My family and I have been planning our trip for over a year now. We are going this June (just 6 weeks away.) I've been working on my weight loss and have lost 60 lbs but am still considerably over weight. I'm tall (5'11") so i have that in my favor, but I'm still close to a 28-30W in clothes. Will I be able to fit on the rides? All the kids and husband are getting excited, but I can't help but be leary on the embarrassment if I can't fit on the rides. If anyone has any information on this, I would greatly appreciate it! Luckily I still have 6 weeks to continue my weight loss and hope to lose at least another 20 lbs by then.

Can Overweight People Ride the Rides?

Yes.

The attractions are very accommodating to all guests.

Disney is better in this regard than any other theme park.

:welcome: to the DISboards, teresalindsey!

you WILL be able to ride many, many rides at WDW -- check out this article, lots of great info on here, click on the info listed on the side of that page, like the ride photos to get an idea what they'll be like in advance, and the at large trip reports are great, too:

my #1 tip for extra-Pooh-sized people: pull the seat belt out all the way & hold it; then sit down on the edge of the seat & grab the plug-in end with your other hand. Slide back into the seat & plug in your seat belt. works like a charm, and saves bruising on "contoured" or "fitted" seats...and no problems with finding or stretching out seat belt once you're seated (that can be a nightmare!)

And congrats on losing 60 lbs. That's quite an accomplishment!

YES YES YES! You will be fine! Might be a tad tight on the teacups and Dumbo and Astro Orbiter, and some of the old turnstiles can be snug (like HM) so turn sideways. Pull out the seatbelt all the way before fastening on things like Text Track and Star Tours and Dinosaur, Soarin', Tot...I did have issues with Space Mountain but if you are healthy you should be ok there too. I am not...I have arthritis and one knee barely bends and that is not a good combination for SM but it is closed anyway ;)

I ride everything but teacups and Dumbo and Astro Orbiter (never brave enough to attempt in case of embarrassment). As mentioned before SM was an issue. Have never seen the treehouse as I cannot climb stairs very well. Everest is fine, Splash, BTMRR...go and HAVE FUN!

Some really great info for Pooh sized people is here: WDW at Large http://allears.net/tp/ridsiz.htm

Absolutely! I am pooh-sized and DH is even a bigger pooh-size and we rode everything fine (including the tea cups!). The only thing DH could not ride was at DQ - the roller coaster simulator. No worries mate, you'll be fine! :woohoo:

I would think you would be fine. I am 5'4" and a 26-28 and had no problems at all on anything that I rode. Some seats were tight, but I fit everywhere with at least a little room to spare. My biggest problem believe it or not was the leg room in the boats on IASM. I don't know how tall people ride that ride!!!

If you can ride thunder mountian you should more than fit into dumbo with NO problem. It was not a tight squeeeze at all for me. I refuse to ride the teacups not because of size, but because rides that spin like that make me sick every time so I can't tell you for sure on that one. We didn't do astro orbiter last time due to my fear of heights, but I think I am going to try it this time.

Hi. I'm probably close to your size. The leg room can sometimes be tricky, but usually nothing is a problem. I had a little trouble getting on and off It's a Small World because of my arthritis, and I had to cross my legs sort-of under me.

I always attach a turnstyle from the side, even if it looks wide enough. Then nothing gets caught like a pocket or a camera bag.

Relax and enjoy - you'll be more than fine!

Congrats on losing the 60lbs, keep up the good work! DON'T WORRY!!!!

Like others have said, Disney is the best when it comes to accomodating ride vehicles.

So stop worrying and start planning how much fun you're going to have!

REALLY! Thank you! We ride Thunder all the time! Cool to know! Maybe I will give Dumbo a shot next week!

When I was a kid I would ride the spinning rides over and over, but it has been many years. Not sure if I would love the teacups as much as I did when I was little or not. Mission Space orange doesn't bother me at all, but then I can't see the spinning. ;)

Yes, you will be fine.

The only ride I would be worried about is Astro Orbiter. They tend to make people ride that ride 2 or 3 to seat. Last week, they had me and my two sons squeeze into one of those seats and I didn't think we were going to make it. I am 5'5" and am in a 20/22 and would have been fine if it was just 1 kid with me, but when they made us put all 3 of us in one it was not good. We finally figured it out, but not without a couple of attempts. When you get to the CM who asks how many is in your group, ask to sit by yourself and you will be fine.

I'm 6' 3", roughly 350 pounds, and I could ride everything I wanted to. I had more trouble with "leg room" than "body room", on the whole.

Thank God!!!! :banana:I am so glad that you posted this. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I have been stressed out about this for a while now. I did not want to get there and get embarrassed after waiting in the line for so long to ride, then be turned away.

Thank you for all the replies. It's making me feel a little more at ease. Leg room has always been an issue in roller coasters; just have to fold up those legs. LOL Let's hope Dumbo is doable, because I'll probably be stuck with our 3 year old one of the days so the boys can go ride the COOL rides with dad :) Thanks again!

We rode everything. On Dumbo be mindful of riding it with another heavy person. If there is too much weight, sometimes the Dumbo won't go up and down. I read about a Mom who was riding with teen and toddler and the dumbo wouldn't go up and down. The CM took the teen off, put her in another car, and everything worked fine. I rode with my son and my husband rode by himself! No problems. Remember the seat belt trick esp at fast track and dinousaur. My husband could also not ride the roller coaster simulator at Disney Quest. Disney is the most friendly park for chubby folk. I had to get off a rollercoaster at Silver Dollar City. I had to walk past everyone!!:scared1:I called it my walk of shame. I swore I would never do that again.

I'm an inch shorter and a size or two smaller than you, but I've ridden almost every ride at WDW with no trouble at all. The only issue would be leg room on some rides, but I was never uncomfortable to the point I couldn't ride or asked to switch. I've never needed accomodation, but I hear the CMs are very accomodating.

Good job with the weight lose!!!! That is a great accomplishment.

Have fun on your trip!!!!

If the turnstiles seem tight, ask a CM to show you a wheelchair entrance, and you'll be able to get through that no problem. I can't think of anything that would be too tight. Congrats on losing 60 lbs, and good luck to 20 more!

The only two turnstyles that caused me any problems were at the exit of IASW and the ones at the entrance of the Liberty Belle River Boat. I have found that if there is more than one turnstyle, try the ones on the end. For some reason they seem the have a little more room. Don't worry! Relax and have a great time!!

One quick warning about riding with the 3yo. Beware of rides that have one bar that comes down across both parties. I'm pooh sized and when the bar comes down it stops at my size but when I'm riding with my little one it's way too high. :scared1:

Just something to watch for, and it's only on rides with one bar for both seats.
