Which airport and how do I get to Disneyland area from that airport?

I plan to fly solo to Disneyland area and meet the rest of family traveling by car. What airport do you recommend to fly? LAX has the best cost (about half the cost and is nonstop). I would then need trasportation to Disneyland area hotel.

There's also ONT airport... it's quaint and it's about 45 mins (assuming good LA traffic) from the Disneyland area! Southwest and Delta have flights out of there. Plenty of rental car options there to choose from.

SNA is my favorite because it's so close to Disneyland. ONT is very nice, too. Small and easy to get around.

There are shuttle companies that go between Disneyland and most of the airports.

You can rent a car, but if you're doing that I'd avoid LAX and Burbank.

How experienced of a traveler are you? LAX is a large airport and can feel overwhelming for some. I don't know what type of savings you are talking about, but personally I would always choose nonstop. At LAX, you would need to either take an airport shuttle to the rideshare lot or order a premium rideshare to pick you up at the terminal. Rideshare at the airport is always more expensive than offsite. Some take a rideshare to a local restaurant (In N Out is popular) to grab food and then order a second rideshare to get to Disneyland. Again, for many it isn't worth the hassle. For others, they need to eat anyways so why not?

LAX is 33 miles away. LGB is 21 miles away and a great small airport if you are flying SWA. SNA is the closest at 13 miles away. It is often the most expensive of the three.

That said, each person has to decide how much they are willing to spend on convenience. Personally, I would rather spend my money on LL, park hopping, food and souvenirs, but that is me.

Not renting a car. I am flying Southwest. Would like to go to LAX due to non-stop flights. Just not sure what would be the options to get to Disneyland area.

Also, any hotel suggestions for 1 night near Disney?

We have used diamond driver guy twice from Burbank airport to Anaheim and they were great. For sure more expensive than an uber but we liked having a ride booked in advance.

What are you looking for in a hotel? Walking distance? Budget?

People like Karmel shuttle and I've used Sunny's. Definitely look into @crystal1313 suggestion.

If you want to stay on property you could try Disneyland Hotel. About a 15 minute walk or you could take the monorail. Grand Californian costs more but is a 5 minute walk to Disneyland but has an entrance right into DCA.

Across the street from the Harbor Blvd Disneyland entrance, about a 2 minute walk:
Park Vue
Best Western Park Place Inn
Best Western Anaheim Plus Inn

SNA and LGB are preferable airpots for most but for half the cost and non stop LAX is a no brainer then just catch an Uber to DL. Easy peasy.

Agreed. Uber/Lyft from LAX is easy. I would try to pick a time of day that avoids rush hour if possible. Last year uber from LAX was $100 (plus tip).

If I fly out of Dallas I can get non-stop to LAX. I have had so many flight delays in the past that I too prefer non-stop. This airport is 100 extra miles to drive than OKC, and $89 one way verses $200 in OKC. Expenses would be added from Dallas as far as getting to Dallas and higher cost for transportation.

I'd fly into Long Beach, if you decide LAX Uber Black and Lyft Black can pick you up at the terminal regular you have to get to the lot. Last time I flew to LAX my ride cost around 125 and took close to an 1:15.

This is really an easy choice. I regularly write that for most people, LAX will offer the lowest price and best schedule - and that appears to be the case here.

Most of day, a ride share will run $60 - $80 each way from LAX to DLR. Right now, ride shares pick up at a designated lot adjacent to T1. AA uses T4/T5 - you can either take the free shuttle or walk (10 to 15 minutes) to the lot. If you order your ride share as soon as you pick up your baggage, the app will track you to the pick up lot and order your ride accordingly. This means it’ll be waiting for you when you get there (or a short wait). On your return to LAX, the ride share can drop you off directly at the terminal.

There is absolutely no reason to avoid LAX. This forum has a reputation for being soft. LGB, ONT and SNA all have very limited flight option. ONT is in a separate Census area and you will often struggle to find a ride share since many don’t want to trek to OC (difficult to find a fare going back to the ONT area).

I live in OC and usually fly out of LAX, traveling past SNA and LGB. Last year I had two blown connections from SNA, costing me a significant amount of cash. Always chase the nonstops!

In Dallas, would you be flying out of Love Field? I am not super experienced with those airports, but I think DAL is easier than DFW (which is comparable to LAX). SWA offers nonstop flights from DAL to LGB. You might want to price out those flights.

I think they are flying SWA which is terminal 1 and walking distance to the ride share lot.

I read that you can also take a train, maybe a bus to the train. How does that work and how safe is that option?

Yes, Love field. Its more of a drive to the airport but non stop.

Train is too much of a hassle to be honest. You’d have to take the FlyAway bus to Union Station, then the train to either Fullerton or Anaheim station, then a city bus (or ride share) to DLR.

Alternatively, you could take a (free) bus to the light rail station, then the light rail to Norwalk, then a city bus to the Norwalk train station, then a train to Fullerton/ Anaheim and bus to DLR. You can do this on a Metrolink ticket that costs less than $10 — when I was in my teens and twenties, I did stuff like this all the time. Obviously my time is more valuable today :).
