You know you are old or damaged ....

What about Astro Boy...who made us all nauseous by his flying....🤢🤢🤢 Gumby and his jeep

my adult anime loving kids have long fought my distaste for this style of animation but I continue to point out that my earliest memories of it are based on (IMHO) awful stuff like astro boy, kimba the white lion and speed racer. I don't remember Gumby running through a regular saturday morning scheduale rotation but maybe on Sundays? SO MANY of the old Hannah Barbera and Warner Brothers cartoons that have just been rerun into the ground on cable and cartoon network I remember eagerly waiting to watch first-run. the fall preview edition of the TV guide with it's detailing of the upcoming new roster of cartoons was highly anticipated in our household. then, in the pre-VHS days, it became an agonizing plan of which show to watch at what time on one of the 3 TOTAL TV stations we had :scared1: :headache::rotfl:

Wow.. we are kindred spirits !!! I could not wait to be an adult to purchase that TV guide and flow chart the week ... now fall 🍁 🍁 🍁 season... like leaves on a tree takes months ... and yes.. those animations were Sunday or late Saturday on non affiliate station

the extent to which I LOVE old Saturday morning cartoons (old TV shows in general) is demonstrated if you go to the kitchen cabinet our glassware is in-dozens of fastfood promotion animation glasses dating back to the mid 70's. we use them daily and unlike the stuff the stores sell these days that you can't dishwasher and still end up peeling apart-these are all still in great condition. dh and my kids tease me about my passion for it but they have 'fed the beast' b/c while I DID retain my 'monkees' thermos from elementary school THEY are the ones who have found old 'banana splits', 'pee-wees playhouse' and others to keep it company.

in the spirit of the wildfire thread and what people would try to save in their homes...pets, family photos, vital docs of course come first but if I had the time it would be the two autographed Chuck Jones items I would be reaching for (looney tunes hold a special place in my heart).

You think you have it bad.......,.............my last name is KROFFT

did you grow up in lidsville? I always heard it was the groo-groo-grooviest:hippie:
No... there is no history on how they chose their last name ... I have a theory on how the 2 young Canadian choose my last name... somehow H.R. Puff stuff was the only show I remember watching and banana splits... the rest may not have available for viewing ..then came university....my parents were very broken people so they were not aware or thought nothing of it .so I never saw the product new. Wasn't until I entered the antique collectable business in 1986 that I even knew the product was available by the time I boxed up the collection I had over 40 pieces from estate sales and thrift store finds...the holy Grail being witchapoo which I sold for 600.00 in 2000 to make a house payment as I was full time on eBay

The legacy of Lawrence Welk is highly undervalued IMO. My grandpa loved it and I also remember it being on at my house sometimes on the Saturday night line up in the 60's and 70's. But what I LOVE about the Lawrence Welk show is the joy it gave my parents during their dementia years. I could pull up YouTube videos and know that my parents would have 30 or more minutes of respite being distracted by music and dancing - and nothing they didn't understand.

Even old sitcoms like The Mary Tyler Moore show (which they LOVED in it's time) were really too complicated for them to follow and enjoy, but I could always count on Lawrence Welk for an easy watching time for them.

Honestly, in the 90's when I didn't have cable and some sort of "best of Lawrence Welk" show was the only thing on in the middle of the night it was also GREAT for calming fussy babies. Cheesy, yes, but it was a different time. It got blasted for lasting past it's time - but it did because it still had an audience - because older people do watch tv too.

I love oldies and The Lawrence Welk show definitely has a place in history.
