Worst rides for neck problems?

I found a two year old thread about this, so perhaps nothing has changed, but thought I would ask. Last week while on vacation in Costa Rica, my husband got rolled by a wave and hit his head on the bottom, which caused his neck to snap backwards (I guess that's whiplash?). :headache: It was quite stiff for a few days, but it is better, now. I'm of course worried that he'll damage it when we go on our trip to Disneyworld in two weeks, and he won't go in to have it looked at because it's improving.

Bumpy jostling probably won't bother him, but which rides really whip your head around - either side to side, or back and forth?

I would worry about Space Mountain. I have neck issues and it bothers me.

I had whiplash when a teenager. I am in my late 30s now and still find the following rides leave my neck sore...

Star Tours (the old one...not sure if revamped version smoother)
Space Mountain
Dinosaur

I have not ridden rock and roll coaster or any other major thrill coaster to comment on those.

Sorry about his neck!

DINOSAUR!! Worst ride ever! Anyone with any kind of pain problem should avoid it like the plague! I don't normally have a back problem, but mine was killing me after that ride. It was like torture. I couldn't wait for it to end! There are 2 rides I will never ride again----Dinosaur and Tea Cups!

Mission Space, especially the Green line, may not be good. I found the Green line (less spinning) actually was a lot rougher than the orange line.

A couple of years ago I had been dealing with a neck issue. I was going to a chiropractor a couple of times a week for several months. He'd twist my neck, it would feel better for a while, then bad again.

Went on this ride and had my head whipped back and forth, almost like what the chiropractor had been doing. EXCEPT, the pain never came back. Two years later, I've never gone on that ride again, because I want to keep it that way.

My mom said that Primeval Whirl messed up her neck. I think it was because she sat weird but it does jerk a person around quite a bit.

Primeval Whirl
BTMRR
Space Mountain
ToT
RnRC
Tea Cups
Star Tours (possibly)
Everest
Kali River Rapids

Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread. A post on page 2 of that thread has information about attractions with warnings and a bit about what the attraction is like.

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, Dino...saur. Had a friend bruised on this ride being slammed into the seat separators.

Space Mountain would probably do it, too - there's a halt right at the base of the lift hill that hits my lower back and reminds me that despite my child-like abandon I am not a child anymore. That jolt and the ride in general would definitely affect a neck, too.

I would definitely skip Dinosaur and Space Mountain if my neck bothered me. I would probably skip Primevil Whirl and Everest too.

The new Star Tours is very very smooth compared to the old one. There is some vibration and movement, but it isn't jerky, IMO. I'd probably do that.

I might skip Toy Story Mania too, because when the cars twirl around between the arcade parts I got whipped around a lot myself. It felt rather jerky.

I have had a cervical disc fusion.

The following killed my neck---in order of severity---

Dinosaur (the WORST-avoid like the plague-HARD up, down, side to side movement-a real head banger)
Space Mountain (can't see what's coming-dark and lots of sharp turns you can't be ready for)
Expedition Everest-I could ride this one again as you can see what's coming and brace for it, plus- it was fun!! Will have to evaluate when the time comes--the other two though--NO WAY.

- I haven't ridden the other rides the other posters mention except Toy Story Mania-i don't remember feeling like I was being protective of my neck on that one-(that was too much fun to hurt) but I can see the ones I've listed we all agree upon!

I have pics of myself on all three and I am hunching my neck down and my shoulders up with my face all squished!!! Beautiful.

When my neck is bothering me, these are the attractions that really bother me...
EE
Primeval Whirl
Dinosaur
Space Mt
Teacups
RnRC....rear of the cars
BTMRR

Thank you all so much! I have a feeling he's going to push the envelope a bit and try RnRC (we'll try to get up front) and also EE - maybe I'll go on them first. The others, he won't mind skipping.

I'm surprised that Mission Space is hard on the neck. Does it press it back into the seat? Neither of us can tolerate spinning rides, so most likely will avoid it, but I'm just curious.:)

I broke my neck on 2006 and these were the attractions I absolutely did NOT go on.

Magic Kingdom -
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain
Tea Cups

Epcot -
Mission:Space
Maelstrom

Animal Kingdom -
Kali River Rapids
Safari
Expedition Everest
Dinosaur
Primiveil Whirl

Studios -
Rock N Roller Coaster
Twilight Zone

But, that was with a broken neck, not whiplash. And I am very cleared to ride everything and I was stupid to not check this three years ago.

There are several people to decide (trust me, it's a big decision). (1) your doctor. (2) your husband and (3) you.

Once my doctor said it was OK for me to do things, I trusted my husband and then closed my eyes and did it. As you can tell, I'm still here.

Here's the strange thing (to me): I don't have neck, or any other issues, wifey does. I think Dino is the most jerky ride in WDW, wifey enjoys that, but R 'n R gives her a problem. I guess it's highly individualistic. (Is that a word?)
