Where can we stay with our dog?

We use personal friends, or Grandma for our dogs, but we have used a pet sitting service. They come in as many times each day as you wish... some will even spend the night. We have a service here that employs only senior citizens! What a great idea! I have never heard of any bad stories where a pet nanny is used. Pet is happier because they are at home, too.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone. Like I said, I know kennels are not all bad places but I think the real problem here is that DH and I would miss Lola too much! We are such saps!

After having to recently put down our 15-year-old beagle (sniff!) we now have just two dogs. We used to travel with them frequently to my parents' vacation home; however, we find that it's just too stressful on all of us to even think of taking them to WDW or any similar vacation. They aren't great at the kennel, so we now leave them at home and have them looked after by a combination of a very helpful neighbor, another neighbor's teenage sons (who know our dogs and work pretty cheap), and a professional dogsitter (who is not so cheap but very professional and great with the pups).

The dogs miss us, but they are more comfortable in their home environment than they would be on the road with us, and we know they are well taken care of.

BTW, there is a website somewhere (sorry I don't have the URL) which lists pet-friendly accomodations all over the country.

Check out www.petsit.com if you decide to look for a pet sitter. You can enter you zip code and sitters in your area will come up. This is Pet Sitters International's site.

I would LOVE to be able to bring our dogs w/ us to WDW! They are our children. :) Last time we went to WDW, my mom watched the dogs, so I know that they were in good hands, but I would still rather have them with us. :) I think Disney would be surprised how many people would actually want to bring their pets w/ them to WDW!!

Hope they never allow dogs on property. If they do I would never be able to go again since I am highly allergic to dog dander and always end up in the ER for shortness of breath. It's really scary! I can't even go to my sister's house because she has a black lab for a couple yrs now. It's that bad. And believe me I would love to have a dog. Tried it once ended up in ER numerous times and had to get rid of her. :(

KaterBelle, Great Idea. I have two dogs that are only 13 and 17 lbs each and I can't even think about leaving them in a kennel. I pay a pet/housesitter to come and stay for the time we are away. I got the other dog to stay with the first dog because when we go away I always feel bad that they have to stay home.
