Great!!

Most of the reasons I originally visited the DIS are now going away. First the political discussions were ended, now the shares and swaps. I guess I can always come here to find out about how to price my goods at a yard sale.

I come here to talk about Disney?!?

I am sure the Mods have their reasons!

I also know that there is a thread with a free stroller swap, because I was thinking of joining it . There are still dates open from what I saw!

To put a message on my exsisting photoshare to get everyone's email address...this is a photoshare that already began. Please let me know. Sorry if this was discussed I didn't get a chance to look thru the entire thread. Thanks
I would hope that you already have everyone's email address or some alternative way of communicating with them. If not, it's okay to post on your thread that members of your share will need to contact you to update their info.

Strollers - those who fly have problems bringing strollers along. Extra piece of luggage. or buy a cheap one?

When did the airlines start charging? Our last flight, they did it as gate check and there was no charge! Bummer!

Again, shares & swaps that are free to members are welcome. The issue is with members collecting money in order to start or maintain a swap.

I hope that you find other reasons to stick around the DIS. There are a lot of good things about this site and the people who are members.

So if I decided to do a photopass and was going to pay the money - would the thread be deleted if out of the kindness of my heart I asked if any Disers wanted to share the photopass with me at no cost to them? Or are all photopass shares not allowed?

Strollers - those who fly have problems bringing strollers along. Extra piece of luggage. or buy a cheap one? Naw. My DD needed a stroller, yet she is too big for the "cheap ones". I was going to rent a Disney one each day until I read the stroller swaps. I get in at the beginning of one and yes, I paid $10, but $10 for eight days versus what I would have paid for a Disney stroller? No brainer.

Refrigerators - once again, those who fly can't bring one, or an ice chest. The frig swaps are the only way to go.

I'm sad these are ending but understand. But I think there are enough people who will bring ones they won't ever need again and be willing to share.

On a few of our trips to WDW we went to one of the second hand stores here in town and purchased a full size carriage for under $10-(first one cost $5-second one was $10) we brought it home, washed the fabric parts in the washer and the frame in the tub and we were good to go. And these weren't crappy umbrella strollers and they were in great condition and lasted long after our trip. Oh and it was gate checked so there was no charge.

As for the cooler--you can bring one on the plane--we did. And it was no rinky dink soft sided one either. It was a big hard side cooler with wheels and a pull handle(one of the ones that ice lasts for a week in)

If you were to kindly offer to allow other DISers to use your photopass account, burned the CDs for them and shipped them for free all out of the goodness of your heart, I don't see where the objection would be to that.

If someone were to purchase a refrigerator for their own use and decide to pass it on to the next DISer who could use it (at no cost to the next person), that would also be permitted.

If someone has an old stroller that they were going to abandon in WDW after they were done with their trip but they would like to pass it on to someone else, that's fine.

Just so we're clear...you can still do swaps as long as they are free.

We were part of a double stroller swap in January. We drove down to WDW w/ our 4 kids and there's no way a double jogger could have fit into our van.

We paid $15 to swap a top of the line double jogger -- that was the best $15 I spent all week!!!!!

I think this decision sucks. Instead of getting all paranoid that swaps are breaking rules, why not CHANGE THE RULES? I see no reason why well-meaning people can't organize swaps to save each other a few bucks. I participated in the swap at my own risk, and I knew what I was getting into and what would happen if it didn't work out. (I'd lose $15 bucks. BIG FLIPPIN DEAL!)

Swap organizers are not selling anything. They are organizing a service in which others can choose whether or not to participate.

WE ARE GROWN-UPS, PEOPLE!!! We can make our own decisions about how to "risk" our money. And frankly, this puts a sour taste in my mouth about the budget board. This board is about how to maximize our time and dollars, especially as these topics pertain to our Disney trips. The swaps were a GREAT idea and should be continued. I'm extremely disappointed, and I DON'T understand, support, or otherwise agree with the decision, no matter what "it's breaking the rules" rhetoric you choose to flame me with.

If people are so concerned about the extra money to have to buy a cheap umbrella stroller or bring their own in these hard economic times, maybe you should be rethinking spending the money to go in the first place.

Who would do this? Really...you would pay $100 bucks and allow others to ride on your cd... I don't get it.
I personally would think that all photopass shares wouldn't be allowed. We'll see what the mod would say.

As far as a fridge goes, before swaps were "invented" we would either buy a foam cooler and use ice in ziploc bags to keep our stuff cold. Another time we packed a soft sided cooler (it folded up, went in the suitcase) and used ice from the hotel. Worked great!

How much does it cost to bring a stroller on a plane? A prior poster said they weren't charged. Even if you were charged, wouldn't it still be cheaper than renting one for the length of the trip? :confused3

I don't want a "cheap umbrella stroller." I want a heavy duty one that will stand up to the rigors of park touring and that has a big spot to store my crap.

I'm not saying the person that posted this would do it, but obviously people could post a "free" photopass share and take care of the money aspect off the boards. Just use the disboards to get the other participants. Again, I'm not saying that's what that poster had in mind. I guess I am too cynical. :sad1:

Why not go to Walmart and buy a cheapie stroller?

Because they are crap!!!! I don't want to be miserable pushing one all week and nither does anyones else I would think. I think it is saqd that in this day and age it is a legal liability for people to help one another out. An like it or not that what this boils down to. The dis is covering their legal rear end here. They don't want to get sued b/c one of these things went bad and they allowed it to happen.

The board may be about maximizing time and dollars, but in the end it is the Owners of this board who are paying out the cash to keep it going and they get to make the decisions.

I applaud this decision. In the past few months I've seen more and more posts advertising swaps and shares. Then came the posts "I'm looking for..." swaps and shares. Yes, folks don't have to click on those posts to read them...but when you need to wade through two or three pages of these posts to find anything meaningful it becomes ridiculous.

Folks who want to continue to run swaps and shares can...its not like the DIS banned them completely. All they are saying is find someplace else to run your swaps. They no longer wish to allocate the bandwidth or board space to accommodate them here.

While I understand that the DIS does not want to be responsible for lost cash on these transactions, I wonder how the DVC Point Renting board circumvents these rules.

If the worry is about a lost $10, $20, maybe $30 from a swap gone bad, what about the loss of hundreds or thousands from a DVC point rental gone bad?

I'm not trying to be a trouble-maker...just trying to understand the decision to stop these and wondering why the "no cash exchange" rule doesn't apply for DVC point rentals.

Speed :teleport:

Unfortunately, I think you are correct in your assessment.

We have 4 kids; we drive down in a packed-to-the-max van. I would be hard-pressed to fit a cheap umbrella stroller, much less the double that we need. Yes, I have a cheap umbrella stroller, but when I am at DISNEY, I want a big one that will seat both my pre-schoolers comfortably and that will hold our stuff, which is why I loved the swap.

To bring my big double stroller with me costs the space in my van, which I cannot afford.
