Someone sent me an email that Glade Plug ins caused a fire in her house.

I use the Yankee plug-ins everywhere in the house. (I have over 13 in my home) and I love them.

Do you think they are safe or hazardous?

That e-mail is going around.
Snopes has it under investigation.
I checked all my YC ones and they don't seem hot...just very slightly warm. I keep mine at the lowest setting.
I assume that YC's are a higher quality than Glade, but I will unplug them when we leave the house until I hear more.

Sounds kinda urban legendy to me.

Plug ins have been around for a long time from various manufacturers, including Glade. If there had been fires because of them we would hear about it in legitimate news sources, not emails.

I'm a Yankee vendor and we haven't heard word one about any plug ins causing fires.

If a plug in caused a fire I would bet the person that used it altered in in some way rendering it unsafe - or the outlet itself was unsafe

I think the Glade Plug-In, in question, was the one with the extra outlet. I don't know that I would go plugging any high powered devices into it - like a hair dryer - that's just a bad idea. We have the YC ones now and have had no issues.

Sounds like another urban legend to me... I can't imagine them being any more dangerous than the other plug-ins people have. I have a housefull of B&BW ones and have had no problems.

I'd wait to see if anything official is released from the company before yanking them from the wall. =)

ok - about the glade ones - when were they catching fire?
when they were still full of oil? or when they were bone dry?

I used those oil plug in's in my own house...I plugged one in and totally forgot about it. Furniture got re-arranged, hiding the outlet..

Easily 9 months to a year goes by before I do some heavy duty cleaning and move the furniture - there it is, one bone dry glad plug in.

no part of it was overly warm. hindsight - it would have sucked if that "wick" got too hot...but I dont' know what would cause it to spark/burn into a flame.

my mother has the YC ones all over her house...I'm more a fan of the regular plug ins. neither one of us have had issues.

THis is just my experience. It was a Glade plug in not an extra outlet. My ex step brother's house burnt down because of one of these that leaked and caused a fire while they were gone for the day. The fire inspector said that there isn't enough money in the world that would get him to use these. He has seen so many fires because of them.
