Why is shopping DVC resale contracts so addictive?

Add-on-itis is real.

Ahhh the possibilities are endless! We get to fantasize about owning more points and more resorts. BUT it needs to be a contract and price so good it justifies buying. Thrill of the hunt, of future dreams, of choosing and getting even more of something already known to bring us happiness. Dopamine hits coming from all directions 😂

It's probably different reasons for some but me, I LOVE buying cars, but I cant have a driveway full of cars. I have people that come to me to go with them to buy a car because I love negotiation and I am pretty good at it. So it boils down to it fuels my love of getting a deal. Which then turns into finding deals on Disney Gift Cards to pay annual dues and pay for tickets etc. I also have a deep love for Disney.

It is very addicting, and dvcforless makes it even tougher. I think I check there more than any other site. I’m constantly checking my saved searches and even when the perfect ones pop up I have to talk myself out of it because I just don’t need any more points right now, I could be in need for a trip that wouldn’t even happen until late 2027 or early 2028. lol

I’m not sure if it’s the hunt or the idea of just having more booking options.

Then you start dreaming of SAP points for bigger rooms or better views, cabins, etc.
My brain thinks I can afford more points but reality is I’m not sure I could afford to use them.!!

It is all the hanging out on the ROFR thread, seeing the deals people are getting. 🤣

I'm actually casually searching for more points, just not sure which route I'd like to go - go resale and add on more at BLT or somewhere else, or add on more direct points for future restricted resort stays. The ROFR thread and the aggregators make it so easy to window shop.

Do you tend to look for new resorts to add, or look towards adding more points to one of your existing?

I like the idea of having a lot of resorts, but it is nice to have a bigger pile at at least one in case you want a larger room or more than one studio.

That has been my biggest issue lately. I really want to add CCV, but having a 4th resort seems like a waste when i can realistically only stay at 3 per trip, so I've been struggling with what the next move is. I really only want to stay at 2 per trip (BWV & MK area), but i can't seem to not want to stay at AKV for at least a couple nights. lol

I could always add CCV & treat them like SAP points & rotate between BLT & CCV, staying at one & SAP with the other each trip (every other year)... Until i start going every year it seems the only real option, but i do still feel like id rather buy BLT or CCV over SSR for now, but well see how that goes over the next few trips.

So to answer your question, yes, i do look at new resorts on top of my current ones, but i also have BWV & BLT in my searches too just add to my existing points. :)

Yep, i check in there often as well, just not as much as DVCforLess.com

I think a bigger pile at one resort can be really helpful if you are traveling with a group and want to stay together.

I'm in the same boat right now, waffling between adding at Poly vs. more points at Riv. Leaning towards Riv. If it weren't for those pesky restrictions, I wouldn't even think twice about it. But I do like CCV too!

Someone explain this psychology. I’ve never had such a deep interest in something. I have found a couple contracts to my liking, but I almost don’t want to pull any triggers because then I won’t have the funds to keep shopping. Help. 😂
I candidly think that people whose brains suffer from a lack of dopamine are drawn to things that provide a steady stream of intense dopamine hits.

1) Researching the resorts!
2) Learning the market!
3) Watching the aggregators and waiting for the perfect contract!
4) Making lots of lowball offers and trying to get a steal of a deal!

It’s all one big stream of dopamine hits!

Guilty.
What do we do when out of funds?? lol

I may need therapy and possibly medication…

So just for my own curiosity, how many of us have careers or side hustles that relate to analytics or markets? I trade futures. They have similar dopamine structures. 😂 I’d be interested to learn that there’s a psychological element present among many educated DVC buyers.

And…the making offers part is especially addicting because the outcome is unknown, but sometimes there is a big payday. When sometimes the result happens and sometimes it doesn’t and we can’t predict when the result will occur, it can reinforce a behavior. Win a few amazing contracts and you will probably keep making more lowball offers. It isn’t all that different than playing slots (except of course you aren’t actively losing money until you buy).

I'm glad that site is filtered out to keep it a secret lol. It's much better than dvcforless, especially for us analytic types.
I do like they reflect price reductions better. When a price is reduced it refreshes the timestamp and the age goes to zero. Whereas on www.dvcforless.com will show the listing from when it was listed, it is easier on the eyes though

To me, straight data and less scrolling/fluff is easier on my eyes! Also, dvcforless does not recognize subsidized contracts.

I am not a gambler, my brain just sees it as spending a lot of money quickly and it makes me anxious and miserable. With DVC I don't see it as actively losing money, I view it as spending now for future vacations, I think thats why my brain can be okay with spending money on it.
