Worst quick service at deluxe resort

Hard agree with their assessment of the lunch/dinner service -- was not happy with Contempo Cafe for dinner, everything I tried was rancid. Had a patty melt that was inedible. I did try Contempo Cafe for breakfast one morning and was happier with the breakfast flatbread I got, plus very impressed with two pastries my family ordered for the table.

My boiling hot take is that all of the QS options at the Deluxe resorts are lacking. I've never been truly "wow"ed by any of them, those kitchens always seem so small and the menus are always lacking. Moderate resort and Value resort "food court" style QS locations always have better, more customizable dishes and much larger menus.

What Deluxe resorts lack in QS options is picked up by some pretty great TS restaurants across the board, so it's a bit of give-and-take, but I just wish the majority of Deluxe resorts had at least some type of customizable breakfast bowl/platter option in the morning.

I thought it was interesting. Contempo Cafe is actually our favorite, so I was surprised by the article and thought it would be interesting to see if we are in the minority. What do you guys think of Contempo? What’s the worst quick service at deluxe in your opinion?
I would say our favorite is Artist's Palette at SSR, but Contempo Cafe is definitely in the #2 spot. I love the tofu bowl and actually crave it when I'm at home. We've never had a negative experience there. Love mobile ordering a late night snack right before they close after a busy park day. Easy pick up and everything has always been fresh, hot, and well packaged.

(My comparison is among deluxe resorts only. We've never been to the others.)

Editing because I didn't answer the question. Oops! The worst is Boardwalk because there isn't one. hahaha. Worst of the existing ones (deluxe only comparison) is Beach Club. What is that smell?!

At least Contempo has good seating. We've only been there for breakfast, but the breakfast is comparable to every other Disney QS and I enjoyed watching the families with little kids going to Chef Mickey's. It was really cute people watching.

The only meal we may eat at QS is breakfast, so my evaluation of resort QS is all about breakfast. I'm surprised they didn't mention the Epcot resort QS. We love the Epcot resorts, but the menu options for breakfast are limited, it's just a counter in the middle of a shop, and there isn't much (any) seating and it always "feels" so crowded.

I love sitting there too, but I am a self confessed Contemporary Nut. The forth floor is one of my favorite places on Earth!

If SSR is considered a Deluxe, I would say that Good's To Go at OKW is the worst.

Otherwise, I can't think of a Deluxe resort QS that is worse than Contempo Cafe. That doesn't mean it's bad, just not as good or interesting as some of the more themed QS restaurants like The Mara or Captain Cooks.

We stayed at BLT in April for a week. I never found any of the items we had to be bad. I just thought the menu was pretty lacking since we ate multiple meals there throughout the week. We ended up getting Steakhouse 71 almost everyday for lunch since mobile order got the dvc discount. Dh had a burger and I got the salad. Prices weren’t much more and the food was so much better.

I usually see most YouTubers recommend it as a good option for a break from MK, so I was surprised to see it listed as the worst counter service at a resort.

Probably Goods to Go? I don't think it's the worst as far as food taste goes - they all more or less taste the same/portions/food/quality of food used, etc. - but I think it is lacking in selection and size of the place/area/no inside place to eat - what if it's pouring and one was planning on a QS bite.....

(Have not tried BW since it reopened the food court area in the lobby/not sure if it even serves or is considered QS - This one could be at the bottom otherwise for not having one).

Baahahaha! "food court area"? It is nothing of the sort! They opened a coffee counter in the space where the lobby gift shop used to be. There's barely any food there at all. They serve made to order coffee beverages, muffins, and danish. You can also grab a yogurt or piece of fruit. And it closes at 3:30 in the afternoon! It is a net loss for Boardwalk when you consider that we not only lost the inside convenience store to make room for it, but since it opened Belle Vue Lounge discontinued serving grab and go breakfast sandwiches in the morning.

BW has the deli, and it's great. There's more selection there than you realize, trust me.

Goods to go at OKW was horrible. Beach club marketplace has also been horrible in our experience.

We've been big fans of Captain Cook's over at the Poly.

Good to know. I saw pictures of it when it opened but have no idea what they have.

I think there is a reason why the quick serve areas, beach club for example, now have frosted glass on the hot food prep table. You can no longer see any of the food before you order. That works in their favor We would not have ordered had we gotten a look ahead of time. 🤣 You get a closed cardboard carryout box. The food seems to come out of a warmer, but it has been cooked somewhere else a hours and hours earlier. I am surprised Disney serves such drek in an otherwise lovely hotel. A few years ago you could at least order a decent hot sandwich...

Have had the patty melt and really enjoyed it and have had the French dip/sliced beef sandwich multiple times and enjoyed it. I love the housemade chips. Always found things like chicken nuggets and fries hot and fresh and have always had positive experiences with the CM there.

Agree with BW. We loved absolutely everything else about the resort, but not being able to grab a quick breakfast or grab something relatively inexpensive for dinner there was a complete deal-breaker. I guess if you consider the walk to the OK QS at Swolpin it's passable? Nah - I'd rather stay at BLT and go to Contempo.

Best Deluxe QS for us is Roaring Fork at WL...but...that does not hold a candle to the QS at POR, POFQ or AoA. Those are really our favorite QS on property.

I actually like Goods Food to Go for the tuna sandwich, with some potato chips, it does me for two meals. I wouldn't eat anything else there though. Artiste's Palette at SSR has good sandwiches too (are you seeing a pattern?). When we stay in DVC villas at the resorts, we tend to prepare some meals ourselves because of the choices, or rather lack of. Next year we're staying at POR and Poly, here's hoping for some edible options.

I would put whatever the thing is at BC as the worst. Never had anything good, last time I was considering the taste of the napkin over the Waffles. OKW while small and... The food is at least made fresh. The best for us is GF with SSR a very close second. I have enjoyed others WL although the menu is limited even combining both there are some decent things. Contempo the few times we ate there were fine just not the top of my list for menu choices. Poly I was a fan years ago but anything in the past 5-6 years has not been good. The coffee/sushi/ whatever else they add counter has good pastries. Mara was good but I have not been there in a number of years.

Our favourite quick service is at Geyser pointe. We have only eaten at the Contempo Cafe once. That was summe of 2019. What we had was well cooked & tasted ok for a quick service.
But that was 5years ago. Any thing could have changed since then:confused3

Edit: Worse one at a Deluxe, I can honestly say I have not eaten at a QS in deluxe resort that I have disliked yet.

We don't eat at enough of them to say which is worst, but last time we ate at Contempo it was okay. Not as good as it once was, but that is true property-wise. Semi recently our food from Gasparilla wasn't that great. We had mixed feelings about the Boardwalk Deli. Chicken sandwich was okay, corned beef was very greasy, desserts from there are great.

Overall, WDW needs to improve food quality for price paid.
