I need to get a pair of dress pants for my 14 y/o son for his upcoming 8th grade dance/graduation. They have to be dress pants and not khaki/twill type material.

He is 5'11" which isn't overly tall for a guy, but he takes about a 29/30 inch waist and at least a 34 inch inseam. There's my problem. If I can find a 30 inch waist, I cannot get the longer inseam.

I've been to the usual places like Kohl's and I've looked online at JC Penney because I know that they will carry odd sizes online, but no luck.

I haven't tried any men's stores yet as I didn't want to pay a ton of money for pants that will be worn two times.

Anyone know where I should or look online?

Try Eddie Bauer, LL Bean or Lands' End.

We prefer Eddie Bauer. Our son is 6'7" and wears a 36 x 36 at age 17!!
:)

Land's End custom hems all their dress trousers, and they have a wide selection.

If J.C. Penney's doesn't have them in the store, they will order them for you. Go to the Men's Dept. where the suits are and talk to the person there.

We're in the same boat you are except DS is bigger than your son. We had to buy a suit for Class Night (8th grade dance). They used to only require dress pants, shirt and tie but changed it this year. DS is almost 6 ft. 2 but a bit larger than your son. We ended up with a 44 long suit with 38 x 33 trousers.

I hope you find what you need.:goodvibes

My son is 14 and wears a 30 waist 32 hem and I just bought him a pair at Kohls. He is 5'10" and the pants fit him great. I didn't see a 30 x 34 online at Kohl's. I wonder if you could buy the 30x32 and let these down for him. You know run him by the dry cleaners and have them let the hem down on the pants for him. The pair I bought my son happened to be on the clearance rack for like $15.00. I didn't want to spend a lot as he will only wear these once.

If he like my son, next month he will need a new size!

Ugh, I was going to suggest JC Penney, but I see you have tried them already. That's where I get dh's pants -he's a 32x34. Of course whenever you ask for help at the store, they pull out 34x32's.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your help!

Land's End definitely had what I needed but they would have to be custom hemmed and when I called the order place they could not guarantee that I would have them by Friday unless I paid some super premium on shipping. The pants were already close to $50 and I just didn't want to pay more. I know, I'm cheap, but he will get two wearings out of these and he will wear them about 3 hours each time.

I've been to Kohl's several times and, in my store, I just could not find one waist size in a 30 with a 32 inseam. I know they have them but they just seem to be sold out. Again, ordering them and then having them altered, I just don't have the time left. I tried buying a sports coat from them 2 weeks ago and his arms stuck out of all the jackets. Thank God a woman at school lent me one of her son's sport coats that he could use. Somehow, a few years ago, she had managed to find one that had long arms!

Dispor--thanks for that Penney's link. Somehow I missed those when I was on my search through their site. I probably was looking for something more pleated but I think they will be JUST fine!

Make sure you are clicking on the second link as well!! They look like the same link, but they aren't. The second link is a pair of PLEATED pants. I'm even ordering some for my dh - so thanks for asking your question.

I didn't find them until I searched by brand... I don't know why that is.

Thanks! My goodness, you can't beat that price can you?

Well, darn, I went to order them and both were "unavailable" in the size I needed.

My son is 5'11" and a 30" waist. Same problem. He needed clothes for a funeral so believe it or not, we headed for the local thrift shop and found a pair with the tag still on them for $3. We also got shoes-unworn size 13, a Lands End dress shirt, a new belt and a nice sports jacket for a total of .....wait for it.....$26. Bonus-while I was there I bought a gorgeous cut glass vase and a small drop leaf table with four chairs(all solid hard wood) for my summer porch, all for another $38. I don't normally comb the thrift shops but I gotta say this trip was well worth it!
Good luck. My son wears shorts most of the time because it's nearly impossible to find pants. We had some luck in the recently closed Steve and Barry stores. Sadly, they're gone.
