definitely return though, as the food was for the most part very good.

Yummy, another batch of wonderful food porn!

The story about the annoying kids at The Plaza reminds me -
I've worked as a nanny in the States and was an au pair in France. I've also traveled to a lot of places in Europe (but never the UK). In general, I noticed that children in Europe are better behaved in public places. It seems like parents just don't take them out unless they are. The family I lived with in France had 3 and 4 year old girls and we took them out to a restaurant once in eight months. Meal times at home were very much a teaching time with children - don't play with your food, chew with your mouth closed, this is how you use a fork and knife properly, etc. I think Europeans tend to educate children about things at an earlier age.

Now, I know you were at Disney, so that kind of changes things since children are the norm rather than the exception there. I just thought it was in interesting cultural difference. It's not one of those ones that are so obvious, and it was neat to observe over a period of time.

The meal at Artist Point looks and sounds fantastic. I hadn't even thought of that as an option, sorry to hear about the made service though, especially for a signature.

Mmmm sweet salmon! I'm glad your DH liked his vegetarian entree, but potstickers kind of seems like a cop out for a signature restaurant!

I always wonder about Artist Point, but seem to chicken out at the last minute. Maybe when dh and I go, we'll try it.

Thank you very much. Not sure it's the same in the Uk (I've seen my fair share of badly behaved children dining out in England!), but we probably don't eat out as much over here as you guys do in the US. I know there are going to be lots of over-excited kids in Disneyworld and expect that to be the case, but I think it's common sense to ensure children stay in their seats when servers are carrying trays of hot food and drink around.

The meal at Artist Point looks and sounds fantastic. I hadn't even thought of that as an option, sorry to hear about the made service though, especially for a signature.

Thank you. We have always really enjoyed Artist Point, even if the service wasn't quite up to scratch this time.

Mmmm sweet salmon! I'm glad your DH liked his vegetarian entree, but potstickers kind of seems like a cop out for a signature restaurant!

The salmon was fab. Potstickers probably are a cop out, but they're not a food we really get in England which is probably why DH enjoyed them.

I always wonder about Artist Point, but seem to chicken out at the last minute. Maybe when dh and I go, we'll try it.

Hopefully you'll get to give it a try, it's a nice restaurant.

Today we were attending our only EMH of the trip at DHS. We woke up around 6ish, planning to be at the bus stop for 7. I wasn't feeling great but we'd picked up breakfast from main st bakery so I had a few bites.

We'd chosen a chocolate crossaint which was very good, flaky buttery pastry, and enough chocolate filling. We also split a chocolate bundt cake, which was very sweet, soft sponge topped with runny chocolate icing.
MSBak_breakfast.jpg

I felt even worse after breakfast and was soon sick. We considered not going to the park, but thought some fresh air might make me feel better. Due to this we were later than I wanted for EMH, but we just made rope drop and still managed to ride TSM twice.

Around 11 we stopped for a snack as I had nothing on my stomach and was feeling well enough to eat something. We shared a chocolate chip cookie which was ok, tons of chocolate chips and huge but the cookie was a bit hard (the carrot cake cookie was much better). DH also had an espresso for another snack credit.
SR_cookie.jpg

We had a 12:05 reservation at Mama Melroses. We'd eaten here once before and thought it was ok, and with the limited choices at DHS we thought we'd try it again.
We checked in at 12 and the place was packed, with a big queue for check in and tons of people waiting to be seated. Surprisingly we were seated very quickly. I like the decor in this restaurant, and the place was really busy. Our server was quite good here, she greeted us and brought drinks very quickly, and she had quite a few tables to look after.

We were given a basket of bread rolls and dipping oil to start. The rolls were good, but I would have preferred butter rather than the oil.
MM_bread.jpg

We both skipped appetisers and got flatbreads for our entrees. I had the Vine ripened tomato flatbread with basil pesto and goats cheese. It had a very thin and crispy base, spread with pesto, topped with sliced tomato and cheese. It had a very strong pesto flavour and as it lacked the usual tomato sauce base, it was a little dry. However the bites where you got some tomato and cheese were really good.
MM_pizza_goats.jpg

DH chose the four cheese flatbread with Asiago, Mozzarella, Provolone, and Gorgonzola Cheese. He said this was ok, a pretty average pizza. The base was good, it was tasty but the gorgonzola overpowered all the other cheese flavours.
MM_pizza.jpg

For dessert I had the Crema Limone, no sugar added lemon custard topped with fresh whipped cream and berries. The custard was nice and light, with a good lemon flavour, there were plenty of ripe strawberries and raspberries, and the biscotti was a little soft but still added a bit of crunch. Overall a nice dessert.
MM_lemon.jpg

DH had the Honey Hazelnut and Ricotta Cheesecake which he really liked. The ricotta cheesecake was tasty enough, but in the centre there was a honey and hazelnut flavoured cheesecake/mousse type thing which was really good. It was served with blood orange sauce which was ok, and cut through the sweetness of the cheeecake.
MM_chscake.jpg

Overall we had an nice meal here. Nothing was fantastic but everything was ok, with the desserts being better than the flatbreads. It was a very loud restaurant, but service was good and we would return.

