Why do people throw their gum on the ground?

I think one of my biggest pet peeves is people who throw their gum on the ground! Wait until you are near a trash or wrap it up in a piece of paper to throw out later, but please, do not throw it on the ground.

THAT IS MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate that, I always step in gum someone just spit out of their mouths!

Ohhh I hate that. And cracking gum. And when the chewer is chewing so vigorously that the gum just might spontaneously combust. That drives me up a wall.

I can never understand why people who throw their trash on the ground couldn't hold on to it until they found a trash can. I understand accidents happen; something flies out an open car window or you set something down and forget about it. I'll be out walking and see beer bottles, fast food wrappers, etc on the side of the road and all I can think of is how hard would it have been to get it to a trash can.

I stepped in gum once in a parking lot during a nice hot summer day. I swear it stretched about 10 feet from the bottom of my flip flop back to the spot where I had stepped on it. It actully tugged my foot back a bit which was how I noticed I had stepped in it.

I like to think people who purposely throw trash out and have no regard for our environment are trash themselves.

That's a pet peeve of mine too! When I chewed gum I'd keep the paper the piece came in just to wrap it when throwing it away. Needless to say I don't chew gum anymore--I'm one of those people who cracks it without thinking; it just happens.

If those people realized how they look (think Britney Spears??) I bet they'd quit chewing gum in public! Looks absolutely disgusting with the gum going from side of the mouth to the other & the tongue flapping. Geeze! Looks like a cow chewing cud. Icky!!

I once saw, what appeared to be, an entire family's McDonald's dinner thrown out in the middle of the road. The cheeseburger wrappers, a salad container, the drink cups, even the 2 bags the food came in, just thrown in the road. It was disgusting.

Yes, Singapore is known for it's litter fines. You want to throw some gum, pay 1,000.00.

My exdh is a big litter bug, when DD is riding with him, she has to tell him to not throw something out of the car while he is driving.

A few weeks ago, there were some teenagers in a car, just chucking stuff out. Well they weren't too smart, because a cop pulled them over. It wasn't just small stuff, but a plastic bag can block someone's windshield.

After 6 seperate occasions of going along the road picking up garbage others have left behind, all I can say is YUCK.

I found so much crap. Beer bottles and cans of brands that I haven't even heard of, fast food containers, decomposing paper, various "unmetionables", plastic bags, pop cups, shoes, clothing, plastic wrap, dishes confused3)

It's disgusting. I always did it for community service. My high school organized an entire day where the whole school would go out and pick garbage up off the side of the roads in the surrounding area.

I have never, and will never, throw anything out on the road. Heck, they even make car-sized garbage bags for slobs like me. Or just use a Wal-Mart bag. Just toss trash in during the day and take it out when you get home! It's not that hard!

Regarding the gum chewing, my mom had a rule that applied as soon as I started chewing gum. She always said, "If I can hear it, you're spitting it out." She enforced it too! I am a very, very quiet gum chewer now, because I swear Mom hears everything!!

While cigarette butts are disgusting, at least they don't stick to the bottom of my shoes and then I drag the gum on my carpets in my car and house. I swear my shoes are gum magnets.

That's a pet peeve of mine too. Gum of different colors splattered on sidewalks and parking lots. Awful. Right up there with it is spit. Why do people do that? Spit out like that? It's just so gross!

OMG, someone tossed a butt once while I was in sandals (not flip flops). They must have JUST tossed it, since it got stuck in the side strap of my sandal BURNING MY BLEEPIN' FOOT. Yes, I have the scar to remember it.
