Why do those folks on scooters need to be breaking hearts like that? Ellie with her halo and Carl following along behind her? 😭😭

The panel last night was amazing but SO LONG! More than 3 hours and I got back to the room after 11pm and crashed.

I did get up at 4 to try for shopping VQ, but for the second day straight I got a glitch and ended up in a very late group. I'm guessing, like yesterday, it'll be called when I'm already at the Honda Center.

I'm sure you've all seen the announcements, so I'll give the recap.

Highlights: Moana/Rock kickoff, Broadway segment with Hercules and the total surprise of The Greatest Showman (lights had gone down as if that section was over, then they started the opening notes of The Greatest Show in the dark --wow), the whole Star Wars section, Jeff Bridges, James Cameron (even though I can't stand Avatar), Jamie Lee Curtis (wonder if she and Cameron had a reunion backstage?), Lin Manuel Miranda. The coolest thing aside from Broadway may have been the cast of Agatha All Along coming out in fog after the clip played to perform a song, including Patti f*ing LuPone!! The David Blain illusion was kind of neat, but not a huge fan of him.

Lowlights: Snow White. Wow was that awkward. And the Whistle While You Work scene they showed was bad. The dwarves are creepy. Just, no. The energy was sapped from the room. I also thought the Marvel section was underwhelming, until Agatha. Was expecting maybe RDJ after the big Comic Con announcement last week or Ryan/Hugh, but they focused on Captain America and Ironheart. I'm not a big Marvel person, so maybe just me. We did get Ryan on video thanking everyone for making Deadpool v Wolverine such a huge hit.

It was just LONG after a long day, and a ton of information and energy waves. I was super tired, mentally and physically. I slept in a bit today and will probably head over about the same time as yesterday. No panels today, though I may try to see the costume contest winners this afternoon, and do the cosplay meetup. I'll post costume photos later.

Here are some from last night!

Watched the Snow White trailer on YouTube and I was totally underwhelmed too—it looks so awful. But the tiny snippet of live action Stitch they posted looks amazing.

Yes! I have high hopes for Stitch. He "took over" the arena, knocked out the power and popped out of the screen. The character looks really good!

I don’t know why they feel like they have to do a huge panel like that instead of separating out Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, etc. it’s also annoying that so many of the clips aren’t officially released. My friend texted me a bootleg of the Andor footage and it looked SO GOOD and I sure would like to have an official version of it. 😭

Checking in from the Sky Club at JFK after getting 3 hours of sleep on my flight from LAX. My brain is still super full from all that was D23. I'm very glad I did it, but honestly not sure if I need to do it again. I'll post more pics and a recap when I'm home and awake, but suffice it to say I did NOT need to bring the running gear!

My step counts, however:

Thursday 17,669 - 8.3 miles
Friday 18,971 - 8.4 miles
Saturday 15,434 - 6.7 miles
Sunday 25,716 - 11.2 miles

Before real life takes back over and I forget to do this, I'll post my quick thoughts on D23. It was my first one and something I'd always wanted to do. I never wanted to camp out for sessions or go through the hoops to get in, but when a club I belong to set up a group opportunity, I jumped at it. DH had no interest in going so I went solo. We had 3-day expo hall passes and all three nights at the Honda Center, but individual sessions and VQ for shopping were the same process as everyone else there.

Overall, it was fun to be there. I love a live event and the energy of the Honda Center each night was a blast! The show floor was pretty overwhelming, tbh. I've been to fan conventions, CES, E3, but this was somehow bigger than all of them. The activations were really cool, but 90% of things on the floor had massive lines every day from open to close. It just wasn't worth it to me to spend my time that way, so I did a lot of poking around the corners and popping into things when I noticed a lull. I did some of the pin pursuit, which was fun, but I don't need a bunch of giveaway crap that I'll stuff in a drawer and toss in a few years.

I loved interacting with the staff at the different booths, watching the cosplayers and photo opps, and the one session I got into (Muppets) was great. I didn't do standby for any of the others, but I was able to catch some fun things on the open Spotlight stage, including the costume contest winners and a fun "match game" style thing they did with all the parks ambassadors from around the world.

I dressed in Disney Dress Shop or Her Universe themed outfits, which got more comments than my costume. I did join the cosplay princess photo, but even among that group I was still explaining that I was a Steampunk version of Merida. (The bow and quiver I usually carry go a long way, but the rules said no weapons or things that look like weapons.) A few folks got it without prompting, but as I've said before, I need to make things more obvious. I'm considering making a ballgown skirt and getting a better quality wig -- the one I have has been through multiple rD races and a few MNSSHP parties, so it's pretty haggard (even for Merida).

There was very little time to pop over to the parks, which was sad as I don't get to DL that often. I was really hoping for a spin on HM with the overlay, but it was VQ only and by the time I got over there the two days I went, I got called super late and evening events. I did get some time on arrival day and cut short Day 3 at the expo to get a few more hours in (but it was HOT).

tl;dr: I'm glad I went and had a great time. It was exhausting and I feel like I probably didn't see everything. I would definitely do the Honda Center events again, but not sure I need to go back for the show floor unless I decided to really get into the cosplay aspect. The Disney Legends ceremony is on Disney+ now and I highly recommend watching it.

Photo dump Day 3:

Edit to add: I never got into shopping via VQ as the app glitched on me both days I tried. I ended up with very late numbers which were called after I was at the Honda Center. But I waited about 30 minutes on the last day for Mickeys of Glendale and picked up everything I wanted.

On day three, I wore my Her Universe Muses skirt and Meg shirt (it says I Won't Say I'm In Love with an embroidered flower on the chest). I posted and tagged Susan Egan and SHE DMd ME!!!

Awesome! D23 is on my bucket list. I used to always go to the Star Wars Celebrations, but haven't been since 2019. I miss big cons! They can definitely be overwhelming, though.

My first speed workout was on the plan today, so I actually did it outside! I used Google map distance measurement to figure out that 100m was about from my mailbox to a speed limit sign down my dirt road, and where I could do a one mile warm up/cool down loop. I went out about 10am and still had some decent weather (65F with D+T of 130ish) and some shade along the sides of the road.

My 1 mile warmup was decent, and I ended it looped back at my mailbox for my five 100m repeats. I'm supposed to do them at R pace, which for me is a 9 minute mile. Here's what I did:

Repeat 1: 9:35
Repeat 2: 8:48
Repeat 3: 8:53
Repeat 4: 8:23
Repeat 5: 8:14

LOL I clearly am not used to what paces feel like outside! Oh well, close enough for the first attempt. I did my loop again for my 1 mile cool down, but it was warmer and the shade was a bit harder to come by, so I wasn't very cool by the end of it. Garmin scolded me for not following my workout -- I got an execution score of 6%! HARSH!

At least I have pretty views. And fall is already starting here in northern Vermont!

I'm still really bad at pacing for faster-than-5K reps, and I do all my workouts outside 😂 I feel like Garmin should give you credit for having (almost) every one be faster than the last, though!

Yes, exactly!

I wonder if Disney is bracing itself for this Snow White to be a disaster, and just move on from it...
Honestly, the press has been so negative about everything from the actress for Snow, to all of the complications around the casting of the dwarves. No one was excited about them doing a live action re-telling (have ANY of them been popular?!) so I’m not sure why they keep forcing it.

The only one I really like is the Cinderella, after that I haven't even seen them all.