I realised when I was writing my Mama Melroses review, I'd missed out a report on our previous trip to the Writers Stop, so I'll include it now.

While planning this trip, I kept hearing good things about the writers stop, and specifically the Carrot Cake cookie. It sounded delicious, so after our meal at Brown Derby we popped in to get one.

Nothing in the case is marked as a snack credit, but when I asked the cm she said it was pretty much all included. I got a Carrot Cake cookie and nibbled on it for the next couple of days.

I really liked this. The carrot cake was very soft, and it was filled with plenty of soft, cream cheese frosting. Delicious and a great use of a snack credit.

Tonight we were dining at Sanaa. I'd really been looking forward to eating here since I first read about it opening, we eat tons of indian food at home and I was hoping the food served here would be nearly as tasty.

We arrived early as I wanted to explore Kidani. We really liked this resort, the lobby is tiny compared to AKL but we saw tons of animals on the savannah. We checked in at 7:20, and were told they were running behind and it would be at least 20 minutes. We decided to wait in the bar, but we were paged before we could even order a drink.

We were sat at a very nice window table for four in a corner, which was dark and quiet (at first!!) The tables were nicely spaced out in this section of the restaurant, and it was a great location until the drums started. It turns out we were right under the stairs and there were african drums on the stairs that children kept playing with. It was crazy loud when they were playing, so much so that we couldn't hear each other speak. Due to this I would want to sit on the other side of the restaurant next time.

Our server was good here, she was friendly, efficient. We were greeted quickly and brought water. I ordered a Glowtini, which was very good, sweet and I liked the sugar rim.
san_glowtini.jpg

DH chose the mega berry smoothie which was really good, very thick, tons of berry flavour and not too sweet.
san_smoothie.jpg

For an appetiser we decided to try the bread service for two, 3 breads and 3 accompaniments. We chose the Naan (good), Paneer Paratha (good but much more spicy than it should be) and the Onion Kulcha (good, strong onion flavour). For the dips we chose Red Pepper Hummus (very good, thick, tasty hummus), tamarind chutney (ok, very thin sauce) and cucumber raita (good flavour, but much thicker than a raita should be).
san_breads.jpg

san_dips.jpg

We thought that would count as both our appetisers on the dxxdp, but our server informed us it only counted as one. Therefore we decided to try the Potato and Pea Samosas as well. These were good, the pastry was very thick, but the filling was tasty and spicy, and went well with the mango chutney dip which was tasty, but very different to mango chutney we get over here.
san_samosas.jpg

For my entree I decided to try the slow cooked in gravy options, and chose the Chicken with red curry sauce and the Paneer cheese and spinach from the vegetarian selection. The paneer cheese and spinach was ok, the cheese was tasty but the spinach was way too spicy for me. The red curry chicken on the other hand wasn't spicy at all, the chicken was tasty enough but the curry was a bit bland. The rice was nicely cooked but I was too full from the appetisers to eat much of it.
san_veggie.jpg

DH chose from the Vegetarian Sampler. Incidentally I was really happy to see they had replaced the original veggie option (the dum biryani) as although DH loves biryani, I hadn't seen one good review of this. As I was getting the Paneer and spinach, DH picked the other two options, Stewed Lentils and Spicy Cauliflower. The cauliflower was served with onions, tomatoes and mint and was indeed spicy, but just at the right level for DH. The stewed lentils were similar to a lentil dahl, but not pureed and a little bland. Again his rice was well cooked and overall he enjoyed this entree (the Spicy cauliflower being his favourite dish).
san_chicken.jpg

We were both pretty full by the time it came to dessert so decided to share the dessert sampler. This consisted of Chai Cream, Flourless Chocolate cake and Passion Fruit Kulfi. The chai cream was the winner of the three, a very good, thick cream with enough chai flavour. The chocolate cake was ok but nothing spectacular but the coulis it was served with was tasty. The kulfi tasted like a passion fruit sorbet with strawberry sauce, again ok but nothing amazing.
san_dessert.jpg

I decided to get a Painted Lemur to go with dessert. Amarula Fruit Cream Liqueur and Van der Hum Tangerine Liqueur combined in a chocolate striped glass inspired by the distinctive striped tail of the Madagascar Lemur. This was really good, very sweet but quite a fruity flavour.
san_zebra.jpg

Overall we thought this was a nice restaurant and good value for 1 TS credit. Service was good, and aside from the entrees arriving before we had finished the bread service, we didn't feel rushed. I felt the food was tasty, but not very authentic compared to what we get in Britain (or what DH has eaten on his visit to India), but it's nice to have something a bit different on Disney property and we'd definitely return.

I am glad to see you enjoyed Sanaa. We went there too in early September and really enjoyed it. The Chai Creme was a big hit and I had the roasted cauliflower which was to die for!
Thank you for your reviews and ............ keep them coming!!

I really liked the breads too, something a bit different from the standard WDW restaurant offerings.

Loved the review of Sanaa. I'll be there in less than 2 weeks so this got me really excited!

Thank you. Enjoy your trip and I hope you enjoy Sanaa.

This looks so yummy! Will have to pick one up on our next trip!
