You're on vacation. Why are you cooking in your room?

Skimmed through but didn’t see anyone post something similar so I’ll add my two cents. I mainly stay studios so those trips we buy some easy to microwave stuff for kids but don’t really cook. However, when we do the bigger rooms it’s normally part of a bigger group with extended family and we always cook a big breakfast.

For us it’s nice to save the money but really the reason we do it is we enjoy it. Growing up we’d always go on big family vacation to place in West Virginia. I always remember every morning grandparents getting up and starting a big breakfast for everyone as a big family event to kick off the day. During day to day life we would usually be in rush so would have cereal or oatmeal for breakfast so a big family breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes was a treat and my mind nostalgically associates that heavily with a family vacation. Therefore we sometimes will get 2br, bring the parents along, and have a big family meal a few times a week mimicking this.

I'm with you on this one, I cook 300+ days a year the last place I'm cooking is on vacation. At least for me a vacation is an escape from everyday life and cooking puts me right back into it. I actually enjoy cooking just not on vacation.
We do use the microwave a decent amount for any leftovers we might have taken back to the room.
I agree completely! I cook meals all year long and really look forward to my vacation away from the everyday chores and cooking. Not cooking is one of the things I look forward to most on vacation. So I'm right there with you:)

We do both, but almost always cook some meals. Both because it is less expensive, and to be honest, we cook better tasting food than most the restaurants can provide.

We use the outside grills quite a bit sometimes. It is a nice time to sit and talk and relax. I have more than once cooked a huge meal for $150 that would have cost well over $600 if we went out.

I wish I could recall the exact episode, but something like this was parodied many years ago on "The Simpsons." They are on holiday somewhere and Marge starts cleaning up the vacation home where they're staying. Lisa snarkily notes, "Must be exciting to make a whole different set of beds." Marge comes with back, "I know you're joking...but it is!"

I bought groceries and cooked in my room one trip. It's not for me. I thought I should utilize the kitchen after splurging for the 1 bedroom unit, but it was more work than it was worth for me. Add doing the dishes on top of that and no thank you. My kids and I eat a light breakfast, so we usually share a breakfast meal (or two.) It's more relaxing for us that way. We do end up with leftovers from dinner at times, and we use the microwave to reheat those so they don't go to waste.

I honestly believe the folks here who enjoy cooking should be rewarded. I would truly like to enhance their experience by letting them cook breakfast for me in my room.

Some just enjoy cooking something relatively simple and healthy to share with friends or family. Good times and memories for all!

for us - especially on long trips - I just can't handle eating out for every meal all day every day. Just doesn't feel healthy, plus it is nice to have everything already in the room. We tend to eat out one meal or so a day, and we enjoy the food at Disney, but don't want to eat every meal for a week in a restaurant.
